This shows that twitter lacks of security measures that many well-known personalities accounts got hacked and even pulled off a recent scam that targeted lots of users to be fooled by that bogus tweets made by the hackers. Any small vulnerability that hackers will always finds ways how to get into the system if there are openings  and with that i requires skills to pull it off. So, it's not fair to call them low IQ because what they did were lots of workload to succeed.

Jack of all trades 💯
1. Hacking an account is not an easy task and especially the accounts of celebrities are even more tough to hack as it takes more time to get the account hacked.
2. Hacking multiple accounts is even more difficult as it makes you more prone to get detected.
3. Hacking multiple accounts together is like some next level shit. It would take a hacker some extraordinary skills to get that job done.

So much of efforts just to get the price of bitcoin decreased ? If I would be hacker I would rather hack someone's bitcoin wallet rather than putting in so much of efforts to hack the social media accounts of celebrities.

P.S : Not that I would hack someone's bitcoin wallet but it's a typical hacker mindset.
Well, this just means that Twitter security is still not safe and this proves that no technology is safe. And what I read is that it does happen already in the past, twitter and google had it before. They just simply saved the users password in plaintext which is too easy to hack every single account. The recent hacks didn't actually budge that much of the price and Bitcoin is still in the $9k-ish+ level of price in the past few weeks.

I'm not a twitter user so for reading this happened already on the past but still they didn't secure their site it means that we cannot trust them with valuable information, so maybe this is a sort of warning to all their user to not put any deep information regarding on their selves since this could be used for certain bad things against them, But I'm glad it didn't affect the price since sometimes issue like this will be used just to create fud.

Thsi recent hack on twitter makes me to begin asking the question, do we really need password? What about private key to this kind of service that will not allow super Admin to gain access to individual account. I think a solution that everyone will be in charge of their account as against relying on central control should be implemented.
It's impossible to fix a problem like this on centralised services. Your exchanges and online wallets are all vulnerable to this kinds of hacks.

It would've been possible for the hackers to execute an attack like that but the value of the money probably wouldn't shift too much. Notice how the tweets were debunk quickly and I would assume if an influential figure who hasn't been into Bitcoin were to tweet something like this, people would be a lot more skeptical.

Eitherways, they made a good sum of Bitcoins and it could've been worse if they tweeted something that could've potentially undermined the national security.

I agree with you, the hacker could use that accounts for a wise move, and not for the way they use them, it could be really bad, he could even start a world war with twitter. But was fun to see how he offered to double the btc, lol, the old scammy move.

Lol... Just as scammers, hackers too are in for selfish business, there interest of course is to destroy by cheating out their ways, this is unfortunate. The Twitter hackers had more knowledge than you know, they decided to use it for illegal activity.

Imagine if Elon Musk , Binance, Coinbase, Coindesk, Finex, CZ, Justin and all these other hacked exchange accounts and Influence People were tweet blasting about SEC raids, exchange hacks, funds and Something Bad About Crypto etc.

They could've shorted Crypto Market and will be around $8600/Btc by now. All Alt Coin Will Down.
Users are not that dumb and they identified the massive hack in a short period of time and the hackers was not interested in crashing the price of BTCitcoin but they wanted to scam anyone possible to send the coins promising them to multiply them in a short period and they very well know there will be idiots who are greedy and will fall for them and they were successful from what i understand from the reports that are coming up.

Because of This type of Hacker Industry show Bad. tomorrow all News coverings This and New Investor will affected
These hacks will not affect the BTCitcoin market but it will affect twitter as it will loose its reputation if these kind of massive hacks happen regularly.

It was clear, hackers used the big names and good reputation of companies and influencers to deceive their followers. This is a very valuable lesson, even a certified account is not guaranteed to be free from scams, we must be really vigilant.
In addition, if only one or two accounts are hacked, it looks like it won't be easy to find out, but this hacking together and makes a lot of people who quickly realized. I also salute on Twitter who immediately take appropriate anticipatory steps, so that this fraud is immediately interrupted.

