I think this is very problematic yet because after facebook, twitter is most common site at present time where people share their personal and important things. So this site hacking and make advertisement for cryptocurrency means there would be a negative impact for twitter and also for cryptocurrency. I think in this pandemic situation many people involve into cryptocurrency so that they trying to raise market up to gain profit by hacking.

thanks.

Lately I am seeing different facebook accounts as well as twitter accounts that are hacked. Due to this pandemic, most of our time were spent inside our house or in our room with out gadgets and PC. Hackers have seen a lot of opportunity to hack accounts since everybody is online so they can phish some information etc. It is alarming and does not doing anything good.
A lot of other social networks are under attack and I think this is not the first time that Twitter has been hacked because there have been so many attacks in the past. This may not be harmful to others, but for those involved in the crypto market, this attack makes us feel more nervous. If it still happens, there will certainly be someone losing money and new investors will often be victims.

I just saw MrBeast's twitter getting hacked too.

Is this thing still going on? I have read that twitter had already took those tweet down. And they already prevent verified accounts from posting temporarily, right?

He is known to be a huge Youtuber and known for donating huge amount to streamers and do other stuffs that usually tell people how much money he has. People would really fall for this especially those people that know MrBeasts since its his nature to be that kind of guy. Twitter should really improve their security and I hope that no one fell for this.

Yeah, this guy is a bit different among the list of those who get hacked, he's more of a generous guy. However, I don't think Mr.Beast would ask you to donate first before giving you back. Besides, what's the sudden interest to crypto though? He's mostly known for giving away cash.

I believe it's over now. I just checked Bill Gates' twitter and I don't see that tweet anymore.
I guess it was resolved now.
To think that twitter accounts of even those who protected it with the highest security are still vulnerable to such hacks makes me think twice as well if I would still feel safe on what I tweet or post or even write to other sites.

I believe that this case are now settled?and the twitter accounts are safe ?

https://threatpost.com/the-great-twitter-hack-what-we-know-what-we-dont/157538/

Updated last july 18 and none has followed.

I think that the banned accounts are available now again?
This is a big deal for the twitter community which even the high profile users have been hacked
hacker showed the world how they can break the security  of twitter and how vulnerable our accounts in this social media site.
Quote
. With this, the security in twitter network is questionable and need to be improved. It good to know that the hacker didn’t do something very bad but in crypto currency community are being affected and I’m sure the perception over crypto will be different again. Now people might think BTc and other crypto currency are for bad purpose. They might also think that this completely illegal and used only hackers.
They are surely improving now because their whole company is at stake here, imagine that the prominent name in the world accounts had been hacked that easy?

I think it is already over, I am not certain if twitter fixed the issue or not but they certainly stopped it for now, of course it may take some time before they can fix it or not (or maybe it is fixed already) but at least I am aware of the fact that nothing like that has happened since that day, they have stopped for the past few days I think.

However what has happened has already happened, dude has already stole as much money as he can, obviously an idiotic method to get money but he did grabbed hundreds of thousands of dollars last I checked, maybe even millions now that I haven't checked in a while. This is why I think even if it is closed, the amount of money that was stolen should be taken from twitter and given to people who paid that money because twitter did played a role in this with their lack of security.
Twitter should compensate for those who are lost because this security bug is very serious and can affect a lot of people so generally Twitter needs to do something to make people feel more secure. When this news comes out, people's confidence in Twitter is declining and if this continues in the future, this social network will no longer attract any users.

I think the ones who will become victims of hackers are usually typical of people who want instant profit, so when they see tweets
in famous people's accounts just believing just like that. Not careful about making a decision, but I'm quite surprised that many
accounts have been hacked. In my opinion, there are people in the Twitter company involved. But it must be recognized hackers
do this when economic conditions all over the world are weak, so many people need money. This may be a factor that reduces one's
vigilance. And make it this event is a lesson for all of us, we must always be careful of attractive offers that must give money first.

Honestly twitter cant do that. Since it's already giant platform with almost every celebrity, stars, politicians and government is on the twitter they need to keep them alive.

Crypto is just needle in hay-stack and i dont think they will shut the whole thing down for that matter.

Pretty sure that they might have started backing up those genuine accounts and started locking up the back doors for hackers. Surely their experts now has to work around the clock to find those bastards.
Well, you got a point but if the said breach do able to reach some severe extent then they can possibly do on what i had mentioned earlier. Its not a long time temporary downtime since we know that this is a business

and you are right this is just a needle on hay-stack but the impression on where this situation can give wont really be a joke specially it do talks about security matters.

