I'm surprised there haven't been any Skynet comments yet.... I find it interesting that even the US government has been hit so hard by economic times that it is investing in gaming systems instead of specialized equipment to perform the same tasks.

EDIT: That article is also two years old. I wonder how far this project actually got?

PS3's only get 26.6 Mh/s

they are better at doing stuff like folding which is prob what the airforce is using them for

I agree that governments should in deed farm bitoins if they aren't already. The more that is farmed and sat on the closer to the cap we get and the more my bitcoin increases in value. Thanks for the feedback!

Another interesting tidbit on how to mod your ps3 to run linux for those interested in researching the usage of the ps3 gpu for bitcoin mining. This was written in 2008 and the os option has been removed from ps3 but in certain circles it's still possible to mod:http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/how-to/build-pc/4263321

The revolution will be monetized!
Governments are welcome and encouraged to make some money on the bitcoin network. Who will be the first?
If governments controlled the majority of hashing power, does Bitcoin become a fiat currency?
No more than Fort Knox has made gold a fiat currency. You will still own your bitcoins, not the fed. Governments are welcome to become peers like you and I.

Nothing better to do with PS3 after the lulsec fiasco lol......
Maybe lulsec was some inside trading to get those ps3's down a bit cheaper!!!!

Its only half obviouse bitcoins are the NWO one world currency....
Its amusing how they did it, got the Prepping / hippies to create the currency for them 0_o

Soon im sure you will see in good time, and everyone can preech there decentralized bullshit all they like but in reality if you have money you can own bitcoins by manipulating the market or simply mining the fuck out of everything with a billion dollar super computer... either way the reptilian demi gods still have the power....

Still im in on bitcoins for the long road for i know all i goto fo is keep 1 for 50years and they by that time it will be in the 0.000001 decimal place world wide single currency and i will be RICH!@!!!! MUAHAHA
Fiannly to be accepted into the inner sect's of the social ELEIT!!!!!!

.....Strange word, teraflop!!

I'm new to this site and limited to noob posts so I figured I would post here....

A little background on me first: I'm a freelance computer animator and game dev, I've been pioneering the mmorpg mob industry and other game assets of second life since 2004 and I'm now working with the Unity engine developing pc/mac/web based games.

Relevance for my post: A theory as to why the United States government will not be banning the use of bitcoins any time soon:

http://www.1up.com/news/air-force-building-supercomputer-2000 .

I found this while researching the xbox kinect for mocap use and I was unclear at first as to why they would need the gpu usage outside of combat emulation but it may have been needed to farm virtual currency.... Just a thought, criticism is welcome.
