Coach Justin Buchholz says that Cody lost has something to do with cardio issue:

Quote
Dillashaw also mentioned how Garbrandt may need to fix some technical issues in his game, but according to Bucholz, it is also a conditioning problem.

https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2018/8/8/17663018/ufc-justin-buchholz-cody-garbrandt-loss-tj-dillashaw-ufc-227-cardio-issue-mma-news

I'm assuming that the doesn't get trained very well for the second fight, or his back is still nagging him. Gonna be interesting to see him switching camps and leaving Uriah Faber.

^  So it's looking more like Dillashaw made the right decision by leaving Faber's team for a better one.  His two victories vindicates him.  I think the second match vindicates him even more cos I wouldn't really be that surprised if Garbrandt wasn't trained well to face Dillashaw.

Garbrandt should switch camps now...

This is a good Cody vs TJ post fight breakdown by BJJ Scout.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9mothnNP94

I didn't realize Justin Buccholz left Team Alpha Male early in 2018. That marks the 3rd head coach Team Alpha Male has lost in a relatively short span of time. Martin Kampmann, Duane Ludwig and now Justin Buccholz. The excuse Martin Kampmann used for quitting was his family didn't like california and he wanted to move elsewhere. Duane Ludwig leaving the team was highly publicized on the ultimate fighter season of Urijah Faber and Conor coaching and so that split was ugly. Justin Buccholz quitting as head coach seems to have swept under a rug and kept mostly quiet.

There have been hints dropped that Urijah Faber is the reason TAM head coaches have been quitting. And there have been hints dropped that Cody Garbrandt wasn't training properly (maybe because of Urijah Faber) leading up to this rematch.

That's another angle to the fight which could be worth looking at. Especially if Cody Garbrandt's skill level declines noticeably in his future fights.

^  Could their history at Team Alpha Male be making Garbrandt more emotional than usual?  Dillashaw was Garbrandt's sparring partner, and there were times when Dillashaw would spar as if it was a real bout.  Lol.  There was a rumor that he hit Garbrandt so hard once during training and it KO'd him.  Cheesy

I think both of them had their own plans on how to beat each other's company. Garbrandt was a great fighter and I trusted how he performed so well with his career eversince he been lost from his previous bouts. The history was a part of his journey in UFC, let's start over and expect more surprising fights to come from them. Roll over the screen and let's await the excitement upon their fight will go further with their next fights.

The bad blood between Team Alpha Male and Dillashaw is really like a drama lol. I don't know what will happen to team alpha male, since their fighter can't win against Dillashwa. Garbrandt is a good fighter indeed but i think he can't control his anger and emotion, i think dillashwa know this very well and abuse it to win the fight vs garbrandt last week.

It was really a drama unfolding right in front on us. I don't know if its just stage or something but most of us bought it and like Cody being the bad guy here but it didn't went on his way. Dillashaw is not the only one who left Team Alpha, there are coach as well if I'm not mistaken. Same reasons, didn't agree on the direction or what's needed to be done. Let's bring Faber vs Dillashaw. hehehehhe.

Cody was very emotional and it really backfired on him. And perhaps TJ thinks that he is sparring with Cody that's why he is so relax in the Octagon. I think the rumor is that Cody KO TJ in a sparring and he even releases video of it prior to their first fight (its a TKO actually). LOL. But I guess what counts most is that TJ is 2 nil against Cody with a KO.

Wtf was that?  I was expecting more from Garbrandt.  He was just a sitting duck out there.  It was almost like he just gave up at the last minute and just went with it win or lose.  He wasn't really there...

He did exactly the same mistake as he did against Dillashaw on the first fight... you could tell his emotions got him carried away when he didn't touch gloves. He wasn't thinking straight. He failed to capitalize on the damage he did to Dillasaw with a couple of good shots.

Exactly, the minute the bell rings, he is thinking of getting his revenge and try to knock out TJ. Unfortunately, TJ got the better of him again and I'm sure that he can't get over with that lose. But he needs to move on and continue, because he is still young. And TJ just closes the chapter and the rivalry.