If they wont solve it out then problems would persist and would lead to further breaches but somehow its just dumb to think that they do just let these things happen easily.

Lol this Twitter scam thing is very funny, especially what they tweeted with this Bill Gates account Shocked it says everyone has been asking to give back lol. Who the h*ck is asking you to give back. Whenever I see these things I just start laughing, like this is one of dumbest approaches that can be used these days, but still people fell for it and sent them money to their address.

Those scammer would have even got more money from some Coinbase users, if not that the Coinbase team interfered and stopped people from sending more money to them, over $200,000. That must be really appreciable act from coinbase team. I am not sure how they managed to identify which are heading toward those scammers' addy; I assume they might have noticed after sudden surge in number of outgoing transaction with considerable amount.

Sadly, people are using bitcoin again in their illegal activities to scam and steal other people's money, that is why it is hard for us to convince our friends and relatives to invest in bitcoin. These hackers are ruining bitcoin's reputation, so I think these people who have been victimized by these scams and hacked twitter accounts have already decided not to buy bitcoin ever again.
But bitcoin is not the problem here, you can tell your families and friends that there are more positive side on putting your money on it. Might not get you rich very quickly, but it can help you out of our poverty and we could have more purchasing power.

And the hack twitter incident doesn't really affect bitcoin as other might have put it negatively. Bitcoin will survived this and it has proven that it is very resilient to this kind of bad news.

I think it's more on the reputation of the platform they are using to hack.

The fact that they hack the accounts that are crypto related to gain bitcoin, that means bitcoin are already popular that they think many people will buy their scam. Hacking isn't new in crypto space, so I'm pretty sure an educated investor are fully aware of the risk and they know how to determine a scam.

You cant say that all of their followers are crypto awared but curiosity would surely mold up to those who dont know about Bitcoin and when they do able to read up such offer then the first thing in mind will surely on how they do attain such offer even if it do talks about totally new thing to them  then they will surely find a  way to join because it do talks about easy money or shall we say doubling your money.People are always weak
when it comes to greediness.Hackers do knows that this is why they do utilize that weakness to fool people. This isnt something new on this market which doesnt only happen on crypto but these things are pretty
common on traditional fiat system too.

That's a lot of hacked top Twitter users, of course, this is a lot of worry because he is very influential on changes in crypto, but all of that is not long and like it is now back to normal, and I do not know if the hackers have gotten a lot of bitcoins, they tweet they offer a ponzi scheme that it didn't make sense because what the beginners were afraid of was trapped in this hacking device.

And as Twitter security has now been increased again and hopefully this event will not happen again in the future, many YouTube accounts have also been hacked to make money for the hackers.

I don't even understand how to perceive everything that is happening today in the social network twitter, since the problems are getting worse and I would like to know how they will be solved. Just a few days ago, I received a message by email, in which there was a notification that they tried to hack my account using a certain site. As far as I understand, I have had this situation with many Twitter users. I immediately changed my password and enabled 2Fa authentication with SMS confirmation to my phone number. Hope this helps.

My question is, do you think about what happened on this, does it affect Bitcoin? Negative or positive?
this condition will not affect the price of Bitcoin...
changes in the price of Bitcoin are not affected by news or events like this, Bitcoin and Ethereum are not the same as stocks, price changes do not occur due to outside speculation.

My question is, do you think about what happened on this, does it affect Bitcoin? Negative or positive?
It is obviously negative, those hackers are really destroying the reputation of cryptocurrency towards its security in the market.
Because I saw some other famous in twitter like in financial field that talks about Bitcoin after that twitter acounts hacked on twitter, they have some random tweets about Bitcoin, like "What is Bitcoin?" It's like they started to become curious what is Bitcoin, or they are just being a sarcastic on their tweets.

Probably the latter, if they are really in the financial field, then no doubt that they have heard bitcoin already. It is being covered now by most mainstream media, close to saying that it is closely getting into the traditional market system.

We have seen the effects already, there is none, the market is slowly making a break out run after the twitter hack so maybe we can rest the case that we are not affected negatively.

Twitter said this twitter account hack was because one of their employees got socially engineered by a hacker. That's why the hacker was able to compromise these huge accounts.
For me, the real problem here is the Twitter itself. A lot of people got pissed off of what happened.

