Yes.  You might trip over some user rights problems, but if they are your usb and harddrives (No other user has protected them) you'll be fine.

I get the Unity idea is to have a common interface that will work on PC, TV, Mobile and probably other devices but they just messed up giving up on Gnome 2 way back in 10.10 and to be honest it's never been the same since. I remember the good old days of 10.04 - what a distro. Everything worked, performance was awesome and it was rock-solid. Now you try to compile something, the CFLAGS are all wrong an gcc won't recognise math.h sqrt. Whoopsie jumps up and down like it's Christmas and crappy Unity becomes a real pain (even with ALT+`) if you dare open up 3 or more windows of the same application. I know it's water under the bridge by now but I never quite got over it how you can take a great distro (10.04) and turn it into something like 14.04. Cinnamon and MATE still have some way to go. Xfce or KDE is what's left now...

The revolution will be monetized!
Hmmm. thanks for the info. I am still running 10.10, which I think was the high water mark. After that the project seemed too focused on layout, IMO. I'll give 14.04 a try.

Damn I downloaded 12.04, but it didn't used to work with my old laptop.. I downloaded 13.04 in march but didn't got time to test.
Downloading 14.04 now..

I'm using 12.04 now. I'll also check this out very soon. Is there much difference on the new one? I hate getting used to new versions.

Linux game support is growing exponentially ever since about 2010.   Nowadays just about every indie game supports it.

The AAA studios don't always quite yet but since Steam threw its weight behind it even that is changing.
I'm a gamer who switched to Linux and while I have run into some annoyances I haven't been so pissed off that I had to go back.  (My gaming habits have changed a little tho)

Always wanted to try Linux, but I am a gamer and as you probably all know not many games support that system, maybe in the future with steambox situation will change and more games will be supporting linux. Good to hear that Ubuntu is good OS tho. Gotta remember that Wink

There is a Steam on Linux fyi. Several games are available and more to come - so you can give it a try. Smiley

I just installed Ubuntu yesterday on my iMac, and my god, it went from a nightmare to use to faster than OS X and Windows on the same machine. Everything about Ubuntu is faster. I can now have multiple apps open, and the dashboard doesn't freeze up anymore. (That was a show stopper).

I have made the decision to completely dump Apple and will be purchasing a System76 PC. I'm waiting to see the new Ratel Performance available on 4/29.

I may even pickup an unlocked Galaxy S5 with the money I'll have saved by not purchasing an overpriced Apple product. (Unlocked is the way to go!)
