For step 3 you can use MacMiner's GUI instead of using the terminal. It doesn't matter which.

I picked up an eruptor and got it mining here in about five minutes. Installing the drivers will require a reboot.

Hahaha COM ports. That's a blast from the past. But yeah. I don't have any eruptors, I've just used MacMiner with FPGA units. The eruptors might be entirely different. I wouldn't worry about having extra stuff in /dev/ tho. And you won't have to hobble your nice Mac by making it run Windows. (Yeah, I have Parallels on my Macs too. Never much saw the use for Boot Camp tho.)

funny, but with bootcamp he can boot into windows or linux. so there is no need to do that

I'm not sure about OSX, but under windows you should NOT install the FTDI driver if you only use Block Erupters, as the Erupters use the SILabs chips and the FTDI driver allocates COM ports that don't exist and creates a mess that is hard to clean up. You need the FTDI driver for the BFL units, Erupters need the SILabs driver.

I suggest you use MacMiner:

SirMintALot also suggested looking at that thread. MacMiner comes with precompiled Mac binaries for cgminer, cpuminer, and bfgminer; possibly more.

From the View menu, choose "Show FPGA/ASIC Miner." And push the question mark button for more info. Basically, you'll want to download serial USB drivers from http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm and then look for the name of your device after you've plugged it in by typing 'ls /dev/cu.*' in the terminal.

When you get that info, push the "miner settings" button and add something like '-S /dev/cu.usbserial-FTWILFLM' (except it will be /dev/cu.usbserial-WHATEVERYOURDEVICEIS' into the 'manual flags' field.

Push the "Pool Settings" and put any SHA-256 coin pool under BTC or any scrypt coin pool under LTC—it's not just for BTC or LTC, you can use any pools in those fields. You of course want the BTC fields for address, miner, and password for PPC, since PPC is SHA-256. You don't need to put in BTC or LTC addresses in the fields above—those are just for p2pool pools.

First thing you probably need to do is installing the SILabs USBtoUART driver:

then have a look at the Macminer thread, the Block Erupter should work with the BFGMiner of Macminer:

If its ok for you to use bootcamp to boot into windows then download BFGminer and create a .bat file in the same directory:
replace MyUser with your account name and MyPassword with your password. If you want to mine with your graphicscard as well then replace the -G with -I d

You can also create a native BFGminer for OSX, but for that you need to install XCode and Homebrew. then start bfgminer with the options above from a shell.

Sadly I can't provide you a native BFGMiner, as I only have an old iMac G5.

Hi,
I have spent so many hours trying to find a mining program for mac that works that I honestly just want to throw my computer at the wall. NOTHING WORKS. I don't understand any of these commands or anything, and I've tried following exactly what people have wrriten but all I get is errors or "illegal" or that stuff. Here is my the info about computer and situation:

I own a Macbook that I bought last June/July.
I have a ASIC USB Erupter that mines 330mg/s.
I have windows downloaded using Parallels and Boot Camp.
I wish to mine PPcoin using my Macbook and the Erupter.
I wish to mine PPcoin using this pool: http://ppc.fixx.ru/.

I am open to using any mining software, and if possible I am fine with using my windows to run it (I don't know if I can do that though since this is a mac). I do not know how to program or really anything about coding or commands. I only know what I've read from all these mining so called "newb threads" (they don't help...).

I know I will not be earning much but honestly at this point I'm just so fed up after spending so much time and having gotten nowhere which is why I'm offering a small reward (.05 BTC or 2 LTC) for your help. Please help if you can.

Note: As I have bets pending in sports, the BTC reward will be paid within 24 hours, the LTC reward can be paid immediately.