Except exchanges have KYC and could have very quickly reacted to it, like temporarily freezing withdrawals until they find the culprit's accounts. Plus there's no guarantee that the price would be crashed so hard, it's pretty obvious to most people that such strange tweets are fake. Owners of twitter accounts could react in minutes, deleting the tweets and making a statement.

The hackers could have gotten more money if they sold this attack to governments, I'm sure China and Russia would pay millions for a chance to stir more conflict in the West, especially in the US. And it could have been done in a way to make hacking less obvious, and people would immediately start making conspiracy theories that there was no hacking, and the tweets were real.

Sounds easy but you do really think of that hackers havent consider such stuff? Of course they do but to arrange all things up then its quite hassle on my part as being a hacker.

You wouldnt mind too many things or too complicated but rather they do directly to make scamming attempt once they do able to grasp out one of these accounts

yet they do know that they can benefit it out directly without the need of complicating things up.

This is correct, hackers like these have interest in their specific benefit, just imagine yourself in such position, you gain access to a huge amount of high profile twitter accounts, you have to think your next move, ask for money or try to take a jab at an entire industry that you probably even support (by using btc) that will recover eventually?

The most reward / risk ratio falls on the former.

Hackers always come in new ways, trying to break into the security of the site they want to restore. In this case, when the latest news related to hacking wallet from Elon Must, it is increasingly convinced that the online world will not be far from fraud and interpretation. When they join forces and form a new force to make people aware of the importance of truly safe security. Even hacking can surpass what has happened before.

That's not what the hackers want though. all they wanted is to promote their filthy scams with the help of the big names companies and influencers. That only be possible or it has a higher chance to fool people when you let those Big-time guys tweet for you. Thankfully Twitter has able to detect such fraud and minimized the damage or else they will gonna compensate it if someone gonna lose something big. I think the only thing the hacker missed is they only wrote their post in one sentence without constructing it well in the other pages.

There's a thing with all those hacks and fake news spread by them that their effect is never permanent.

If all those accounts were hacked and used to bash Bitcoin it could crash the price at first as gullible new investors back away but then all those accounts would be banned or returned to their previous owners and people would buy back.

The ones who lose here are those who panic sell when there's nothing wrong with their investment.

If you had a house and some people came and told you it's built on an old cementery and you'll get scared and sell it to later find out there was no cementery there, would you blame them or yourself for not doing the research and panicking?

What you have said here is right, yes they shouldn’t have done such thing because it is giving cryptocurrency a bad name. But do you think these cares about cryptocurrency industry/community?  Angry No, they don’t give a damn about cryptocurrency, these are hackers and scammers, and they are ready to do anything possible for them to make money.

After they have made that money they don’t care if cryptocurrency gets a bad name or whatsoever is going to happen. They are only interested in that money they are going to make, and nothing else matters to them. When I saw the news this morning I was a bit worried the news kept mentioning them as Bitcoin hackers. It now seems like every time Bitcoin goes viral is only for a bad reason. I hope this doesn’t demotivate new/potential investors.

They wouldnt really  care at all if this industry would really be stained up with negative reputation and as said as long they do gain money or benefit out which is their prime motive in the first place.
I agree that everytime do Bitcoin made out some news or exposure it is always on the negative side or when the times where it being tagged along with scamming events or even this one knowing that
twitter is  big as a medium which is enough to spread out.I dont consider those hackers to be low IQ because they do already have those in mind about how they do extract money out of the
hacking that they had done. They might not able to do whats other been saying up here but doesnt mean that they havent realized it earlier on.

Through the high-profile users they hacked the convinced people to join and fall into their trap. Sorry for their loss but there's no way to recover their fund and might they all regret about this.
This case seems to have been planned well. With a structured strategy, the fraudsters use the large and verified accounts to attract mass attention. The blue check that is used as a reference as an "official account" is now doubtful, fortunately, Twitter support moves quickly to overcome this, otherwise more people will be deceived. And the strongest suspicion is this coordinated social engineering attack, the target is the Twitter internal system.

This is an important lesson for us all. I am sorry for the victims, most people pay dearly for a life lesson. That's how it is ... the internet and social media really have a lot of power right now to manipulate someone's actions, so it is wise to manage your money.

I'm shocked that I'm late from this news and then when I was looking on google it seem this hacked event was so hot issue now.

