I think Americans like Trump because he´s a plain talker in their old tradition. Many of them have become unbearably politically correct but the old still lives. Plain comes from Latin planum meaning level ground. Everything is in view. It´s a level playing field.
Right now Trump seems to be the only GOP primary candidate, whose views resonate with the grass-root level party activists and sympathizers. Other establishment candidates such as Marco Rubio and Jeb Bush have changed their policies to such an extent that they can no longer be called as "Republicans". They are more like RINOs than real republicans.
