I'm already thinking of ways around this problem of direct Bitcoin currency transfers because it will definitely be a problem eventually, have you thought about purchasing gold/silver off the internet and then turning it into cash that way? I think that's going to be what everyone will start doing now to avoid all the regulation and bans that seem to be inevitable with something like Bitcoin. To me it seems there are plenty of rules when it comes to exchanging Bitcoin for other currencies but not when it comes to trading directly for them with goods.

So you could trade the Bitcoins for gold/silver at whatever address you're staying, take the gold/silver with you and sell it off whenever you need to get cash in the country that you're staying and of course because gold/silver is universally accepted people will always pay you money for it, when it comes to Bitcoin that isn't the case yet but that's what I'm thinking about these days to get round all these problems. Oh and of course if you're wanting to order off the internet with just Bitcoins there's always Bitspend too.

I quit my job year and half ago for the sake of career break, been traveling from coast to coast and a bit oversea, trying to live cheap, 20$ a day or so. I bought some coins on the early days, now I have roughly a grand of coins, but, my cash is almost depleted. I'm spoiled, no way could I turn back to 9-5 work, still I have to eat, I'm going to need to survive on my precious coins.

But oh sh*t, with the recent gox-dwolla affair, I don't see an efficient way to cash some USD out, in fact, it would be better if I can spend bitcoin directly. All I need are just food and gas, and a bit of online shopping. I've looked into the Gyft gift card thing another day, the acceptance is still limited.

Funny that a friend having a food stamp ebt card and his obama phone is able to live easier than a pretty good shape bitcoiner.

Hello Downying,

How is living life with just Bitcoin? I have attended the Bitcoin Conference 2013 in San Jose, and it appears that there are more and more venues that are accepting Bitcoins. There were multiple software developers, promoting their easy living with BTC product. With recent development, have you been able to see any improvements in the area?

It would be interesting if you could log down what is required for you to live simply with just BTC, without ever having to convert to dollars. This would transform the virtual currency platform from being an online based currency, to one that interacts with those of cash and credit cards.

I am very interested in your thoughts, as I am researching for new ways to develop the Bitcoin Community.

Short of cashing out entirely, the easiest way to do this is with services like BitSpend.  I haven't used it before, but I heard good things about their services.
