There's a UFC event in shanghai china tomorrow. Very late friday/early saturday depending on your timezone. I think it starts 3 am EST saturday. Posting here as these threads don't appear to see much action.

Background info on the event from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UFC_Fight_Night:_Bisping_vs._Gastelum

Quote
After previously contesting three events in Macau (a Special administrative region of China) since 2012, the event will mark the first that the promotion will hold on Mainland China.[1]

A middleweight bout between former UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and The Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen middleweight winner Kelvin Gastelum was expected to serve as the main event.[2]  The pairing was previously scheduled to meet in June 2017 at UFC 212. However, Gastelum was pulled from the bout after he tested positive for Carboxy-Tetrahydrocannabinol (Carboxy-THC) which is a metabolite of marijuana or hashish above the 180 ng/mL allowance by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standard.[3] In turn, despite having two months to secure an opponent, Silva and promotion officials confirmed on May 11 that he would not compete at that event.[4][5]

On November 10, it was announced that Silva had failed an out of competition drug test stemming from a sample collected on October 26 and as a result had been pulled from the card.[6] A day later, former middleweight champion and The Ultimate Fighter 3 light heavyweight winner Michael Bisping was secured as a replacement opponent for Gastelum.[7] Bisping had fought 21 days prior to this event at UFC 217, where he lost the championship to former two-time UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre.[8] Bisping was serving a medical suspension issued by NYSAC, but as China isn't under the purview of the Association of Boxing Commissions, he was allowed to fight.[9]

On November 18, it was announced that James Mulheron had failed an out-of-competition drug test stemming from sampled collected on November 10 and as a result he was pulled from the card.[10] His scheduled opponent, Cyril Asker, remains on the card and is expected to face promotional newcomer Yaozong Hu.[11]

A pair of promotional newcomers, Liu Pingyuan and Bharat Khandare were expected to face each other at the event. However, Pingyuan pulled out in November and was replaced by fellow newcomer Yadong Song.[12]

I don't have many notes on this event.

-If I remember right, Bobby Nash may have deliberately kicked his last opponent in the groin to give himself time to rest. I hope he can fight clean this time without fouls.

-Tim Kennedy beat Michael Bisping. Kelvin Gastelum beat Tim Kennedy. If Bisping can beat Kelvin he can avenge his loss to Kennedy to some degree.

-Muslim Salikhov may be the only dagestani fighting in the UFC who doesn't have a comprehensive wrestling background. I'm not 100% certain on this but it is a possibility.

Yup, but what did you expect...  These are filler events before the bigger ones.  There's one more next week with the main bout between Bisping and Gastelum.  Lol.  Then on we go to UFC 218 with the Holloway vs Aldo rematch.

Here are the results for this event.  Werdum says he deserves another challenge for the belt.  Nope, don't think so.  He needs to fight the winner of the Overeem vs Ngannou match first before he gets his shot imho.

As all the MMA media outlets says it is indeed one of the longest nights with majority of the fights ended up in a decision and in that four split decisions. Shocked
I am really disappointed by Will Brooks as he has lost three fights in a row after entering UFC and he is not ready for the big league ,i liked his fights in Bellator but he is not up to UFC levels and i am sure he will be released soon, with all the outside drama Werdum won a decision and his performance would not guarantee a title shot in the near future.

Just for completeness' sake, here's the weigh ins.  Anyway, was it just me or did the lines open with Werdum as the underdog?  I swear I saw Werdum open at 2.30 or something...  I think.

Fabricio Werdum hit Colby Covington in the face with a boomerang. There's video of it everywhere. Hope Werdum isn't pulled from competing.
If Werdum isnt pulled out in this event can we conclude that this is just to hype up the upcoming fight? At first I thought it was just a publicity stunt but looking at the comments and feedback in the social media, Colby Covington is really due to this kind of treatment and deserves more than this from Werdum. I'll go for Tybura over Werdum for this event. Tybura's fight history is great with 3 straight wins for the past 14 months.

Yup.  This card sucks so much, they need something to spice things up.  And with how Colvington trying to start a brawl against Werdum, I think everyone wants to be Conor McGregor, it seems.

Here's a video of what went on from Colvington's point of view.  There are other videos showing Werdum throwing the boomerang at Colvington's head.  Lol.  Hilarious.  Cheesy

@yugyug. I am not convinced with Fabricio's capacity to win fights anymore, especially after seeing him lose versus an Alistair Overeem without steroids. I know you can insist that it was only a majority decision, but it also showed that Fabricio's fighting ability is going down.

On the other side, the odds for Marcin Tybura is +275. I reckon that is more than enough odds for a younger fighter who wants to rise the ranks.

The height, weight and reach advantage are nearly identical but the age difference of 8 years will give Marcin Tybura an advantage but if we are basing on fight experience, Fabricio Werdum had face many notable fighters like Cain Velasquez, Junior Dos Santos, Antonio Noguiera, Alistair Overeem , Bigfoot Silva, Fedor Emelianenko and i am still in favor of Fabricio Werdum. He is now 40 years old the question is does he still in his prime or is he start slowing ? Let's wait and see on Saturday Nov. 19 who will win.

Colby Covington is running his mouth for a long time and these are professional fighters and if they are pissed off be prepared to take it too  Cheesy i have seen the video ,Colby is running away when confronted when he was a warrior behind the internet bashing everyone. Cheesy

It is a decent fight card and i am choosing Werdum to win this fight easily and then i am going with Will Brooks to win the fight, have to look at some of their earlier matches to understand the other opponents.

Notes on this event.

-This will be Bec Rawlings first fight @ 125 lbs. Previously she fought @ 115 lbs which might have been too much of a severe weight cut.

-Tai Tuivasa spars & trains with Mark Hunt. I've never seen him fight but he has 5 wins with 5 KO's. Could be Mark Hunt 2.0. Here's a clip of Tuivasa's 4th fight last year against Brandon Sosoli:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1oR7_EKvPKk (I haven't watched the clip, yet will see later)

-Nadia Kassem has an impressive record but her opponents records combine for 0 wins and 10 losses.

Oh, also there could be Bellator 188 tonight, nov 16th.

Other

- A heavyweight bout between the 2001 K-1 World Grand Prix winner and former interim title contender Mark Hunt against Marcin Tybura was expected to serve as the event's headliner. However on October 10, Hunt was removed from the bout due to "medical concerns". He had recently admitted in an article trouble sleeping and said he's begin to stutter and slur his words. The UFC released a statement claiming that "the health-related statements made by Hunt represented the first time UFC was made aware of these claims". They also announced that it would be required that Hunt undergo further testing and evaluations prior to competing in any future bout. As a result, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Fabricio Werdum stepped in as a replacement on October 10.

- The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption welterweight winner Jesse Taylor was expected to face Belal Muhammad at the event. However on September 13, it was announced that Taylor was pulled from the card after being notified by USADA of a potential doping violation. He was flagged after an out-of-competition drug test conducted August 22. He was replaced by Tim Means on October 11.

- Jeremy Kennedy was expected to face Alex Volkanovski at the event. However, Kennedy pulled out of the fight on October 5 citing a back injury. He was replaced by Humberto Bandenay. In turn, Bandenay pulled out of the fight on November 6 and was replaced by promotional newcomer Shane Young on November 13.

- Bec Rawlings was originally scheduled to compete against Joanne Calderwood at the event. However on November 7, it was announced that Calderwood withdrew from the event due to "undisclosed reasons". She was replaced by promotional newcomer Jessy Rose-Clark on November 8.
