Maybe this have something to do with the exchange rate of Bitcoins, we all know that the price of Bitcoin is not stable and if you we're paid 0.01 BTC in the morning and if you try to convert that 0.01 BTC to fiat, rate is not same anymore, they could face a serious amount of loss if exchange of BTC goes down in just a day.

This! Uber and Bitcoin are a match made in heaven for me. I don't understand why are they this reluctant to incorporate Bitcoin into their payment system.

One thing that comes to my mind is the Bitcoin's bad reputation. Maybe they would get from the press that they have joined forces with drug providing Bitcoin.

Isn't it that UBER accepts payment using a debit card or a prepaid card?
If YES then there are Debit Cards out there that can be loaded with Bitcoin right? Like the debit card of Bit-X?

It is good news of more companies accepting Bitcoin. Hope that people go in and really pay in Bitcoin then.

The progress in adoption is measured not so much in companies accepting Bitcoin, but in people actually paying in Bitcoin, I think.

That's cool, but there's no Uber service in my local city.

This shouldn't be difficult for them to do as (I think) they use Braintree for payments. All they have to do basically is enable it. I remembering hearing it just wasn't worth it for them yet - not enough demand I guess.

I think Uber will eventually accept Bitcoin without any third party services.

The monoply system that is involved in the taxi business is crazy! Think I read in my area that a taxi license can be worth 1 million dollars and sure its similar in others parts as well. So when Uber moves in without paying the license fee people are going to get their backs up for sure. Saw the taxis are releasing similar apps now to counter uber and stagnate it in some form.
The cabbies around me are big issues. If I am in a cross walk its always a cabbie coming into the cross walk and stopping a foot away from my legs. Feel like leaving uber stickers on their dashboards. The other issue is the majority of them are from India in the Punjab area and have no idea how to get any where or speak clear English. Its become a big issue,besides the fact a lot of them also moonlight in the construction business. So they are tired and over worked.

Uber connecting with bitcoin is awesome.

Uber by nature is just as disruptive as bitcoin and has already helped to dissolve and cause chaos in the cabbing industry, i'm amazed that its taken this long for a service like this to be built

US-based bitcoin exchange platform Bitcoin Builder has announced their release of a bitcoin service that enables users to pay with bitcoin for Uber rides.

How it works :

Bitcoin Builder created a business account on the Uber network, which allows the firm to display itself as a payment method on the Uber mobile app.

Users are required to use the Bitcoin Builder multi-sig wallet to associate it with the firm’s Uber business account. After the activation, users will see Bitcoin Builder as a payment option on the “SELECT PAYMENT” section of the Uber mobile application.

The service works everywhere Uber works, even in countries like India, where credit card penetration is below 2%. According to a report published by The Hindu Business Line, the number of credit cards stood at 21 million by 2014-15. Currently, Uber does not accept debit cards in the country. Uber India takes Paytm, a centralized payment network in India for its local users. But now, Bitcoin Builder’s bitcoin-to-Uber service will give many in India that do not own credit cards or bank accounts an option to pay for the service in another way.

“India needs this service terribly,” said an Uber user in India on Reddit. “Uber does not accept debit cards and many of us don't have credit cards…people use cash a lot in India. Bitcoins bought in India are primarily bought in cash. If service like this could be extended to other services, it would be awesome.”

Honestly I never heard of "Bitcoin Builder" , but I guess I'am used to hear and read about those "unkown" companies on CoinTelegraph.com ...
