Anyway, how was main event?  Is it worth watching?

It wasn't a good fight. They were both waiting to counter & spent a lot of time not doing anything waiting for the other person to make a move.

Gilbert Melendez vs Jeremy Stephens was a brutal fight. Can't say that was really a good fight either so much as a one sided beat down.

Ilir Latifi vs Tyson Pedro might have been the best fight on the card that wasn't a completely one sided affair.

Wasn't able to watch the fight but I read that the fight is very tactical and they are very careful against each other, so I don't think they lived up to the hype. And they say that the fans are booing, LOL. I guess the 5th round takedown really seal the victory for Nunes. Yes, the Melendes and Stephens fight are brutal and we all know the Gilbert get bloodied always. And Jeremy Stephens won the fight. Will try to look for videos later and watch the fight though.

Valentina vs Amanda fight was such a scam. Valentina clearly won, outstriked her for 5 rounds. The only thing Amanda Nunes did was to go for the takedown on round 5, not much else to be honest. I can't believe how much a of a scam of a split decision that was. Dana White must be so pissed off at this, considering that he was mad at Amanda. I doubt he made Amanda win by paying the judges or something. Didn't enjoy this card, the rest of fighters nobodies for a casual fan like me. I can't wait for the next Ferguson vs Lee main card, that will be great.

I don't think its a scam but just like a said, it didn't live to its hype and it just so happened that the main event was cancelled and their fight became the main event that turns out to be a dull and boring fight. Maybe we are really used to seeing Ronda giving us good fight in the division that why we are expecting more from this women. It was a close fight indeed up until the 5th round takedown of Nunes. I don't think that Dana will give Amanda, as long as she is the champiion the main card event again unless she proves that she can give the fans what they wanted like Ronda Rousey did during her reign.

Yup, I thought so.  Shev has always been a slow starter and Nunes, I guess she used her energy efficiently, that's why she finished the whole 5 rounds without gassing out?  So yeah, I could imagine the slow first three rounds, and then starts picking up at the fourth.

Is anybody else getting a McGregor hangover?  I don't seem to be looking forward to 216 and 217.  Lol.

You are not the only one mate. I still have that hangover as well. But then seeing this fight after the May-McGregor fight, is seems that I'm not looking to watch unless their are good match or good names in the card.

The Nunes vs Shevchenko was a complete disappointed. Just like others have said, its very tactical, like a chess game. Both are looking for the other one to make a mistake before making a move. Though I'm looking forward at Canelo-GGG on the boxing side. Smiley

Yep, this card is really boring af without Johnson vs Borg. Both fighters are playing defensive which is unusual for Nunes, i agree that takedown on 5th round is a lock for Nunes win. Rip for the people who buy per per view, still can't believe though Borg can't fight on this card. When i saw the ufc vlog, borg seems fine.

I feel asleep watching the main event LOL. Yes the fans are booing because they want both fighters to engaged. But they just touch each other until the take down in the fight. Nunes really doesn't have sparks to be a champion unlike the Ronda Rousey, who became the face not only of the bantamweight division, but the UFC for many years. I'm liking him to D. Johnson, although one of the best and the current champion, seems to lack the star power that a champion like Jon Jones. And as champion for me Nunes should at least the aggressor in this fight.

Just as I expected, Nunes vs Shevchenko didn't live to its hype and just a snoozer fight to me. Luckily I didn't watch the fight as well, but did see the fight in Youtube. I read that Nunes said that she will have plans to take some time off following her victory because she needs her sinuses repaired through surgery.

Gilbert Melendez made his return and debut in the featherweight but he came in short. Though he lost, he was able to 'walk' away with the 'Fight of the Night' bonus. But it was brutal to see Jeremy Stephens bombardment Melendez legs from a barrage of kicks, and it was nasty as hell.

Jeremy Stephens looked amazing and Latifi had a nice bounce back win. Main event was pretty boring but I think Valentina really won that fight. She out struck Nunes and although Nunes had those takedowns Valentina was doing more damage from her back. It was a close fight though so it was hard to judge.

I must really be having a Maywaether vs McGregor hang over.  I didn't watch the event...  And the funny part is I didn't care!  Lol.  Cheesy  I usually kick myself if I miss a football game or some event.