I can't believe this guy slapped around none other than Dominic Cruz, he did great there, but he is just unable to deal with TJ. There will be no rematch anymore after two losses, it must suck as a fighter to know that you can't have another shot at the guy that beat you twice. It's a long steep road now for Garbrandt if he wants to be a main card fighter again.

Yeah, I re-watched that fight and I'm shock how Cody was in full control of his emotions and not pushing the fight. He even show us that the can play defense, however, none of them was evident on his 2 fight with TJ. And agree, might be a long road for him to go  on top again, but we hope he does because he is young and this lost might be a good lessons for him. (don't be too cocky).

Oh he'll be having no problems getting in main cards.  He's young and he can still claw his way back up and go for the title again imo.  That's if he's willing to sacrifice a lot of time away from his new baby...  Having children could complicate things.

Yup, It was later admitted that DJ has injured his leg that's why we didn't see any speed difference. Usually, DJ is very quick at his feet and was able to defend himself against takedown which Henry easily gets DJ at the floor, although we all know that Henry is a world class wrestler, but we can't disregard the injury as contributing factor for his lost.

After the fight Demetrious Johnson said he might have broke his foot and torn a ligament in his leg during his fight with Henry Cejudo. That could be why he wasn't moving as much or as well as he normally does in his fights. Have to wait for confirmation on that.

Dominick Cruz had a medical issue with his feet when he fought Cody Garbrandt. I think he's getting surgery to fix that. Cruz has had that issue for a long time. He had it when he fought TJ Dillashaw which is why those leg kicks of TJ had so much of an effect. It was worse when Cruz fought Cody Garbrandt. If that helps put things into perspective.

It was the take-down that won the fight for Cejudo. Demetrious was controlling the first half of the round then Henry would take him down and it might have won the rounds for him. It was really close up to the last minute, he even didn't damage Johnson, but his takedowns did won him the fight and the belt.

Cody has no game plan at all, he stood in front of Dillashaw and trying to look for the one big shot that never come.

^  Could be.  But sh*t.  I wanna see Garbrandt vs Cruz now.  It could be one of a couple of things.  Either Garbrandt is overrated or, yeah, he's still with that back injury.  But it would be so irresponsible of him to train if he wasn't totally injury free.

Anyway, he's young.  He'll be back.

Does anyone remember how hard to hit Cody Garbrandt was when he fought Dominick Cruz? Seems like his defense is so much worse whenever he fights TJ Dillashaw. Almost like Cody doesn't respect TJ's power at all. That could have cost Cody the fight.

What do you guys think about Mighty Mouse losing by SD?

I thought Henry Cejudo won rounds 2, 4 and 5. If Cejudo could find a way to improve @ riding people, controlling them on the ground & preventing them from getting back up, I think he could beat Demetrious Johnson decisively.

Not certain what Demetrious Johnson's options are. Hopefully there won't be another immediate rematch. I think its better if Johnson has a couple of fights before he fights for the title again. If they fight again in 3 months without either of them improving or changing much, I think the outcome will be the same and it'll be pointless.

And it's over! What a fast match for the main event, even Johnson vs Cejudo is more interesting that the main event lol. What a fight though, full 5 rounds fight and ended with split decision, Congrats for Cejudo for the new champion and Dillashaw for defending the title.

Yes, it was a split decision, however, some see it in favor of Johnson. But I see Cejudo taking the win tonight. One thing I noticed about Cejudo though is how is is very positive about taking Might Mouse out. Sure he lost the first fight but he vastly improved and that self-confidence was amazing. As expected, TJ again blasted Cody in just one round. One of the best bantams ever. Congrats to both of them.

Didn't notice much watching the weigh ins. Its been said Montel Jackson took this fight on two weeks notice. Late notice fights used to mean you'd bet on their opponent expecting them to not be well prepared. But lately the late notice hasn't made much of a difference & so that may no longer be the case.

Polyana Viana is gorgeous. Ricky Simon may have officially weighed 134 pounds which could mean he's undersized for his weight class.

