i have tried sweeping the address by entering my btc address however i simply get 'its a watching wallet only'
You can't "sweep" a bitcoin address... as you've discovered that will show you the balance, but you can't spend it as you don't have the private key.

ah okay, so after thats done how would i go about moving my bitcoins off the cold storage to my exchange of choice?
If you goal is to simply get your BTC out of Armory and you no longer wish to use it... then I suggest you export your private keys and then sweep them into the wallet of your choice.

- Wallet Properties
- Backup This Wallet
- See other backup options
- Select Export Key Lists (then click "Export Key Lists" button)
- Select "Address String", "Private key (Plain Base58)", "Include Unused (Address Pool)" and "Omit spaces in Key data"
- All your addresses/private keys will be displayed

To avoid cluttering another thread with my big screenshots... you can see the pretty pictures here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.30229612

This method does not require Bitcoin Core to be installed or synced or connected with Armory... it is simply a method to dump out the private keys from your Armory wallet. Standard disclaimers about being careful when "exposing" private keys apply!

you're saying i should delete the current version of armory i have in its entirety? wont that be a risk to my coins or wallet?
No. Read again - just the databases folder. We do want you to upgrade to a recent version of Armory, however.

As PhoenixFire said, your coins will be fine. If you're truly paranoid, save your Armory data folder to a thumb drive or wherever you feel comfortable, preferably after deleting the Armory database. (If your version of Armory is pre-0.94, the DB will be huge.) The wallets are separate from the DB stuff, although Armory will take awhile to rebuild the DB once you restart Armory.

The version of Armory you probably have won't work at all due to Segregated Witness being activated. Install 0.96.4 RC3 (see the stickies), delete the database folder from your Armory data folder (see the btcarmory.com FAQ for more info), and run it again. If it still doesn't work, post logs.

Hi guys, created a wallet well over 4/5 years ago, recently recovered laptop, passphrase and private keys.

load up armory, cant send coins/see balance/unable to get online, i've tried to download bitcoin core client however it seems to be taking an eternity, i have had it on downloading past two nights

any possible way i can remove the entire balance off the wallet? there are numerous addresess on the wallet with varying amounts of balances in them, safest and quickest possible solution to remove them please?