Anyway, how was main event?  Is it worth watching?  I'll try not spoiling the details on myself by reading the per round reviews if it's good to watch the replay.

Edit:  By main event, I mean Nunes vs Shev.

It was a feeling out process for majority of the fight. Things really only got somewhat "heated" in rounds 4 and 5. But, overall very tactical fight, some might call it boring but, that's what tactical fights are.

From a neutral perspective it was a quite even fight and could have gone either way. But knowing UFC, in-order to dethrone a champ if the fight goes to distance you need to out perform them significantly and Shev definitely did not do that. Nunez was the aggressor the whole fight and deserved to remain the champ.

Fight #3 is most likely, unless Shev goes down a weight class.

eh the borg fight being canceled didnt really ruin the card the JDS vs Francis N. did i was looking forward to see that fight more than the DJ fight

JDS vs Francis Ngannou was definitely one of the fights I was looking forward to the most.

Demetrious Johnson is receiving a lot of accolades, he's ranked #1 on many pound for pound lists. Many consider him to be the best overall MMA fighter actively fighting. It seems like he's gotten a bit jaded. Its strange how he's the champion and seems less happy with his place in things when he's being paid much more than most. I think maybe he doesn't appreciate how lucky he is and so I won't miss him not fighting.

Ray Borg is supposed to have a viral infection. I wonder what type of virus he is infected with.

They say that its weight issues, other news says its virus infection. Its not clear though was is the real reason. Yes, Dana White is very pissed off right now because of the cancellation of the main event.

For me, Demetrious Johnson is really the best pound for pound right now. The only problem I see is that he really don't get as much exposure as those big guys that's why you may feel that he is disappointed and frustrated. But if he really wants to step up the plate then he should move up in weight and challenge the big guys.

Even i was looking for Francis Ngannou fight the top dogs and how he could fair against them and certainly JDS was the right choice and on Demetrious Johnson getting all the accolades is because he is so talented that he is not having a good fight in that division because he is above the rest of the competition and the problem he has is with the payment he receives as a champion compared to others,he is not a big draw in the box office and so is the reason for that disparity .

This is my bet.

Demetrious Johnson (26-2-1) vs.  Ray Borg (11-2) (Flyweight Championship) --> K.O round 2 for Borg
Amanda Nunes (14-4) vs.  Valentina Shevchenko (14-2) (Women's Bantamweight Championship)
I think Nuñez will win this fight. Nuñez is like a man. A knockout artist. So i will go for Nuñez for 1st round knock out
Neil Magny (19-5) vs.  Rafael dos Anjos (26-9) (Welterweight)---> For Dos Anjos (unanimous)
Ilir Latifi (12-5) vs.  Tyson Pedro (6-0) (Light Heavyweight)--> Pedro (unanimous)
Jeremy Stephens (25-14) vs.  Gilbert Melendez (22-6) (Featherweight)-----> Melendez 2nd round

The main event will be a good fight. Johnson "the mighty mouse" is reigning for a long time. He should give way for the others.

Borg out

Going to have to get a prop bet on over under fights canceled.

Ouch!

Yeah their fight has been cancelled. As a result, the Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko will now headline UFC 215. I think this is the second time that Borg has cancelled the fight because of 'health' issues but I think that there might be underlying causes that's why the fight has been cancelled. Too bad I don't think that he will have a chance again to fight for the belt. He will be lucky if UFC will decide to just re-scheduled this fight again sometime. Its kinda suck for Demetrious Johnson as well, after preparing for this fight and just be cancelled just a few days. I hope that Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko will live up to its expectations though and not be a snoozer fight.

Dana White must be so angry at the current events. Borg being out and then ruining the main card is an issue already, but he has been forced to go against his own words and put Amanda Nunes on the main card. He said Amanda Nunes would never be in a main card again, and now here we are.

The UFC is being a disaster. I can't no longer count how many main cards have been ruined so far. Jon Bones Jones vs DC has been ruined a million times, Tony Fergusson vs Khabib, Amanda vs Valentina was cancelled too, Bisping GSP was cancelled too.. it never ends.

Im not paying mch attention to this to be honest. I don't want to pull an all nighter too often anymore to watch fights live because it screws up my schelude. Im improving my health lately by going to bed earlier and screwing this up every weekend to go to bed at 7 in the morning to watch the fights always resets this. I will do an exception for GGG vs Canelo next week of course, but im not seeing this or putting any money on it. I will watch it somewhere the day after.

