Anthony Smith delivers a Submission, A rear naked choke over Volkan Oezdemir on the third round to win his third straight we can really see his toughness and guile on him that is why they call him Lionheart, A good display of heavy punches on Volkan who had a size advantage over him this fairly doesn't matter and win a shot over Volkan,

Well I am total speechless in their fight and really think Volkan could win because of their body mass disadvantage, I am fairly naive of this and totally forgets the lionhearts skill set and fighting prowess that leads him his victory and leads me to lose sight on whos gonna win in the fight But congrats to Smith in his good performance.

Here are the results of the weigh ins.  Johnson missed weight, but considering that he's taking this bout on a week's notice, we really can't blame him.

He was required to forfeit 20% of his purse to Lobov but Lobov wouldn't accept it.  Smiley

Volkan Oezdemir (205.5) vs Anthony Smith (205.5)
Michael Johnson (147) vs Artem Lobov (145.5)
Misha Cirkunov (205) vs Patrick Cummins (205.5)
Jonathan Martinez (135) vs Andre Soukhamthath (136)
Ed Herman (205.5) vs Gian Villante (205.5)
Alex Garcia (170.5) vs Court McGee (170.5)
Sean Strickland (170.5) vs Nordine Taleb (170.5)
Thibault Gouti (155.5) vs Nasrat Haqparast (156)
Chris Fishgold (146) vs Calvin Kattar (146)
Talita Bernardo (133) vs Sarah Moras (135.5)

Another in between game. This will not be as pretty as some other cards but at least we have some people who are eager to show themselves. Bellator has been consistent about sending their best to UFC so far and that is why we get to see people who fight their first fights (or one of their early ones) fight like hell, they are not new fighters, they are established and accomplished fighters who happen to fight somewhere else so far and get to UFC just recently.

Volkan and smith both has been amazing so far and I think it would be a great clash of experienced fighters. Volkan has fought against Dormier which is a great accomplishment even tho he lost, it is amazing to reach those levels considering the competition. Smiths latest fight was against rua and he gained the performance of the night with it. I still see Volkan as the favorite here but I do not think it will be a clear cut fight unless something unexpected happens.

^  The guy to look out for is Israel Adesanya.  He's extremely talented and fights a bit like Anderson Silva imo.

He's gonna be at UFC 230, the first match on the main card vs Derek Brunson.  Should be good as a win will be a step up closer within a match vs a top 5 guy then maybe a title shot.

Not a lot of notes for this card.

~snip~

Yes I see none familiar names names on the fight card, what I see are names that may have a bright future with UFC. UFC Fight Night is like WWE’s talent developmental system. They put new fighters, most of them unknown to see if there's potential. There are times there are familiar names in the fight card but very seldom. Dana maybe is hunting for another fighter than can be the next cash cow like Conor McGregor.

I reckon Dana should start scheduling fighters from team Conor and team Khabib to meet in the octagon in as many UFC fight cards as he can make them possible. Fight business hehehe.

Not a lot of notes for this card.

--Michael Johnson could be on a decline since USADA went into effect in 2015.

--Misha Cirkunov is on a 2 fight losing skid attempting to re-invent himself by moving to train @ Xtreme Couture MMA in Vegas.

--Andre Soukhamthath took a severe beating in his last fight with Sean O'Malley. The kind of beating where you worry if he'll ever be the same afterward mentally or physically. Hope he is ok.

--There aren't many women in the UFC who have a black belt in brazilian jiu jitsu. Most female UFC fighters are purple belts or brown belts. Talita Bernando has a black belt. Will be cool to see how much of a difference it makes, if any.

So...  Artem Lobov vs Zubaira Tukhugov would have been a very interesing fight as Lobov is part of McGregor's inner circle while Tukhugov is part of Khabib's.  But Tukhugov was pulled out cos the brawl at 229 as you all already know.  What a shame.

Artem said:  "If Zubaira Tukhugov Can't Return to UFC, I'm Happy to Leave and Fight Him".

Artem seems determined to get that fight anyway he can.
