In any case, some UFC sportswriters have already made comparisons on Adesanya as a young Anderson. I reckon if Dana can organize a Chris vs Adesanya fight,  he should promote it as the revenge of Anderson hehehehe.
Whoah! What an interesting headline :O. But on the negative side, is it unfair that we always compare Adesanya to Silva? I mean, if I'm on the position of Adesanaya and hear such words then I might get upset because I think that you only respect me because you see the young Silva in me and not my own self. You are just treating me like a copycat of a great fighter and never impressed with my own way of fighting (just my opinion Grin).

Hmm, instead of Revenge of Silva, for me it is better if they change it to Revenge for Silva.

It appears that Dana might have a new opportunity to create an exciting storyboard in the middleweight division. Chris Weidman has been tweeting that he was not impressed in Israel Adesanya's performance. He also said that he is overrated.

Israel did not look like anything special in this match - showing a lot of respect for Hall of Famer Anderson Silva.
If he is to fight Whittaker next, it will probably be a 25 minute punch and run match.
Hope this will happen this year if Whittaker can get healthy.

^  Yup.  I think Adesanya has the skills to hold the MW title for years imo.  And he's just what it needs.  A charismatic guy, a good talker and with the skills to back it up.

While watching Adesanya vs Silva fight, I can't stop myself from thinking that Adesanya's fighting skills is like Silva's when Silva is still in his prime. There was even a meme about Adesanya kicking Silva but missed and Silva kicking Adesanya and missed as well. Looking forward for another fight of Adesanya. This guy have a long way to go.

With the kind of surgery he had, i am not sure he will be back anytime soon, he might need atleast four to six months to fully recover, he was not competing for almost one year after the brutal fight with Romero and Romero did not fight either, that fight took a lot out of both the fighters and now the unexpected surgery
Gosh! What an unlucky Whitttaker but at least he showed to us the he still want to fight despite of the hernia injury. However, that was not an advisable decision at all that,ls why the fight postponed. Props for Whittaker for being courageous.
i think there will be an interim title on the line if Israel Adesanya can fight in the next few months against Kevin Gastelum and the winner gets the champion.
Okay, it that will be the case then that's great. I think there would be no problem at all since Adesanya's fight against Silva didn't give him a lot of damage. I guess Adesanya is now on his road to 17-0 Grin (just my prediction).

Chill dude, let's just wait for match to happen. I'ts pretty obvious that Gastelum is the underrated here but I still do believe in his talent. Remember that he will not come up to this point if he is not deserving Smiley.

Anyway, I'm really disappointed on the postponed fight of Whittaker and Gastelum, but well, the health of Whittaker is at risk so it was understandable. I hope he get well soon for their match to be rescheduled as soon as possible.

^  Sucks for Gastelum.  I think Dana White should do the right thing and let Gastelum fight either for the title vs Whittaker asap or let Gastelum fight Adesanya for the interim title asap.  It should be good for everybody involved either way imo.

Robert Whittaker was pulled out of the fight because of a hernia in his abdomen. Kelvin might not have another opportunity to challenge Robert Whittaker after this, I reckon. Dana has said that the winner of Anderson versus Israel Adesanya will be for the no.1 rank in middleweight.
The winner will also clearly be Robert's new challenger.
It was a really unfortunate situation at the very last moment and Kevin Gastelum should get the rematch as soon as he is fit and ready and then eventually they will meet again, with Israel Adesanya winning the fight over the legendary Silva and Adesanya wont be facing anyone until Kevin Gastelum and Robert Whittaker face each other most probably in UFC 236 because the 235 card is staked with super fights and there is no space to fill this fight.

Ok, it looks like the injury is very serious;

Quote
“He’s in the recovery room with his wife and his family,” White said. “This is one of those freak accidents where the doctor said he’d literally never seen this type of injury in a young person. This usually only happens to old people. His bowel and his intestines poked through the hole and it didn’t happen yesterday after the [weigh-ins]. They think he had this problem and it’s been going in and out.

https://www.mmafighting.com/2019/2/9/18218787/dana-white-if-robert-whittaker-hernia-acted-up-during-ufc-234-fight-it-could-have-been-fatal

So Adesanya vs. Silva will moved as main event. We don't know how long will Robert recovery from this injury though, so this division has open lots of possibilities. I saw some interview the Gastelum has the belt already. So its going to be Gastelum vs the winner of Adesanya vs. Silva.

Anyone else think the 29 year old young man puts a hurting on the legendary Anderson Silva?
I see it coming and in ugly fashion even though people forget Silva did TKO Nick Diaz -  although overturned for dope
I do expect a great battle, this is the only fight in Anderson Silva's career where he is not worried about any take down from the opponent and no one stopped Silva in his entire career even though he lost a couple from Chris Weidman and first one he was mocking around and got caught, other than the fights he lost ended in full time, it will be interesting if Silva pulls guard in the first round, expecting a great technical fight between the two.

