Ok... that confirms my suspicions... your fee was only 5.267 sats/byte.

ViaBTC TX Accelerator requires a "minimum" of 10 sats/byte. So you will be unable to use their free service to get your transaction confirmed. Sad

Given the amount of the transaction (~0.005 BTC), paying for acceleration using ViaBTC's pay service (0.01 BTC) or the pushtx.btc.com pay service (USD$71.81 estimate) is not really a viable option.

I have gone ahead and submitted this transaction on your behalf to AntPool... hopefully it will get a confirmation within the next couple of hours.

As "payment" for this, all I ask is that you to seriously consider this advice:

1. STOP using MultiBit Classic. It is old, outdated and no longer actively maintained and/or developed. Switch to Electrum
2. STOP collecting "dust" inputs to your wallet... DO NOT receive amounts less than 0.001... otherwise you are going to have problems in the future with massive fees! If you are collecting payments from faucet or mining, set your minimum payout to 0.001 or higher!

EDIT: And there you go:

May 12, 2017. sent a transaction with multibit and still is unofficial and is not returned to the wallet.
viabtc writes that a small Commission, but the Commission found the wallet.
You will need to provide the Transaction ID (TXID) for your transaction for us to investigate properly. Otherwise we have no way to figure out what has gone wrong with your transaction.

I think you are trying to tell us that ViaBTC is saying that your fee (commission?) is too low? But you are saying that it was MultiBit that selected the fee?

Being new to Multibit and Bitcoin I sent a transaction with a low fee before I'd even heard of setting your own fees. I assumed that was all handled automatically as in a credit card transaction. This was my first send from my Multibit Wallet. How a huge big red flag warning wasn't built into this software to avoid this issue escapes me. Obviously I have now reset the fee slider so this theoretically won't occur again.

This then resulted in a transaction that seemed to be taking ages, which I'd never seen before, and assumed a wallet error. So I used the Repair Wallet feature and the unconfirmed amount doubled. At this point I started researching the topic and found the appalling truth about the current state of the bitcoin network.

So now I'm thinking I have a double spend with both spends having the default low fee Multibit HD 0.5.1 installs with.

The transaction is:

https://blockchain.info/tx-index/89ba2ff1729a5716697a6c267bc4e491b943614dca5c0b9330a981cc6af096b3

I came across:

https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/

But never got anything other than 'Submissions are beyond limit. Please try later.' I think I've read double spends are not coped with anyway.

Questions I have:
1. Have I actually done what I think I've done as outlined above?
2. Can I send the remaining balance somewhere else or is my wallet effectively locked?
3. Is there anything I can do about this situation?
4. Why is there a 'Delete request' button greyed out on the payments page? Sounds exactly like what's needed.
5. Should I leave my wallet open as much as possible? Or keep it closed.

I've just tried rebuilding the wallet from scratch but it's just as it was with this unconfirmed transaction still being sent.

Any clues/help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all why you sent your bitcoins with that samll fee? We are seeing many threads here saying transaction stuck. Why don't you learn from others guys?
Please use this site to know the exact fees or at least the minimum/recommended fee https://bitcoinfees.21.co/

Also, Its very hard to put your transaction in ViaBtc accelerator the demand is so high that it get filled very early. You should thank to HCP who submitted your transaction now it will get confirmed soon. Good luck and next time please pay higher fees.

That never works.  I've tried submitting it on the hour multiple times over multiple days and it never worked.  Honestly, it just pissed me off that much more.

You're welcome...

NOTE: it has been around 6 hours since ViaBTC mined a block, so hopefully it won't be too much longer until they get another one...

Glidera failed to suggest a proper transaction fee, so I have a transaction that's been stuck since May 6.  Today is the first time I've opened MultiBit HD in 15 days, hoping that the supposed 14 day timeout on transactions means that my BTC would be returned to my wallet.  No dice.  Before, my BTC was at least listed as confirmed in MultiBit but now they don't even show as that.  I've run a repair in Multibit with no effect.  The problematic transactions are still listed as unconfirmed.  I can't double spend because MultiBit doesn't allow that.  I've seen pywallet, but it doesn't look like it works with MultiBit HD.  Is there any hope for me ever recovering this money?

Submit your transaction's ID to this website on the hour every hour until it says acceleration succeeded. Afterwards the viabtc mining pool will confirm your transaction in the next block it mines.

https://www.viabtc.com/tools/txaccelerator/

There are only 100 free slots an hour, and they are in demand. To stand a chance of getting accepted you have to submit your transaction exactly on the hour, not a few seconds later.

I'm really trying to find a way to cancel my transaction since the value has doubled in the intervening time.  It just seems only fair that I should be able to do that.  I also feel like this shouldn't be that big a problem.  I don't really understand what you did to resolve it.  Do you mean that you asked a miner to confirm it or something?
