Weird, Electrum doesn't use .dat wallet format, it's just plain file name like wallet_1 or wallet_default.

It used to use .dat extension before 2.0. The OP's wallet is an electrum one or he wouldn't be able to open it in electrum at all.

Could it be, that you've made another encrypted wallet and Electrum automatically selects the previously used wallet in every run.
Have you tried to look for another wallet file in the default location using "Open" in the menu or "Choose..." in the passphrase window?
Or browse to (for Windows): C(your Windows disk):\Users\(Your Username)\AppData\Roaming\Electrum\wallets directly and look for multiple wallets.

What happens when you try to send the coins to someone using the send tab?

i thought i did not put a password. but this does not work. if i put just something then the wallet tells me wrong password.

its only 0.00848848 BTC but it sucks that made me first mistake with my btc wallets.
How about seed phrase do you save the seed phrase? since electrum let you save the seed phrase first in the first time you made account you must save it elsewhere or in your notepad because if you don't have the seed phrase it would be hard to recover your wallet.
There's no way to decrypt the encrypted wallet I never heard someone success on decrypting a wallet.dat.

Anyway, check this btc recovery guide it might be help https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover

Electrum has two options; to encrypt the wallet files or private keys only. If you encrypted the wallet file, you will not be able to get into the wallet and view its content without a password. If you encrypted your private keys only, you will be able to see your addresses and transactions but you will have to key in a password to decrypt it if you are doing anything requiring the use of the private key.

What's the problem that you're facing?

hi there

i hate to ask this an i tried to find an answer.

i once crated a test-electrum wallet. and today i accidentally sent some btc to an address in this wallet. because each time i open electrum this wallet will be opened.

=> question 1: and i dont have to enter a pw. so the wallet is not encrypted?

but i dont remember the pw a i used.

=> is there a way to restore this wallet?

because the dat file is not excepted. but inside this file i only saw btc-addresses.

thank you.