^  Heh.  I hope not cos Whittaker vs Adesanya would be epic for MW.  Oz vs NZ.  Wink
It will be an interesting match up between the two if Israel Adesanya could live up to the hype and win the fight against Silva, they have to fight in Australia to see big numbers in pay per view rather than in the US for this match up.

I predict that Kelvin Gastelum might get 1 or 2 lucky punches that will knockout Robert Whittaker within 3 rounds, I reckon.

I thought Robert was unfairly bigger and taller than Kelvin. The press conference showdowns showed that he was not, however.

Also, the skills. Is Robert Whittaker much better than Kelvin Gastelum? I reckon maybe, but the difference in skill might not be as high.

I thought I see a 2 inch difference in height? So Robert is taller. I don't know mate, I predict that Whitaker has seen the video of the fight between KG and Bisping and will play defensively in the early rounds. And wait till KG tires out and go for the kill.

@eaLiTy. Chris Weidman was never a top fighter, I reckon. He won 2 fights from Anderson, 1 by knockout because Anderson was stupid and the other broke Anderson's leg by accident. Chris would never win if was fighting the best version of Anderson.

Agree with you dude.
Weidman had his moment to shine holding his belt until December 2015.
Remember though "THE ALL-AMERICAN" ended his career record 1-4 and lost all those 4 by KO.

As for the main event, Robert Whitaker have shown that he has the balls to fight the best in his division (including two against Yoel), but I wonder why Dana White has pass Weidman though, or maybe the winner will fight Chris next. Robert is the champ so we may call his great fighter for achieving that.
Hope you are not following Chris Weidman and his fights, after loosing his belt to Luke Rockhold he lost against Yoel Romero, Gegard Mousasi and Ronaldo Souza and you think that Dana White did not give him the title fight  Cheesy you have to win fights and earn the shot, by that theory Artem "The Goat" Lobov should fight for the title every time he steps inside the cage.  Grin Tongue

Yeah I know, Anderson is cocky as well but he has the tools to back it up, until that Weidman fight, Lol. I watched Israel against Derek Brunson, he has the talent as I have said it reminds me of Silva himself, but he still needs to learn a lot if he wanted to stay long and be a champion.
Israel Adesanya might be a new kid in the UFC but he is a really experienced fighter who has more than 100 kick boxing and boxing fights under him , his striking is on another level as well as the timing and movement, his ground skills are to be seen as he never faced a great wrestler yet, he got a good defense but that is to be seen if he will be tested in the ground.

First of all thank you for all of these amazing topics with links and all that, it is great help and sometimes even reminder.
I can't believe Anderson Silva is still fighting, he is 43 years old for Christ sake, nobody should fight until they are that old, it must be really bad for your body. He is not even that good anymore, he only won 1 fight out of his last 6, one of them was actually a decision to him but he tested positive for some stuff but in the end he is really too old for this.

Just like any other fighters who gets old, they wanted to fight because they wanted to prove they still have it, and wanted to stay relevant in the fighting business. But as you have, he's no longer that Anderson we know specially after he was caught with peds in his system.

I doubt he can continue with this for too long, hasn't he made enough money to just retire? Why is he punishing his body at this age? About the title fight, it looks as if both guys are not really anything special, they are not bad fighters for sure but they are not great neither, it will most probably be another boring title fight until we get some exciting one.

There's no doubt that Whittaker will be the huge favorite here. But this is a interesting and compelling matches. Robert as I remember broke his arms against the Romero fight so it will be a huge factor in this fight, this the hands heal already? This fight is still 50/50 specially that Gastelum doesn't need to cut weight which is one of his biggest obstacles. I wouldn't be surprised if Gastelum pull a surprise here.

I think Whittaker will win by late stoppage. No disrespect to Gastelum but Robert has fought one the best in that division, not only once but twice against Yoel Romero. He is in the zone right now and can be seen as unbeatable.
Hmm, we can't easily underestimate Gastelum. He prove to us that he is also not a weak fighter that's why he now have a shot to become a new champion. Remember, he knocked out Michael Bisping Cheesy. Smells a fight woth full of surprises. (Honestly, I got surprised with his winning counter that time)
Interesting to see Adesanya vs Silva. Israel is like a copy cat of a young Anderson, but Israel is very cocky. So let's see how Anderson will perform against this prospect.
When it comes to the style of of knocking out their opponents, I'll go with Silva. For me he is like a child playing with his yoys every time he fights because I can't even see the stress in his face, just chilling. However, he is now old so you can't blame me if I doubt him for beating Adesanya.

I definitely agree that Anderson should retire at this point. He is already past his prime and there's no need to damage his reputation by fighting again. He don't need to proved anything and he is no longer relevant as new and upcoming fighters are rising. He is just being used as stepping stone.