Well from what I read on another source, it appears they were able to make away with some funds, I think some people actually send some btc over to the address they provided to get it double, I only read it, not sure if it is authentic or not, however, am still in shock how they manage to hack so many accounts of top people the way they did, am still processing the whole scenario.
That is doubling attempt of your bitcoin and they never return the bitcoin they collected. I had read that not all bitcoin they collected is from the followers of the victim. I read on the twitter account of bitcoin transaction investigation service from Chainalysis that hackers also used their bitcoin to lure more people to join the scam event.

Through the high-profile users they hacked the convinced people to join and fall into their trap. Sorry for their loss but there's no way to recover their fund and might they all regret about this.

A single person can never hack the accounts of this much social media celebrities and even the twitter support account was hacked, the hacker might have accessed the twitter database and stolen the passwords or maybe as I said a single person can't do this kind of attack so, maybe a team is involved in all this and they had a pretty generous payday with the address accumulating more than $110k in just a few hours after which twitter banned the tweets from all celebrity accounts due to the fear of more people falling prey to this scam.

This is also scary that when some of the powerful persons in the world twitter account can be hacked then for common people it would be so easy for them to do anything they wish too. Also, not sure how many people would have believed them and would have transferred as the coins in anticipation that they will get it back. This was covered in a special show as well in our country and asked people to avoid such things and also this creates a bad name as people in media were telling that bitcoin can be misused and such things are happening so it should be banned etc which is so unfortunate thing to happen.

I mean, I'm pretty sure their main goal is to steal as much funds as possible; and it's not like the shorting method is that complicated. But ok let's say that the hackers don't even know what shorting is— there's still a lot more less worse methods than the hackers used.

It's just either one of thes:

1. The hackers aren't fluent in English or writing in general
2. The hackers don't know crap about social engineering and they're more of the "technical" hacker
3. The hackers didn't have the time to think of a clever method

whatever the level of their IQ, i think the crypto community should be glad this hackers never thought of the above listed, that would have been detrimental to the market, knowing the way crypto work, any slight bad news can affect price greatly, they fail on their attempt to steal funds that is much better,
i think any clever hacker may already have a plan what to do before hacking, pretty sure this guys don't have any plan what to do when they succeed, it was more like a fun thing to them the way i see it.

There are several ways to look at things really and from when the news broke and when I saw it, I felt bad because it further establishes the notion that people have in their mind that bitcoin is about scams and there is nothing to be done about it. However, a further deep down again sends a message to everyone that no system is un-hackable whether by compromise. For me, I would expect the value for Twitter to take a hit because it shows that some systems can be penetrated. if Twitter can be, no system is safe then but at the same time its a wake up call to every service provider or platform globally to ensure that their system and infrastructures are up to date.

Compare rates on different exchanges & swap.
People should be careful how they view the hack on Twitter. If such an important social media is well decentralized, the hack won't be happening at this scale. I mean, how can such important personalities have their private stuff and password not controlled by themselves? Hacks like this could be frequent occurrence on centralized system anywhere in the world. It's just that some site owners/nations are more transparent/open about them than others.

Well decentralized systems remain the best way to make things safe and secure. Companies, businesses, organizations etc should be seriously considering moving to "well decentralized" systems. True crypto world and crypto users are seriously moving towards that direction. That is basically what Bitcoin is about. It's also moving towards that direction... it isn't there yet.

It's really unfortunate that Bitcoin and crypto get involved in this. I don't think true Bitcoin/crypto fan would do such thing if they understand the  wrong impression it will create about Bitcoin/crypto. It's something people that are "anti-bitcoin good principles" would do...,. The network is made of good community/communities that believe in the principles guaranteed by any "Just Country" on Earth . Principles like, transparency, decentralization, security, immutablity, censorship resistant, community consensus, good rules, privacy, freedom to control our money/assets, etc. Which Just Country on earth does not guarantee those principles to law abiding people?
Becareful not to ever let go these important rights. Don't hand them over to centralized systems.
If they could convince you that things like Bitcoin or other decentralized tech that run via community consensus (more like true democracy) are full of criminals, they can get you to handover control to dictatorships (centralized powers).