Oh and I just saw that Borg was out, so the card will probably suck now.

I might take some bets on the undercard when the odds come out.

Thanks for sharing.  I know RDA is better but isn't this is first bout in WW?  Don't you think the bookies are giving too much value for Magny?  I would appreciate your thoughts about that.

And as usual...  More vids to make you confused on who to bet on!  As krach would say, be sure to have already made your bets before watching these videos.  They're more for promotional purposes than for helping you figure out who the winners are.

More notes.

-Ketlen Vieira is a brazilian wrestling champion & decorated amateur wrestler. She may not be as famous a wrestler as olympic silver medalist Sara McMann but Vieira should be a good enough wrestler to not be completely dominated. Ketlen Vieira fights out of Nova Uniao, the gym Jose Aldo trains in. Her boxing and skills are very good & she's definitely the toughest opponent Sara McMann has faced in a long time.

-This will be Sara McMann's fight fight training out of team alpha male(gym). It will be interesting to see improvements she might have made.

-This will be Gilbert Melendez 2nd fight after testing positive for steroids. Some claim steroids have negative long term effects on cardio.

-Out of the 10 women who were on the Ultimate Fighter, Ronda Rousey vs Miesha Tate, reality show Sarah Moras is one of the 4 women who were on the show that is still fighting.

Hey guys, changed the original post to the one with more info.  That hopefully gets you up to speed and may it help you in making your wagers.

And finally we're here again to a proper event in the UFC.  But sometimes I feel like I'm still in a Conor McGregor hangover.  Didn't care much about sports in general after that.  Lol.  Grin  Anyway, here's the UFC Countdown video for the 215.  Enjoy!

There's no thread in this section for UFC Fight Night 115 Alexander Volkov vs Stefan Struve which is on september 2nd 2017, about 3 days from today.

If no one makes a thread, is it ok if I do it?   Huh

Also there have been multiple Dana White's Contender Series events on tuesdays. The last event of series 1 aired yesterday. Not certain yet if there will be a 2nd follow up series sometime in the future.

@joshy23. I read an article that Daniel Cormier is already planning his future, and the move to heavyweight is in the picture. He said that it will be easier for him because that is where his natural weight is. He is also mentally strong, I doubt the loss to Jon Jones would have destructive effect on him and his career.

There's footage floating around youtube of Daniel Cormier saying "he would never fight at 205 again" after he almost missed weight in his fight with Anthony Johnson in New York. That was the event where some criticized DC for holding onto the towel when he stood on the scale.

DC's last few weight cuts appear to have been extremely difficult for him & that's likely the reason he's thinking of moving up & fighting at heavyweight where he won't have to worry about dieting or a weight cut.

Yes, he is an Olympian and I don't think the lost to Jones will be a mental barrier for him. He his a total warrior and mentally strong. I'm sure he will be back. Heavyweight was the first division that he really competed in. I was surprise to find him in LHW, although it has something to do with Cain Velasquez being the champion at Heavyweight that time and he doesn't want to fight him as we all know that they are training partners.

I absolutely wanted him to fight in Heavyweight as I'm seeing that division as somewhat pretty weak right now. And he could probably reign their as well.

@joshy23. I read an article that Daniel Cormier is already planning his future, and the move to heavyweight is in the picture. He said that it will be easier for him because that is where his natural weight is. He is also mentally strong, I doubt the loss to Jon Jones would have destructive effect on him and his career.

Junior is out of UFC 215 because he was caught be USADA for using steroids once again according to MMA news sources. They are now trying to search for a new opponent for Francis Ngannou.

With a lack of clear choices for a replacement, who would like to see Daniel Cormier fight versus Francis Ngannou on October?

This is very damaging for Junior Dos Santos. I think he should be banned since this is not the first time that he was caught cheating. Brazilians are known for using steroids and too bad JDS was caught again. I don't know if DC will be ready by October though, I think the lost from Jones is still in his mind as of today.

More notes.

I think this will be Rafael Dos Anjos 2nd fight training out of Evolve MMA gym. RDA used to train at King's MMA under Rafael Cordeiro but left for reasons unknown.