My question is, do you think about what happened on this, does it affect Bitcoin? Negative or positive?
The mindset of humans are full of greediness, this was the problem of those that fell into this traps. But, the effect of this happened are going to be positive on the long run, because Bitcoin was just been used on Twitter by those hackers. Twitter are to be blame for this and maybe the world might look into an alternative to Twitter accounts, like decentralize social media. We shouldn't be greedy and also, we should always verify our information before act.
This could not bring positive result in the long run since big personalities are involved and they could think that bitcoin is bad due to their hacking experience and they can easily manipulate and tell their fans about how bad their experience in bitcoin. Though it will be depending on the person/community on how they can accept the situtation.

People are learning already, these hacking events are not only it happens today, but it also happens before and pretty obvious why hackers will do this is to scam innocent individuals. I'd never claim myself as a victim of this but not wondering those people who think instant millionaire will actually be fooled with this. Hackers targeting big names because they could help them to manipulate innocent people to fully believe and follow what they said.

I hope the twitter's immediate action will resolve the future hacking sentiments and this could be stopped.

I don't know who would fall on doubling scheme from here? It's one of the oldest scams in crypto-currencies, and its something
I learned from the start. Who would believe in this scheme, send to get double?! It sounds like a scam.
The main problem here is the hack of the Twitter. Is it safe to use traditional social networks? Can there be some socials network
with higher security, but in same time transparent and without censorship? Maybe there is free space for some crypto-social
network to grant all that to its users?
I think the new entrants to this market will be victims of this plan and really don't have the knowledge to realize it. Most of these Twitter accounts are related to the financial sector and will undoubtedly be the most serious security hole this year. Currently, there are no apologies from Twitter and this will greatly affect the reputation of Twitter in the future so you need to be wiser to avoid these cases.

I feel that they are the target of this hacking scheme since they are inexperienced  and easily believe in  what they see online that will give them easy money  .so I will say more of the noobs will fall for this easy doubling scheme . unless they also experience the same scheme before they saw the tweets .they have an idea  already in that scheme  so they will not believe in it easily.
If this happens on other social networks, there will certainly be many more victims. You really should not trust anyone in this market and should stay away when you see those articles. I was surprised by this but it was too late for them to correct the mistake because the money of those victims would certainly never be able to get it back. I think Twitter should keep customer information more secure because if it continues, this company will surely be alienated.

My question is, do you think about what happened on this, does it affect Bitcoin? Negative or positive?

It is obviously negative, those hackers are really destroying the reputation of cryptocurrency towards its security in the market. Especially that they use high profiles and one of the most used social media platform in the internet. Maybe, a lot of victims will trust and fall on their trap as they are using almost real offer towards cryptocurrency. Probably, most of the victims are newbies and unaware of these happenings in cryptocurrency community. But for a normal crypto users, he will seek information first and look for an evidence and proof that these high profiles are really doing that offers and make their money become doubled. Always find the truth if the twitter post is legit and if it is really posted by the real user's account. Don't fall for those scams.
It will definitely have a negative impact on bitcoin and cryptocurrency because it ruins bitcoin's reputation that they have hacked famous people to steal and scam other people. Surely, many people have been victimized by this scam because not all of them are aware of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, so it is easy for scammers to tricked this kind of person. Unlike most crypto users who already have experience in this kind of schemes, it is very hard for them to tricked them because they will do research and check their accounts if it is hacked.

Always be vigilant about what we saw on the internet. I know it's really tempting for others to risks some money if a certain big people are involved in that kind of investment but in any kinds of investment, putting time in DYOR is really necessary.

That's really shame for giant company like Twitter. Twitter is like haven for crypto currency users. From past few years we continuously seeing this kinda pathetic news. If this is going to happening every moment then people won't believe twitter anymore. They should shut down their platform and they should find out their lick and working on it. And people should stay away from any kinda Twitter giveaway for a while.
Currently, Twitter is facing a lot of security issues and this will certainly make the company's reputation go down. A lot of people have lost money because of this security hole and Twitter should compensate for the loss of those who lost. I personally have never lost money from these programs and definitely shouldn't trust anyone at Twitter because there may be more attacks going on in the future.

This is basic no one has received Bitcoin from giveaways where the instructions is for you to send them Bitcoin, if they are asking for your private keys or your coins so you can receive yours then it's outright a scam because it has been proven scam so many times in the past, but some people are stubborn.