Bethe Corriea fight is cancelled on Bethe's eye having complications after eye surgery.

I suspect Cody losing the 1st fight was bad karma. Team Alpha Male and Urijah Faber made up stories about TJ that weren't true. They said that TJ Dillashaw ended Chris Holdsworth's UFC career by hitting Holdsworth in the back of his head repeatedly in training. That was probably a lie as Chris Holdsworth said it wasn't true. They said other false things about TJ which could have played a role in Cody losing that fight.

There are probably easier fights to bet @ UFC 227 than Cody vs TJ.

No need to bet on difficult to predict fights when there are easier options.

It's more like Garbrandt got a little cocky after the first round and Dillashaw keeping it calm and focused.

I am rooting for gabrandt over dillashaw due to his record with only 1 loss over 12 fights. I know everything could happen in the ring but it looks like gabrandt is much tougher than his counterpart.

Fully agree.
Garbrand is a fucking legend. Every single one of his punches is devastating and has potential to KO the opponent. Extremely agile, fast reflexes, tough jaw, good cardio.
His only loss was against TJ and if you watch the fight again you will be able to tell who dominated throughout the whole fight.

Garbrandt will put all of himself to win this fight and he will make it because he's a winner.

TJD is also a great athlete, I'd say the best of the division right after Cody, but never as good as Cody. If TJ wins, it's because of a combination of luck and tricks. But the fundamentals are in favour of CG.
1.80 for TJ and 2.00 for Cody is a no brainer for me.

Anyone who intends to bet on TJD is welcome to do so, but I would strongly recommend to watch two fights before placing the bet.

Garbrandt has something to prove to the MMA fans so he will try his best to win this fight, however odds makers sided on Dillashaw to win this fight. I think this fight will last the full 5 rounds as both fighters will try not to be knocked down. Dillashaw will give his best effort to keep the title. I used nitrogensports to place my bet on Garbrandt.

He is motivated that's for sure. I rewatched the first fight and It Cody is really quick however TJ has a lot of weapons in his arsenal like legs kicks that did the initial damaged in round 2 made him wobbly until he was caught and TJ jumped on him. I don't think the fight will last 5 rounds though, they will still go at it with the intention of getting a KO specially Cody.

Cody Garbrandt said he had back issues for the 1st fight but took the fight anyway to pay his bills. I would guess his back is fully rehabbed/recovered now? We can see if makes a difference in the rematch.

I wasn't aware that Cody has back issues on their first fight. At least he has excuses when he lost to TJ. Hope though that his back is fully healed so that we can see a good fight and put up a good show.

People probably won't remember Ricky Simon's name. He's the guy who held a choke until round 3 ended. When he let go of the choke, his opponent was unconscious on the mat, then woke up. The referee called it a round 3 technical knockout. There was controversy over that.

I agree. It was really controversial end. I think Merab was ahead and winning the fight until that choke.

Bethe Corriea also likely wouldn't be remembered if she hadn't said something about Ronda Rousey's father committing suicide then been KO'ed by Ronda.

Corriea is already irrelevant. Ronda shut his mouth and it seems she hasn't recovered (so as Ronda).

TJ already shut that big mouth of Cody in their first fight. Problem though with Cody is he keeps on trash talking even after the fight. lol. But its good though, at least his making noise and putting a lot of drama that might be enough to put people to watch about this rematch. @bbc.reporter, probably Dana has this story board regarding this two, its going to be a good one, because there's supposed to be a "bad-blood", ever since TJ left Team Alpha Male. hehehe

I reckon Dana's storyboard for bantamweight will be if Cody wins, then him versus T.J. will become a trilogy and the loser of the 3rd fight will fight Dominick Cruz. If T.J. wins then his next fight will be versus Mighty Mouse and then the loser Cody will fight Dominick Cruz.

Also, Dana's main storyboard is for Dominick Cruz to return as a champion and let him move up to featherweight for a superfight versus Max Holloway. The UFC needs the money hehehe.
