Who would you recommend I pm about people like this?    I think the "report this post" link posts it to the section moderator;  which in this type of instance the poster needs to be reviewed;  not the post.. so im wondering if that type of report will go to the right place if you understand my thinking.
Here is my one and only report button (modification of suchmoon's BCT report script)

Code:
button_container.appendChild(create_button(post_container, "0 value", "Generic, vague, padded, and/or irrelevant post. Brings no new information. Zero value.", null, true));

It covers 99.9% of reportable posts. When you need to bring attention to the user itself, I would say to report a few posts of theirs with the comment "This user is spamming. Check their post history here: _______"

Should I be flagging these sorts of posts/people?
Flagging via the flag system? Abso-fucking-lutely not.

Flagging as in reporting either privately or publicly via a thread/forum post/PM to a moderator? Absolutely.

The issue with the altcoin sections is that over 99% of posts on them are spam.

I can attest to this because I have literally reported entire consecutive pages and actually increased my reporting accuracy from 97% to 99%.

This was over a sample size of about 1800 reports.

sorry;  poor choice in words....

reporting should have been the word.....

I guess i should just use "serial spam nonsense comments, nothing useful submitted by this user" in the report reason field?

I am pretty sure that account is using either a crappy bot to formulate a response, or is just forming an answer or blind comment based on the context of the subject field only.

I am considering making a few posts with incorrect topics; and have the discussion be 100% about a different thing (but still relevant to the section).... Just to try and pick out these types of posters....  Maybe a moderator might think about doing this themselves.

Who would you recommend I pm about people like this?    I think the "report this post" link posts it to the section moderator;  which in this type of instance the poster needs to be reviewed;  not the post.. so im wondering if that type of report will go to the right place if you understand my thinking.

Speaking of spammerisms: Look at this guy's post history...
https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/mihacrypto-1142904

I mean;  language barrier... maybe... but...

What have his posts really added to most topics?  They seem....   unintelligible....  and all of his comments seem to rotate around the thread topic, and not other peoples responses.  His comment in Phil's thread about the new threadripper made me want to look into him.

Should I be flagging these sorts of posts/people?

Admins should start locking threads which don't serve any purpose. They can start with the gambling section so the topic created with the title "What is your favorite gambling site" in 2013 can stop spammers from posting.
I think there is a new thread with the same question "What is your favorite gambling site?". In my opinion it is clearly their scheme to be able to increase their post count by creating a thread until the thread will have more pages used for every person who reply in the thread when answering. I don't disagree locking threads that it's not helpful anymore or doesn't have purpose anymore.

I still can't tell if he already retired but he's still active here from time to time, I guess not.

Those number are totally insane seems a good motivation for those who wants to help even nothing will get back. This post of him motivated me as well and currently I'm under 98% of his total reported post but still as it says there "one accurate report is worth many inaccurate reports."

I guess he self admited in some kind of post that he edited his report counts with some editor ! Dont know exactly where the post is or was but can be in the Reporter Badges Thread !

Back when the forum was at its height, and I was reporting thousands of posts every other day,
Really? Just curious what your total report stats are like.. Reporting thousands of posts every other day must be very time-consuming.

Here you have it !

I can officially announce my retirement @ 39899 reports. I didn't even make it to 40k.

this is brilliant  but all admin needs to do make all auction bids drop post count by 1 instead of adding 1 to post count

Quote with agreement

Random derailment
Ad-hominem attacking
Unprovoked anger

Report unnecessary, contrived, vague, and general posts.
Most threads should last no longer than 3 pages. Lock them after they cease to be of use.

Rule of thumb is that if a thread exceeds 1 page, the topic is either very complex/interactive...
or it's being dragged-along through regurgitated replies or a separate discussion which is better-suited to another thread (or a few).

Seeing the same garbage over, and over I honestly thought I might be losing it a little. Luckily for us the spam isn't quite as bad as back then, although still a nuisance.

Bravo, actmyname.  You could have written a good-sized book about all the things shitposters say instead of that poem thing--but it was funny to read.

That actually wouldn't be a bad idea you know, I'd love to see someone publish a book with the most notable Bitcointalk shit-posts in poem format.

Agreed, the only threads I can think of that warrant having more than 3 pages, are high-quality overview threads or announcement threads (to keep discussion about that particular coin up-to-date in a single thread).
Though in those types of threads, useless replies should be removed. That's why I'm not against ANN threads being self-moderated (this also came up in a different META thread).

On no other board have I seen such garbage, and I assume that if signature campaigns ever become extinct, this forum will revert to something out of 2009-2011.  You know, a normal discussion forum.  Until then, I'll continue to use the ignore button and keep certain sections blocked so I don't even have to see the thread titles.  Sometimes those alone make me pull my hair out.

@xolxol This has nothing to do with someone not being able to speak English or not. This is about people typing some random words creating a sentence-like structure that has no meaning or the usual low quality spam.

Tell me what is the meaning behind this reply in the OP?
Quote
You have goods for sale?
Don't want but tell me details
Thanks for the free post

He is asking if there are goods for sale, he is not interested in buying any but he wants more information about the goods he is not interested in buying.
And he ends his brilliant post with a thank you note to the OP for giving him an opportunity to increase his post count by +1.

This is spam in English, Spanish or any other language and has nothing to do with language skills.