Damn , i was quit from twitter since along time ago after bounty sucks already, and now they have a lot security problem, and for sure , i followed that people you mentioned.
After i saw their tweet, then what appeared first in my mind is why big people like them do something like that, i mean if they really want to create some donation, they just do it, no need via crypto, and also mostly already joined to some foundation, even bill gates have own foundation, and you just believe that giveaway ?

Always becarefull and smart is more than enough to secure ur life on crypto sphere.

I think this situation will not only happen in twitter but to other social media apps. So for those soc med vultures, they should be very alert with potential scams along the way. Don't fall on these too-good-to-be-true offers. Because almost all of them have drawbacks, like you need to send them some X worth of bitcoin before you can get your supposed "reward". If you will not exert effort in getting that prize, expect that there are loopholes in that giveaway. Remember, there's no free things nowadays.

Its not having lots of issues but they do only have that one but a big or major one which do really compromises of those popular person, business accounts which can really deceive out people if it
would really be used on other way around.

People should really have this kind of mindset on why the hell they would offer on giving a donation if those people are financially capable and does even have their own charity and with that

There's no such thing as a perfect platform and I want you to know that even those huge platforms also make mistakes.

I really don't understand is that, the security is the most important thing in a social media platform and still they don't value it very much.

But I know that in this circumstances, they learned a lot from this because this scams will costs a lot of money. Even those high profiles can also be scammed, criminals are really wise in using other people's identity to easily believe on what they are offering in a certain tweets. They don't need to shutdown their platform because their platform can make us updated on what is happening in our surroundings. They should just fix their problems immediately before this scammers can victimized more people.

Bro hacks happen everytime even the most unimaginable systems can be hacked even if they are deemed secured during that time. Yeah for sure they can say that their system is impenetrable during that time but the thing is hackers will always find a way on how they can hack it by finding new methods on penetrating it. They can always counter and counter everything as the system is already there and the only thing they can do. So I don't think Twitter is really not valuing their security but it just happened that they were targeted by a coordinated attack and that's how tough it is on handling these types of services.

More on your own diligence before participating to any giveaways, any it's not a giveaway but an scam attacks from those hackers.
Twitter needs to adjust with a much higher level of defense.

If they continue being like this, trust from the people who are using this platform will be compromised. it's a matter on how you
deal with your service, it's a must to achieved the expectations.

The crypto world knew about this type of scam a long time ago, we have seen it plenty of times but the regular world may have not seen it before, so it is actually quite good that it happened so that we would see whats going on and everyone else would learn about it and will never fall for it neither. I think twitter will get some sort of punishment for it, if not something severe in result, at least something very serious in the consequences of it.

How could any government trust twitter after this? They will probably make a lot more defensive systems against twitter like maybe data breaches should be in government control to see whats going on and all that. Right now, Twitter moves in the sense that it is freedom of speech and doesn't share any data, but that has to stop somewhere at some point.

Twitter said this twitter account hack was because one of their employees got socially engineered by a hacker. That's why the hacker was able to compromise these huge accounts.
For me, the real problem here is the Twitter itself. A lot of people got pissed off of what happened.

Twitter should be accountable with this issue because their platform was easily got hacked by those criminals.

It is not that easy to fix an issue that fast but they should work on it so that people who uses their platform will become comfortable next time that they access their accounts. Also, they should improve their security and safety so that they can't easily make those high profiles as a tool to persuade people to send btc to them.

My question is, do you think about what happened on this, does it affect Bitcoin? Negative or positive?

I think this will give a negative impact towards bitcoin's reputation.

This scams should be stopped immediately as it will cost a huge amount of money if people fall in to a scam like this. Especially that they use big names of people or high profiles to lure victims.

This is a very serious security hole and they need to have a policy of compensation for the damage they have caused. I think, there will be many more similar attacks in the future and this is a problem that they need to quickly solve.

As I know, people's confidence in this social network has dropped to a dizzying rate and if not improved, they should close the company as soon as possible.

Twitter has published a blog post where they explained how this attack could have happened:

Quote
The attackers successfully manipulated a small number of employees and used their credentials to access Twitter’s internal systems, including getting through our two-factor protections. As of now, we know that they accessed tools only available to our internal support teams to target 130 Twitter accounts. For 45 of those accounts, the attackers were able to initiate a password reset, login to the account, and send Tweets.

Source

This is of course very violent and probably means years of preparation on the part of the hackers in order to gradually gain the trust of the affected persons.