Sarah Moras funded part of her training for this fight at gofundme.com. I think she's the first UFC fighter to do this, although Chris Camozzi asked for bitcoin donations to fund some of his previous training camps.

Sounds interesting. I haven't heard of it actually. Its this legal though? I mean asking for funds from others? I thought those guys/gals has some backing from other people when they enter the Octagon? I guess I'm wrong then.

Ok my picks for this:

Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko: Shevnchenko wins ending Nunes win streak and late unstoppable confidence.

Demetrious Johnson vs. Ray Borg: Johnson wins. You can't crack that big alien skull, too strong. He doesn't have many KO's, but so doesn't have Ray, I think split decision for Johnson.

Dos Santos vs Ngannou: Ngannou is ready to retire Dos Santos. You can ever overlook Dos Santos but his prime is over and this Ngannou guy is slick.

I have no idea about the rest.

Dos Santos is clearly in it for whatever money he can scrounge from the UFC now.  He has no chance against getting a rematch with Miocic for the time being and it's doubtful he can beat Ngannou.  I guess it would be safe to say that he's just a gate keeper in the division now?

As for Nunes, hmmm...  Make it 2.25 and up and I'll put money on her.
Time has caught up it seems with jds though i'm.not counting him out just yet. If he loses this time then it would be safe to say that its over for him. Hoping for the best for him anyways as i've been a big fan of his from back in his heydays

Pretty stack up fights for me. Interesting to see Gilbert at 145 lbs. He is in a losing streak and he says that he has injury in his knees that requires him to be out of over a year. His opponent is no push over as well,. Its gonna be exciting to see this Stephens and Gilbert banging it up. I'm picking up Gilbert.

On the other hand, Junior dos Santos vs. Francis Ngannou, Francis is riding a winning streak as well, he last defeat Arlovski and he is taking another ex-champ here dos Santos. I think Junior dos Santos has seen better days. So I'm going with Francis this time.

Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko - Too much hype already on this one. Amanda pulling off in the last minute was not good for the fans. I think Valentina will be the favorite here. So I have her winning just for the heck on going on a 3rd fight.

Demetrious Johnson vs. Ray Borg - Borg is a solid young fighter, but I think Johnson has all the tools in his toolbox and will be able to take advantage of a somewhat limited fighter in Borg. Johnson is like Jones, have a hard time picking against them due to them being able to win in any style and proving time and time again that they’re the best in the business. Johnson easy picking.

@krach. Yes, after what Amanda Nunes has shown in the her last UFC, Valentina will surely be the favorite this time. Odds for her right now is -109. I speculate that it will not get better than this.

Amanda Nunes pulled out of the last scheduled fight with Valentina Shevchenko claiming her sinusitis was too bad for her to fight. I've never heard of sinusitis before Nunes mentioned it. Can't say if its a valid excuse for pulling out.

I think this will be Gilbert Melendez first attempt to fight in the 145 lb weight division.

Henry Cejudo and Wilson Reis being on the card could mean one of them will fight Demetrious Johnson for the title if Ray Borg is injured or pulls out. Sara McMann could also step in for either Amanda Nunes or Valentina Shevchenko if one of them is injured or unable to fight.

Many interesting match ups on this card.

Hey guys, this will be the thread for UFC 215.  The event will be on September 29, 2017 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.

Small correction: the event will be on September 9th not 29th.

UFC Fight Night Stefan Struve vs Alexander Vokov will also be on september 2nd.

Im looking forward to see the Amanda Nunes vs Valentina Shevchenko    fight. The last time, Amanda Nunes said that she was sick. Dana White didn't believe it, and he said she will not fight as main card or something like that. We will see what happens.

Also good to see Junior Dos Santos fight again, but The Predator is a very dangerous guy, he will go for the KO for sure.

Would like to see the winner of Johnson vs Borg in a big fight like vs Cody Garbrandt.

Other

- Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos was expected to face Francis Ngannou, but on August 18 it was announced that he was pulled from the card after being notified by USADA of a potential doping violation. He was flagged after an out-of-competition drug test conducted August 10. Dos Santos tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide and his team is currently working on testing 2 supplements as a possible source for it. In turn, Ngannou was removed from the card after promotion officials deemed that a suitable opponent could not be arranged.