Hopefully, with the way the communities are currently developing, we should be able to prevent bitcoins from going into proven crime/criminal addresses via laid down rules/consensus. It should be possible to gain acess to just the private keys of the criminals' addresses and recover the crime funds(this should be done via consensus). We can't leave the rest of the community vulnerable because of few criminals. We  always have the problem of "few criminals making everybody look bad" situation in every country, right?
So let's keep improving Bitcoin and others, to help them/us achieve the goals of true decentralization.

Cant blame them actually. The Twitter accounts are authentic accounts of users involved but it was just been used. Sometime there are lots of giveaways happening on Twitter and it can make you believe that its legit since they are the one who iniatiated this. But in this case, owners of those accounts have no knowledge about it and just been compromise by the hackers. It just become obvious scam when there are lots of known person starting to tweet the same.

A lesson that must learn, there is no easy way to earn Bitcoin in a doubling process. The hackers tweeted on big companies twitter accounts and ask to send a certain amount of Bitcoin and promised that it will send it back double the amount you have sent. It's weird, isn't it? It's very suspicious even if the real owner ask on that offer I will still wait further clarification.

As per Twitter Support says, they already locked the compromised twitter accounts and have further investigated this case. And I hope this isn't an inside job that most commonly happened, many people asked how this will happen that the security has been breached.

And Twitter support tweeted this,
"We detected what we believe to be a coordinated social engineering attack by people who successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools".

BBC say

"In the short time it was online, the link displayed in the tweets of targeted accounts received hundreds of contributions totalling more than $100,000 (£80,000), according to publicly available blockchain records."

Just goes to show that the intelligence/gullibility of people left holding bitcoin.

While unfortunate, it's really not like bitcoin holders specifically are actually people that intellectually disabled or something. People in general, especially those who aren't internet savvy and those who know nothing about investing and finance, are pretty gullible.

I don't understand why the op is saying something about the low IQ of these hackers. They simultaneously hacked various accounts of very reputable people on Twitter, and it seems that it's still unclear how they managed to do that.

"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." -Albert Einstein

This quote pretty much sums it up. It seems that the hackers are talented technical-wise(hacking and such), but are lacking in the social engineering aspect(scamming).

I don't understand why the op is saying something about the low IQ of these hackers. They simultaneously hacked various accounts of very reputable people on Twitter, and it seems that it's still unclear how they managed to do that. As a BBC article on the topic says,
Quote
Dmitri Alperovitch, who co-founded cyber-security company CrowdStrike, told Reuters news agency: "This appears to be the worst hack of a major social media platform yet."
Moreover, they managed to get $110k with this scheme (at least that's the amount I've seen in the articles that mention the matter). So even if there were some mistakes in those tweets, the attack was quite successful. It's not millions of dollars, but it's still a significant amount of money and no clue of the authorities who these hackers are (so they're likely to get away with this).

It's a breaking news in many media today. I'm not surprised, hackers attack happen all the time and social media are also a target, especially public persons profiles.

Public person accounts are much easier to move greed and unaware people, this
hackers really enjoyed the money.
They've simply take it away from those followers who thinks that the tweets are
for real and person who tweeted will double their money.

They used their popularity as a tool to attract people. I'm not surprised they managed to get quite a sum, there are so many naïve people not aware of any cyber threats so this is actually an easy job. Humans are always the weakest link.

Unawareness and mostly greediness are the reason why people people are being moved

What I think at the moment is the vulnerability of Twitter. I am also concerned that day by day we work hard to make Bitcoin a reliable currency and that the bad actors in this case hackers, they have mocked our face.

I have seen all the commotion that the attack caused on Twitter and there will surely be consequences where credibility will be tested. Bitcoin's insecurity and usability may or may not reign. Hopefully not.
We all know that fiat also have pros and cons in term of usage but using cryptocurrency in such scenario as a way of scamming people will bring more strict regulations especially when the probability of getting the peoples money back is not certain. I wish those hackers are caught and pay heavily for their crime.

They used their popularity as a tool to attract people. I'm not surprised they managed to get quite a sum, there are so many naive people not aware of any cyber threats so this is actually an easy job. Humans are always the weakest link.