One should not even imagine what the hackers could have done with to the price of BTC. Imagine if they had simultaneously posted on the accounts of several different exchanges that BTC would be delisted within the next 60 minutes due to a newly found security bug ... the price would have crashed to the ground.

Crypto enthusiast doesn't care about this news, we never see the price move and as others have trying to say that it will affect the image of Bitcoin again because it is being used by criminals. But it is not the case here, the whole dilemma is on the Twitter platform.

We will see more reports about this one, and I do hope that Twitter will take responsibility for this. It's sad to hear crypto and non crypto falling prey for this criminals, but how can you not if you see the tweet from their official account?

One said it could be temporarily shut down and that gonna be the best option. This is a very unfortunate situation that those big names involved in scamming because of their twitter account but this will never use to ruin crypto, only it affects an individual's reputation whose account has been hacked, nothing it correlates with the price of bitcoin.

This not only it happens to twitter but it also happens to other social media accounts. What would we do now, for all of us is to be more concerned and know the activities of our accounts in order to make aware if there is similar case like this? Just also to aware the public and never it goes into worse scamming issues.

Isnt this over yet? Why the hell Twitter wont just simply shut down the site temporarily and fixed all things that should be needed to be fixed because if this account hack do continue then it will
just give out negative impressions towards the platform or do simply means that these events are just tainting out Twitters shitty security.

People are aware on Twitter hack past few days and now they do have something new which directly give out some btc address not on that site url which had been flagged down already.

Twitter should fixed this asap.

They aren't just a social media website but they are also a business too, they can't just suddenly shutdown their website without breaking any kind of contract with their advertisers so I wouldn't expect a shutdown would be possible. Plus hacks happen  a lot and I barely see sites ahutting down their operations because of it. I know a lot of people got scammed by these hacks because they were fooled easily by accounts of these verified users but the way I see it these shouldn't take long before Twitter actually finds the root cause of it.

In past days, Twitter was shaken by this incident and remained closed for about 4 hours. According to the latest data shared, the amount of Bitcoin stolen with this incident was reported to be around 700 BTC, but it was not strictly confirmed. We have understood once again that such shares have never been relyed on, especially from accounts of popular and known phenomena. Although I did not have too many large transactions when I checked the sent transactions, it was not overlooked that a large amount of transfers were made from some wallets. I hope this event will be a serious experience for many people and again, with such events, many people will not get hurt once again.

This naturally is not suppose to affect bitcoin whether positive or negative because is not a bitcoin affair but a hack on Twitter accounts but the area it can have an effect is when fud about the possibility of affecting bitcoin starts coming on the forum that happens to be one of the largest bitcoin forum, then price can take a dive down as fear factor will make more people sell their hodling.

I understand this is the hottest issue in Twitter and crypto space, but man there are a lot of similar threads. You can lock this thread in 24hrs to avoid going on the topic which has been heavily discussed in the other section.

My question is, do you think about what happened on this, does it affect Bitcoin? Negative or positive?

This will give negative impact on Twitter's end. I mean their security has been compromised by hackers, because some employee got socially engineered by the hackers.
I don't think people would blame Bitcoin for this unfortunate event. Infact this gives Bitcoin and extra exposure to people who are completely unaware about Bitcoin including those who have heard about Bitcoin before but never got involved.
But media uses bitcoin scam as the title for this giveaway scam and even many people portray bitcoin it as online currency created for this purpose so people who actually don't know anything about bitcoin will get bad impression about these words so it will have impact in the adoption but they will come to know as well later about bitcoin so no worries, twitter need to pay for this because they let the hackers to steal money.

Negative, because those crypto enthusiasts know that this is the fault of Twitter itself and that is why many people who have a victim at that time. Besides those victims of scammers for sure are naive and greedy people. They just hope their money gets doubled in just a couple of minute. Right? The real crypto enthusiasts will smell shady activity like this, even if they follow a high profile account.

Negative in the sense that those victims will think that the medium that being
used to scam them are also scammed business.
The mindset of those people will completely negative to this business., thinking
that bitcoin is an easy channel to lure people.
But that's only to those who doesn't know bitcoin and crypto for those who are
in here before will just ignore it.

Yes, it doesn't relate to bitcoin. Bitcoin still strong, although the price does not increase. I agree with @stomachgrowls that twitter should temporarily shut down their server and fix everything, so there are no other guessing from people who don't know what is happening. I hope that twitter can control everything after they know the real problem, and they don't need too long to fix it. It is a learning for the other social media website to improve their security to prevent hackers.
