From the sounds of it you just have to be patient and careful sanding the plastic away, you've only got a few mm to shave off so shouldn't be to bad, try to keep it uniform though.

I've returned the connectors. I think im going to order off aluminiumwarehouse.co.uk

Hi, I ordered 5m 3/4" tubing. It was pre-cut down to the open rig measurements guide by Detritus. However, I have a problem. The elbow connectors are 20mm and the tubing is 19mm. But then the thickness of the tubing is 1.6mm on each side. So the inside length is 16mm. The connectors don't fit Sad I tried sanding, filing... everything. I managed to get one tube connector in but when i HAMMERED it in it bent a bit and the plastic sides shaved off. Does anyone else know how to sand the plastic tube connectors to 16mm? Thanks very much.
