What controversy?  The knee didn't hit Emmet's head imo.  It just grazed him at best.

And on Edgar beating Stephens in a rematch...  Let's wait for this weekend's event before making any analysis.  Wink

UFC 222 thread is up btw.

@tokeweed Regarding the controversy surround the win against Emmett ,i do think Jeremy Stephens wont be getting the title shot as we might see a rematch between them ,Frankie just made a bold move by fighting anyway without waiting for the Champion to be back .If he losses it will be hard to get back to the title contention because of his age.

Jeremy Stephens fought Frankie Edgar in 2016. It was a very close fight. I think Jeremy Stephens would murder Frankie Edgar if they fought today, Stephens improved a lot, Frankie doesn't seem to have improved at all. Frankie Edgar looks good when he can outwrestle Cub Swanson or Yair Rodriguez otherwise he's usually at a reach disadvantage and doesn't look impressive.

Not certain where Brian Ortega stands. He's a scary guy, that's for sure. There has never been someone like him in MMA who consistently loses the first two rounds on points then finishes his opponent in the 3rd round.
If Frankie Edgar faces Jeremie Stephens now,i bet he will defeat him again, the fight was not even close, may be the last round, other than that it was a complete dominance from Frankie, Brian Ortega has a legendary ground game ,both the fighters are having a black belt in BJJ and i think Frankie will defeat him.

I think Stephens could be next in line depending on how Brian Ortega vs Frankie Edgar goes. The UFC usually gives the title shot to the fighter who finishes their fights as they're viewed as being more marketable and exciting over someone who goes to a decision in fights that aren't crowd pleasers.

Does Jeremy Stephens' win mean he's in contention to fight for the belt after another bout or two?  I kinda wonder how he'll do vs either Ortega or Edgar...

There were some good scraps on this card. Andrade vs Torres should have received fight of the night. I'm surprised Alan Jouban vs Ben Saunders got fight of the night, neither of those guys looked very good. I think Jeremy Stephens and Ilir Latifi got performance of the night bonuses. That sounds about right, although I was hoping Sam Alvey would get a bonus for the way he looked to be in complete control and dominated his opponent.

I did ok gambling wise. Very surprising. Maybe I'll post my picks more in advance. Would prefer no one to tail me though. I don't want to feel responsible if anyone loses money following my calls.

This card really ain't that bad.  Too bad Barao isn't in the main card.
It is really disappointing to see Barao to slide down just like that,if you remember ,there was a time he was considered the second best pound for pound in the world below Anderson Silva ,when drug testing started all of those super starts faded away, really crazy how things change.
I am going with Jeremy Stephens in this fight as i think he has a better chance to knock Josh Emmett. I have to check the rest of the card once again before wagging .

Notes.

-I think Tecia Torres used to train @ american top team. Recently she moved to train with her girlfriend Racquel Pennington @ Elevation Fight Team. Elevation is where TJ Dillashaw, Nate Marquardt, Neil Magny and many other UFC fighters train. They're pretty legit and so I don't think this will have much impact on Tecia Torres but we will see.

-Sarah McMann also recently switched gyms and moved to Team Alpha Male.

-Some of these names have never fought in the UFC before. It might make this card difficult to predict although oddmakers have done a great job with their insider sources in determining odds of late. There haven't been the large number of underdogs winning their fights like there have been in the past.

-Josh Emmett is coming off a KO win of Ricardo Lamas. I think that KO was kind of a fluke. They both threw left hooks. Emmett got there first. It happens in a lot of fights. Carlos Condit vs Dan Hardy and Sergio Pettis vs Ryan Benoit are other examples of the same in the UFC. Both fighters throw left hooks. Guy who gets there 1st wins.
