I think I've heard about some athletes requesting bonus payments in Bitcoin before. For example, there was a case in 2019 with Russell Okung tweeting about wanting to be paid in Bitcoin and becoming the first NFL player to be paid in Bitcoin in 2020. There's also an article on Medium (with relevant sources) about athletes getting paid in Bitcoin.
So it's certainly not the first case, but any such case is a nice little advertisement for Bitcoin.

I'm not sure what everyone here thinks but I have to tell you that Renato Moicano, the UFC dude tweeted that he wants his 300k bonus in bitcoin.

Now besides beating people up in the Octagon, the guy knows his money stuff. I think it is cool to see someone from outside the finance and tech field talk about bitcoin. It might not be groundbreaking but I am going to be cheering on every new person who supports bitcoin. I am hoping that down the road we'll see more UFC fighters getting paid in bitcoin, either in full or in part.

I don't care to know if he wants to get paid in BTC or not, because my concern is how he has made himself an open target for hackers and scammers of all sorts, who want nothing but a share of his bonus $300k pay.
Am sure he does know his money stuff, but these days, I don't think Bitcoin is much of a secret anymore, because even countries have begun regulating and accepting it and allow citizens and companies to use it to pay for taxes.

Renato Moicano unique request of wanting a bonus paid in Bitcoin amounting to 300 thousand has attracted the attention of investors and Cryptocurrency fans in general. Renato Moicano's request cannot be separated from his knowledge of Bitcoin and has considered all the advantages of Bitcoin compared to fiat money. His awareness of Bitcoin's function as a hedge against inflation made him not hesitate to hold more Bitcoin because over the years the purchasing power of fiat currencies had deteriorated due to inflation.

Bitcoin fans are certainly very happy with Renato Moicano request, indirectly he has introduced Bitcoin to the wider community who so far have not been open to the existence of Bitcoin. Indirectly he has also taught many things to Bitcoin fans, never be afraid to hold Bitcoin even though it is very closely linked to volatility because volatility is a key factor that drives the asset value to increase.

IIRC, there was an athlete that signed a contract that he'll receive his salary in Bitcoin. I think that athlete is in football but I can't remember the name and maybe the articles published before are there covering his story.

Maybe you are referring to, What happened to Odell Beckham Jr and his Bitcoin contract? Superstar WR could be left with less than chump change after crypto crash.

But this article is obviously old, and that Odell could be dancing by now as we hit a new all time high a couple of weeks back and we are now entering a bull run.

As for Moicano, it's his bonus that shall be in Bitcoin and that's a good decision for him to make use of his Bitcoin and put into Bitcoin rather than spending it for any other thing that might just lose its value.

But the difference there is that he might enjoy that expenditures but still, if you're for the long game in investing and you want to have a better life in future, choose to invest.

For sure, he has studied about Bitcoin or could be someone advising him to take in it BTC and perhaps just be a long term holder or at least next year when we are in a eventual bull run and so he can make a lot of money from his bonus.

That's an amazing request because he can just accept the money and invest in bitcoin instead he chooses to ask it directly and that is a record for him in love of bitcoin and with this he surely received our respect and thankful .
wishing that with this tweet he will encourage more UFC fighter and of course other sportsmen to accept bitcoin in some part of their money .

It's good to see that people not in any major field that is related to BTC, and people with influence, have shown interest in BTC and it can be a big catalyst waiting for other people to join in on the fun. It can be part of the growth that we are waiting for and to see how it will burst out in the coming months/years.

I do hope we get more rally up in the target areas like $100k

I don't think he supports Bitcoin, he wants to get his money in Bitcoins because to promote himself. He is a fighter, he won the fight and tweets on X that he wants money in Bitcoins. Media will see that tweet and will publish articles about how UFC Fighter demands his prize to be paid in Bitcoins. If you type that you want 300K bonus in cash or on bank account, no media will write an article about you. That's just my personal opinion but I would also love to say that even if he doesn't support Bitcoin (I think so), it still is good for making Bitcoin popular because there might be some of his fans who will hear word Bitcoin from this tweet and will get interested into it.

