Why not use Facebook? Free and lots of people. Then again I don't know how populated meetup is in comparison.

A better idea would be to keep a 1$ fees for the people who show up at the meetups. Thats what we used to do at my place . By keeping a small fees also let us take care of costs and some food and drinks extra. e

You should use meetup.com - There's a group in Houston that meets every week. It would be an easy way to organize your contacts and let them keep in touch with each other... Just a suggestion....