I believe that the hacker(s) didn't expect so many accounts get compromised.
And frankly, if you would get to receive so easy almost 13 BTC... would you care what people think about your IQ?

They targeted greed and stupidity, which is abundant on this world, they've filled their bags nicely and they'll go on.
Such amount should not affect Bitcoin price and hey, Bitcoin will be in the headlines again  Grin

And I see a Monero supporter also did profit of all this, making his own slice of advertising too: https://cointelegraph.com/news/hidden-messages-found-in-transactions-to-twitter-hack-bitcoin-address

Because of This type of Hacker Industry show Bad. tomorrow all News coverings This and New Investor will affected

Definitely it's a low IQ approach but there is a big gang of hackers behind this incident today. The news channels are constantly showing it in a very bad light coupling with bitcoin. That's what I am more worried. Hacking incidents are normal but this time the scale is huge and major business personalities are hacked along with fat-ass Kardashians. But after this successful hacking, the approach taken by the hackers are really laughable and very low IQ indeed.

Twitter has promptly taken care of this issue and limited the access of this accounts after deleting the tweets. But the reputation loss bitcoin just had from all these incidents, are not easily recoverable!

It seems, hackers are leveraging from privacy feature of bitcoin big time!

Spreading such FUD by using hacked Twitter accounts of popular people and companies might have a short term effect on the Bitcoin price.
However, the people aren't that stupid,so they won't trust those Twitter accounts immediately, they will check Google and Facebook,or some news websites.
You know what journalists say:Always check your info by using at least two independent sources of information.
It sucks that Twitter was attacked via this social engineering hack.Jack Dorsey is a major Bitcoin supporter and I'm sure that he will do everything to solve this problem.

BBC say

"In the short time it was online, the link displayed in the tweets of targeted accounts received hundreds of contributions totalling more than $100,000 (£80,000), according to publicly available blockchain records."

Just goes to show that the intelligence/gullibility of people left holding bitcoin.

I suppose if you think bitcoin will get to $100k then I guess its reasonable to expect Elon Musk to send you back $2000 if you send him $1000.

It makes you completely lose faith in mankind when people seriously think that a random politician or entrepreneur all of a sudden comes up with a stunt like that. OK, Elon Musk could be but Joe Biden? The level of being gullible has risen again and I´m afraid it´s not the end., At least #bitcoin is trending and it´s not pro or con BTC but all about the vulnerability of Twitter. Could be good in the long run for BTC

A single tweet from a hacked Elon Musk account could have amassed the $100k wealth from stupid newbies and so called bitcoiners. I wouldn't always say that a hacker is solely responsible for the hack as the persons from whom the money has been stolen is equally responsible for the hack being carried out on such an extent. Last year we had Electrum vulnerabilities which was targeted towards newbie coiners and a few bitcoins were stolen in the process.

In the field of cryptocurrency, it is quite easier to scam newbies and take the shit out of them and common sense plays a bigger role when you get scammed. There were repeated similar tweets at regular intervals from various celebrities and a simple common sense could have saved the victims bitcoin from being lost. One should probably read a lot more to understand the basics before getting themselves on the hands of bitcoin and receiving their first stashes of bitcoin.

Centralized organisations like Binance which has a lot more power in the cryptocurrency space should be feared upon than these twitter hacks. There are possibilities and power which relies on them which can indeed help them to bribe the miners and reverse the transactions and so on. Personally I would consider these organisations as a bigger threat to bitcoin and its price rather than these nonsensical twitter hacks which are targeted towards new bitcoiners.

but news like this can not affect the price for them to make any additional money from market manipulation. not to mention that the market manipulation is not as easy as you may think and it also costs a lot of money. a small time hacker doesn't have that much money to manipulate the market successfully without losing a big  chunk of it.
they also have never earned that much money from this type of attacks that targets individual newbies and relies on their idiocy to make money.

Their IQ was not that low though because they were able to pull out such an incredible achievement. Grin

And they made some nice money out of it. Not too big but surely an easy money. But if only they were a little more brilliant than they appear right now, they could have made a bigger prize.

With what they did, they only got money from too easy preys.