You might be correct. However, on what is happening in the country of Brazil, I speculate that what he said during the interview on learning about Austrian economics and Ludwig Von Mises is real. But if he is not really promoting bitcoin, what he has said in the interview will make many people research about bitcoin and the cryptospace. This will certainly help pump our investments hehehehehee.

In any case, in Brazil it appears that there are speculations that de Moraes intefered with their election. These occurrences are causing people like Renato Moicano to speak.

Late last night, the Judiciary Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives released over 500 pages of confidential Brazilian court documents relating to censorship demands on X, formerly Twitter. The Committee had obtained them from X through its subpoena powers.

The documents show a single Superior Electoral Court (TSE) Justice, Alexandre de Moraes, demanding permanent bans on over 150 elected officials and journalists. De Moraes demanded these bans in secret processes, without explanation or means of appeal, and across social media platforms. Given the dependence of elected leaders on social media, these demands for bans may constitute electoral interference.
In one case, De Moraes demanded that all major social media platforms, including at least one, Twitter, which did not publish the offending material, ban a federal Congressman, Marcel Van Hattem. The TSE had claimed that Van Hattem had criticized the election results. Not only had Van Hattan’s video not been related to the elections, but it was also a criticism of the Labor Department. It was released one day before the election.

In many ways, Brazil’s sweeping censorship system is unique to Brazil. Brazil’s Censorship Industrial Complex is located in the judiciary rather than in the executive branch, as it is in Europe, in the European Commission, and the U.S., in the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, National Science Foundation, and other agencies.

Glad to know that a famous personality is trying to grab some bitcoin since for sure that what he do will create a lot of exposure to bitcoin. But hopefully he know what he ask to have since if he's just been hype by some thoughts that its easy for his money to multiply if he choose to have it in form of bitcoin then maybe the problem will start there. But if he already know how to handle his bitcoins then can able to use it anywhere then its really fine since this give plus points for bitcoin to be known more by a lot of people around the world.

Yeah its really cool to see that its been mentioned by a fighter since maybe it adds different perspective that anyone can have it and they just need to research so that they gain knowledge about bitcoin.

Based on Moicano’s political beliefs, he seems to distrust government and doesn’t like policies which print money uncontrollably. Considering that many top UFC fighter’s base salaries are not that high to begin with, it makes perfect sense why he would be concerned with his savings being devalued and would want to keep some of his wealth in Bitcoin, which cannot be manipulated by the government.

He is not looking at Bitcoin as a way to get rich quick. He is supporting Bitcoin because of its decentralized nature and sound money properties.

Not the first athlete though, and as far as I can remember, UFC is open with crypto, as early as 2018, they carry Litecoin logo in the Octagon,

https://blockmanity.com/news/litecoin-ltc-logo-to-be-featured-at-ufc-232-litecoin-foundation-to-drive-crypto-adoption-at-ufc/

And again, there are a lot of sports personalities that are into crypto and so with that, I'm not surprised that Moicano wanted $300k worth of BTC from Dana White and he could HODL it for this bull run.

I'm happy to see that the guy supports Bitcoin and want to get paid in Bitcoin. It's a positive contribution to the community of the Bitcoin because fans of that fighter will also consider Bitcoin for payments when they hear that their idol loves Bitcoin and want to get paid with it instead of fiat. It leave positive impression and I really think that guy is doing a great job.
We have seen many of these sportsmen go bankrupt because they lack financial education. Some of them invested in businesses that failed after a few years, while others wasted their flamboyant lifestyles. Renato Moicano's asking to be paid in Bitcoin shows that he is knowledgeable about the prospect of the currency as an investment. The Brazilian has about 79,200 followers on X and 40,000 followers on Facebook.

