This probably wasn't a big problem decades ago else the US would have already completely fenced it off then. I understand why people are arguing about the expense though. Just that border with Mexico is longer than some European countries' land borders with each other.

Has anyone made an estimate of what these immigrants will cost the US during their entire lifetimes? The social cost would also probably be high though not as high as Europeans are going to pay. Heard one town in Colorado made it NOT illegal to defecate in public coz these people are pooping everywhere and they'll run out of prison space if they catch them all.

I'd guess less than 10% had a serious wall, 90% nothing or maybe a simple wire fence or a 100 year old ranch fence. Some of those areas are very rough.

One town I've been to, there's this nice 25' high fence made of 6x6 rectangular steel tubing on the border. But you look off in the distance, maybe a mile down you can see where it ends....

Most of the border is totally unprotected by barriers. For the most part they rely on natural features such as mountains and rivers. If you are taking into account all the public resources they use once they get here there is no doubt a wall would pay for itself very fast.

I'm not familiar with the border part of the US but since I've seen border checkpoints and fences in movies and such, I'm assuming that there is some preexisting "wall". How much of the border with Mexico have at least a fence?

I wonder if the expense of building a wall would outweigh the expense of having process all those migrants. I've seen news about those coming from Central American countries like Guatemala. These "migrant caravans" broke through Mexico's border fence, were offered jobs and such but still proceeded towards the US.

And when you look at the raw data you see that there is no category, no label, nothing refering as "illegals" or "nationality" or anything similar.

SO you give a link to an article claiming a Harvard study proves tons of things about how illegal vote. Their source link is broken. Then I go to the CCES site and try to find such study by myself and find nothing but a raw data tab. Then I open this raw data tab and don't see anything related to something like what your article claims to be...

In the US at least they are making a big fuss about it because the Democrats just lost control and refuse to acknowledge it and have resorted to kicking and stomping their feet for the last 2 years in order to prevent any appearance of success manifesting from Trump. I know that building that wall is expensive but what I don't understand is why Americans and Westerners are making a big fuss about it. Why would Trump call for a national emergency for any of those things?  You can't have a national emergency against the constitution.  The 9th circus can only delay the inevitable...  With six more years of Trump the 9th circus might start looking like a real court again.

Trump is working for the best interest of Americans, and having a POTUS who does was long overdue. Fixing border security is getting to emergency status.  If problems such as drugs, human trafficking, and thousands of illegal immigrants don't qualify as an emergency, I don't know what does.  To put things into perspective: Democrats don't want to spend more $1.375 billion to protect Americans, but they'll spend tens of billions per year on foreign aid or some random boondoggle.  California's governor has over $3 billion of federal grant money that he would rather squander on a train he knows won't get finished, than give it back to help pay for the wall.

I'm perfectly fine with having the Supreme Court decide the issue of whether the border is or is not a national crisis. There seems to be a difference of opinion on the issue, doesn't there?

Ah I see, since he is not fulfilling them all this promise being fulfilled is meaningless is it? Most people who support the wall don't care. Frankly I think he will figure that out later after everyone has forgot about it and assumes it has been abandoned. There are lots of ways to get it done, but they would all be impediments to getting the wall built which is the first priority.

Trump aint getting any of that money, Truman tried this horse shit already and it didn't work, the courts (even the conservative SCOTUS) will not allow a precedent like this to move forward.  Trump already knows he is getting sued and will lose in the 9th circuit and the appellate court and is praying that the SCOTUS will side with him.  This is going to be held up for a lot longer than Trump will be in office and the court cases will get dropped as soon as Trump is out of office.

Trump lost on his wall and he lied about Mexico paying for it.  So either the courts knock this shit out or it sets precedent for future dem POTUS' and in all honestly a few lousy billion for a precedent that will open up a world of awesome sauce is probably worth it in the long run.

I think we all knew this was going to come sooner or later, Trump has officially declared a national emergency regarding what he calls "an invasion of the country" I don't know if everyone this section will agree with this, though I personally do think that a border wall (and more funding for border security) is necessary to combat the problems we have at our border.

Trump is going to be able to divert around $6.7B from other appropriated areas to use towards his wall + the money that was secured in the last spending bill, which I'm pretty sure is around 1.4b
