I <3 VW Beetles
I don't admire them but I thought that particular user coming up with that sneaky name was pretty sly and cunning. Though I don't agree with what they do, scammers can sometimes be pretty smart, though the people they con often tend not to be.
The trick is to double and triple check if you have the right person, it can be so easy to misform a name it ain't even funny anymore.

I've been waiting for my banner ads to go live for over a week now.  Sent my payment on 16th June to this address 1Myf1Scb8xGPSa7YYciMCANpQkjdgGWNh3.

Apart from OP's payment, the above address received another 8.55 BTC on Jun 17.
It seems there is another victim. Sad

what can i do? anything??

I am sorry for your loss, but I believe there is pretty much nothing you can do to get the money back.
You may report to the authority, but it is very unlikely it will end well.
The scammer is possibly behind proxies and tor, and the bitcoin will probably go through a mixer...

Hate to say it and it sucks that you got scammed, but 'theymo5'? Seriously? theyrnos has been my favourite imposter so far. I bet he could've cleaned quite a few people out as he seemingly attempted to do.

Favorite impostor? You admire these people do you?!?

No there is nothing you can do.  You sent irreversible currency to a con-man.  It is gone.  A hard lesson to learn but always make sure you are sending money to the right person.

so fucking gutted.  3.4 BTC is lot and its a new business start up as well.  I obviously thought it was the right person.  I'm surprised someone was able to register a username that similar and contact bidders of the advertising auction unnoticed - This shit needs policing

I don't think any amount of policing is going to help some people...

Newbie, just registered, numbers in place of letters, deals via pm, 0 posts. Plenty of red flags there.

I have never bought advertising from this forum before.  I have no idea how i should be contacted for payment. No details on the forum about how the payment procedure will work either.  Maybe the red flag is they need to make things more clear for inexperienced users bidding on advertising.  Don't get me wrong i am not blaming this forum.  It was my mistake.  I am suggesting that more can be done to help prevent situations like this

You did not notice that the account had like no posts?

No i didn't.  I guess with so much going on with the new business launch i overlooked it.  Maybe if they made the auction bids private it could prevent anything like this from happening again.  My BTC is gone, i now don't want this happening again to anyone else.  I have learnt my lesson from this mistake but maybe the forum could improve the procedure of acquiring advertising to prevent other people from getting burnt

Hi,

I've been waiting for my banner ads to go live for over a week now.  Sent my payment on 16th June to this address 1Myf1Scb8xGPSa7YYciMCANpQkjdgGWNh3.  I've been replying and replying asking when my ads will go live with no response, then it just hit me.

The user requesting payment from me is theymo5 NOT theymos. I sent 3.4 BTC for these adverts which is a lot of money, i can not afford to lose.  I received these emails in this order after bidding on this thread - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/advertise-on-this-forum-round-123-644115.

--------------------------

Thank you for your recent bid to advertise on our forum.

No probs,

We are trying to give the new guys a fighting a chance by giving them some advertising space as a cheaper rate.  Currently we have a few big players that win every time by out bidding all the smaller players.

This will help promote bitcoin as a whole in the long run which is something the forum admin strongly believe in.

payment received thanks.

Historic info on banner impressions here -

Advertisments are well worth the investment, we get the same guys bidding every month.

The auction will close this week with banners going live Monday.