Well it does not at all and btc market stays strong. I do not know if this really affected the crypto market because most of the users in cryptocurrency are already aware of this from the start they invest their money to this high risk investment system. I know that some users may not consider crypto as an investment but for me it does because a user might be able to loss or gain profit. Other than that for now bitcoin has no clear definitition on what bitcoin could really be an asset or a digital currency.

Anyway, what important is that crypto users now do were flexible when it comes to decision making. Of course holding it would be at great advantage.

It'd be a tad bit too obvious for others who are observant. Everyone suddenly tweeting about BTC being sht? About it being bad? Sure, 1st/2nd day it may actually have results, but after that, some observant people would see something weird, something odd. Plus, simple research would obviously result in seeing that such tweets are odd after all, so I don't think they would've opted for such a decision that wouldn't bring them any guaranteed profit. At the very least, with the way they did, they managed to earn something.

It's not that they have low IQ, they probably either didn't have enough time since they believed they would be busted quite quickly (which indeed happened), or they guaranteed the minimum amount of profit instead of going for the maximum one. Still, using a scam from way back 2017 does make these hackers seem like they have low IQ's.

That is wrong because this hackers are High in IQ Mate,Imagine they did hacked those prominent and popular people in the world specially this coming election that they took advantage of the situations.
Also they choose cryptocurrency to the the target because of people can be lured easily here n online.
This isn't really expected from such as big social media. This is a massive hack and Twitter admitted that security issue. But seems scammers using traditional hacking tricks like a giveaway. Most of bitcoin users know about this scam now expect few greedy users.  I don't know if it will effect on bitcoin price, but seems it's on downtrend already.

Anyway hackers seems to me weren't much smart and likely not much scam would happen this way. Double bitcoin is a terrible scheme and most of big investors will not believe in that. That's why we should increase more awareness about these kinds of scams.

yeah and according to BBC here

https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-53425822

These hackers are really good at it and they must be put against bar.

Smart is not enough, there must be skills
This is hot news today because there have been many Twitter accounts with big names in hacks, is this weak security on Twitter's social media?

This became a commotion because hackers posted by doubling the money on their hacked Twitter account, of course this would be very influential because it was a lot of people watching, this is a very weak vulnerability in the industrial world.

Even now there are those who are sad for this case.

This is the example of F.U.D/F.O.M.O news it isn't new and for sure hackers had that idea once in awhile but it isn't as it seems.
First even if they could post it or hack some of those account there would be a lot of news and they could only last for awhile so it the panic would only be for a short time I think the market wouldn't easily collapse because of it.
People know how to check the news if it is true or just to manipulate the price.

It's quite a giant news let me tell you. Even BBC news source are reporting this hacking incident. Also, a Youtuber made a commentary about Elon Musk asking for doubling Bitcoin which is funny because he related it to a runescape scamming and how dumb people can fall to even with this classic scam.

I'm curious why you think this affects Bitcoin. All it really does is just expose the vulnerabilities of websites and show how crappy the world is. The accounts are clearly hacked and so I am very curious to see why Twitter hasn't taken any action yet - is it that hard to delete the posts from those hacked accounts?
Maybe thinks that when these account hacked posted something negative news related to btc it will follow by the foolowers. Serious investors will double check these post in other platforms as well in different websites for reference of tye news. The account owner itself will eventually let it know to announce whether they account been hacked. Twitter been into many hacking issues ever since. The security on it isn't guaranteed, if some traders only rely on this as well only on news gets from there, I don't think no investors/traders will only rely on twitter post, they need to validate it before doing anything in their investments before it affects bitcoin.

i dont think it is good to transact business with social media only. you need to use a secure platform if you are dealing with money. so investors should not in any way rely on these platforms. usually they are spreading fake news and info...
soc med is saturated by scammers..the reason why as much as possible i avoid these platforms

Sounds easy but you do really think of that hackers havent consider such stuff? Of course they do but to arrange all things up then its quite hassle on my part as being a hacker.

You wouldnt mind too many things or too complicated but rather they do directly to make scamming attempt once they do able to grasp out one of these accounts

yet they do know that they can benefit it out directly without the need of complicating things up.