His preference for Bitcoin will be viewed by most of his followers and who knows, some of them might have an interest in Bitcoin. Other sportsmen might also start showing interest in receiving payments in Bitcoin and someday we might have prize money for winning the UEFA Champions League paid in Bitcoin  Smiley.

It appears that his net worth is $2 million[1], which is not a large amount for an average wealth of a middle-class person or a fairly wealthy person.

For most people, someone who has $2 million is definitely a rich person, not of course like some famous people who have hundreds of millions or even billions. If you would convert that amount into BTC, you would get about 33 BTC at the current price, and I think that 99% of the people on this forum would retire with that amount right away.

I don't know much about Renato Moicano, but he talks about the bonus and not the basic salary. Mostly, the bonus is only used for entertainment or investment, and since leaving it in the form of paper money may lead to a decrease in its value, investing in Bitcoin is a smart move.

lol, he didn't win any bonus at UFC 300, the winner from the bonus was Max Holloway. And holloway not only wins 1 bonus, but he also wins 2 bonuses for a total of 600k. Moicano knows Max won those bonuses playing clean and he even sent a message to Max saying "Huge congratulations to Max Holloway... 600k bonus he absolutely deserves!!!".
So, if he wants a 300k bonus in Bitcoin, first he needs to win that bonus.

The man just used the opportunity to promote Bitcoin a little, and if one day he wins the bonus, he clearly wrote how he wants to be paid. However, I think it's much smarter to invest in Bitcoin yourself without raising a lot of dust - because if you get $300k, isn't it easy to transfer that amount to an exchange and buy BTC?

From a security perspective, it is not wise to tell anyone that you are your own bank, because thieves rob banks, especially if they are located in private buildings such as houses or apartments. However, perhaps the man is counting on the fact that his martial arts can deter the bad guys with such intentions💪

Just came across the name Renato Moicano for the first time and I had to go check him out and the dude is really vocal about Bitcoin. According to him, after learning about Bitcoin, he no longer keep his money in the bank, this should explain why he requested his bonus to be paid in Bitcoin.

The publicity is really nice for the community, while other crypto projects are paying through their noses to have their shitcoins endorsed by celebrities, Bitcoin is getting a free publicity. What else that needs to be said to convince people that Bitcoin is not a scam?

Bitcoin is one of options, receiving methods of many people, business owners, staffs, workers, athletes, politicians. It is cool to see celebrities show off their wanting and help to advertise Bitcoin more widely.

Their adoption is contribution to Bitcoin adoption globally and we don't judge that they do it with other hidden reasons but it's their individual concerns, not ours. We only care about increasing Bitcoin adoption, with time and at global scale.

These people are smart enough to say Bitcoin is one of things they accept, not the only option. So they will not miss any bonus, like Trump who opens for his political funds with Bitcoin.

In the best traditions, public figures pay attention to bitcoin only when the price of this crypto asset jumps sharply. This guy is no exception.

He should have asked for a bonus in bitcoin around the end of last year, when BTC was 2 times cheaper. Smiley He would have received a bonus of 10 BTC, not ~5 BTC.

Interesting point:
How will all these athletes (and others) who receive a salary (or bonus) in bitcoin pay their taxes?

It’s a good move by Moicano to have treated this as a currency, hopefully he might get his request granted or even go ahead to purchase it himself. $300k worth of bitcoin now is equivalent to almost 5 bitcoin, with the much anticipated bull run if he holds for long might see a 2x return of that amount
Moicano is not just like the average UFC fighter he is actually very smart and knows quite a bit about how money works. After one of his fights, even advice the audience to read about the Austrian School of Economics.

Assuming he doesn't already have up to 5 Bitcoins and is waiting for the forth coming bull market, I agree with you that he doesn't have to wait for his bonus to paid in Bitcoin because of the delay it may take.

I watched an interview where he mentioned Ludwig von Mises.

