Here's the block explorer for testnet: http://blockexplorer.com/testnet

You can see that there were a whole bunch of blocks mined 10-27 within a few hours, and then no blocks for 24 hours. The testnet difficulty is 140 (compare with 1,400,000 of Bitcoin). Without money incentive to mine, transaction blocks come sporadically whenever someone is experimenting on testnet and decides to mine there for giggles.

On the regular bitcoin network, which has a consistent hash rate, a new transaction block is created about every 10 minutes, and you get the 6 block "confirmed" status in around an hour.

Generally you get a confirmation for every new block that is created in the network after your transaction has been broadcasted.

The prod network has a lot better support than the test network. On the prod network miners are actively paid to process transactions.

So typically with a new block every 10 minutes your transaction will enter the block chain on average within 5 minutes.

That's assuming your transaction is picked up by the miner who wins the next block. It's also dependant on the fees you add. i.e. some miners wouldn't pick up a transaction with no fees.

Hi, I am trying play a bit with the test network ,
I see that -200 BTC transaction took almost a day to get a confirmation.
Is it the same with the real network ? What is that latency depends on ?

Thanks in advance.
