Is there any reason you can't install Windows?

I tried this and it was just too much work and upkeep. So I installed Windows 7, shortcut to cgminer in Start -> Programs -> Startup and that's it, good to go.

No hacking virtual x servers and writing init scripts so the x server runs and then getting the miner to run on the same X... total headache.

Yeah, but maybe he has 500k of these spread out all over the internet and he's not paying for their electricity. Hint hint nudge nudge.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a huge botnet made up of headless Ubuntu server machines with GPUs attached.  Just a hunch.

You'll pay more to mine on the NVIDIA card than the value of BTC it'll produce, unless your electricity is free.

Thanks for the replies guys. The NVIDIA card is the only thing I have available, and I'm not looking to get into mining bitcoins to make hundreds of them all at once. I figured I could at least generate a few BTC without having the leave the miner running for 20 years straight. Tongue

Hey everyone,

I'm currently running a home server that has Ubuntu Server installed (this isn't the server that I'm selling web hosting from, for anyone that finds this post and the other post). The server is headless and has an NVIDIA graphics card installed.

Are there any tutorials online or any software here that I can stumble through to try and get a mining client setup on it? I'd love to be able to mine 24/7 on a headless server, but everywhere I'm looking is leading me to dead ends.

Thanks for any help you may be able to give...

Ricky
There is a good tut for xbuntu, maybe you can port it?  But with that card, there is no point in mining, you'll make what... 70Mh/s?
I use a headless MK802 II with ubuntu to mine with my BFL Single. You really shouldn't be mining on that GPU, but a headless unit running FPGA (and eventually ASICs) can be sweet.