Me too, despite all the hostile groups' efforts to extinguish the light of bitcoins' popularity, you can find some celebrities ignoring them and supporting bitcoins instead. This is a good example of advertisement using your influence and this is how it should be for any celebrities that support bitcoins, they need to give it free advertising to increase its price further. But as we all know most of them won't do it because they want their assets as anonymous as they can to avoid some major problems like taxes or any other issues from their government.

Hmm that's quite interesting!
This is what he has demanded from the UFC, if he wins the bonus, then Moicano says that this payment should be given to me in Bitcoin. In fact he did not win. However, this is the best stance on behalf of athletes, those people are completely out of context with this field, i.e., Crypto, but they also know how famous Bitcoin is. And this is what makes people hate Bitcoin.

Seeing similar initiatives, it is great to see that Bitcoin is now at a stage where even strange people are eager to adopt it. But anyway Moicano has thought absolutely right, he knows that Bitcoin has already made its new all-time Time High although Halving has not happened yet. And after barely 3 days, when Halving will happen, the price of Bitcion can easily go from his current price to 180k to 200k at the end of the years, so he can get a good profit margin from bonuses if he is successful in winning bounes.

That's another great news, but let me confirm you that this is not the first second, or the third fighter asking for a bonus, as I have had a good time here reading a lot of topics, and I saw somewhere some female fighters also demanded funds in the form of BTC, in search of that topic I found many other articles as well which tells us how many fighters have shown interest in BTC. And I will be more glad about them because they adopted it soon as currently, they will be making 2x or 3x already. But that depends on there Buying price.

I still hope this dude will also make some good returns from his investment in BTC, besides I think there must be some taxation thing involved here too, like can anyone confirm they have to pay less or more tax in BTC or in Fiat.

These all adopted it in around 2022 and now I assume they would be in profits, but I am wondering if they adopted in 2022 then they might have bought high, well, still they be in profit but why they don't buy in bear.

He is just one athlete among many that I have heard supporting bitcoin and wanting to get paid in it. There have been older reports of US baseball and American football stars taking a part of their pay in BTC. They are thinking long-term, and understand that bitcoin traditionally goes up in the long run.

I think people are gradually beginning to understand what Bitcoin is capable of and it's benefits, also the bitcoin halving have been preached over and over by crypto influencer on the media and based on the benefits that comes with it, i think a lot of people are beginning to buy the idea of investing in it currently before the main halving event starts. And based on the current dip, celebrities, business men, industries would see this as an opportunity to acquire as much Bitcoin as they can to prepare for the halving. Michael Saylor has shown as an example. In one of his interview i came across, he mentioned that he'll buy more Bitcoin instead of selling, which is a very good decision for those who hodl Bitcoin as a long term investment. Although i know that some people out of fear would begin to sell their coins because of the dip, instead of buying more.

It is his gain really. Bitcoin is so big now that making announcements like this helps the celebrity more than it does the network. This tweet will get him more interactions on his social media than his previous posts and if his request is granted he will get an easy buy in to thousands of Bitcoin without hassling about where to buy them from. But he should get charged for the commissions needed to convert from fiat to BTC.

The thing is the recent sports men we have now are not like former athletes who you will see neglect the culture of investing, the athletes now have picked up the ball idea of investing just to have a financial stable retirement not like their predecessors who most at times ends up with nothing later.

Am I surprised about the inclination to bitcoin? I will say No because with all that bitcoin possess it will be hard for someone to have a research on it and not pick interest. I even feel like there are more athletes that have invested in this Bitcoin anonymously than they speak about.

They are thinking long-term, and understand that bitcoin traditionally goes up in the long run.

A perfect example of a good strategy is what Michael Jordan did back in his days. This, of course, has nothing to do with bitcoin, but it's just an example what can happen if you have a working brain. He had a contract with Nike, but only a part of it was paid out to him in fiat. He requested the rest to be in Nike stocks. Eventually, the stocks he was given ended up being worth 10 times more than what he would have earned in fiat.
