U.S. government awards $10 million in cryptocurrency to track cybercriminals.

the U.S. State Department plans to identify cybercriminals supported by other countries by paying multimillion-dollar prizes to White Helmets hackers. These bonuses are supposed to be paid in digital currency.

such a huge bounty for people who can track down criminals in cyberspace, I think the US government is already annoyed by these criminals. if a $10 million reward in Cryptocurrency is given to people who can track down these cybercriminals then this news will spread all over the world and will have a good impact on all Cryptocurrencies.

Obviously, they will use this only for their political games.
Are you even surprised I mean that's the only reason they do this, for political and national security of the country. The people in the seat of power might be greedy and corrupt, they still care about their country not getting compromised by the other greedy and corrupt men overseas. Also, everything's political when it's the government that's doing the work.

Any articles that support that claim because I want to read the full story regarding this bounty that US Government has put on hunting cybercriminals working from other countries,
check the several posts above yours. other members have shared links related to the topic. you can pick which one you want to read or read them all.

Who would want to work with a government that also dispise cryptocurrency and then they are now using it to bribe the hackers who could trace hackers?  They'd gonna have a hard time looking for someone. But if they are now starting to use BTC as payment, thats a good.
I don't see anything wrong if they decided to use cryptocurrency as a reward. also, you'd be surprised that there will be hackers who'd take up this job especially if the reward is that huge.

Thats logical.

I don't think that US is openly despises cryptocurrencies, they do have unfair regulations though. It's not bribing, that's outsourcing that they're doing, this isn't anything new, NSA, CIA and FBI are using hackers to improve their technological capabilities.

I'm curious as to which digital currency is being used as payment by the US State Department. Perhaps it is just a digital US dollar and not really a cryptocurrency of their making? But it is interesting to note that even the US government is now beginning to make use of cryptocurrency.

Anyway, this is just a matter of the government making sure that new ways of attacking the government are properly responded to. In the online age, the country is not anymore just the land that it stands on; it now includes the online space. And law enforcement agencies have to keep up with the technologies as well. Ransomware attack is a new kind of aggression against which the country has to put up defenses as well.

It is only a matter of time until these approaches are properly enforced. Cyber attacks occur every-time but to see plans at the government level is something else - but should we be surprised by governments wanting to keep 'order' of a $2 trillion space? Perhaps, not!

In any case, this is an example of one out of many steps that would need to be taken to reach wider-adoption, and for this to happen appropriate regulatory measures need to be in place.

This is understandable. Cybercriminals who are supported by other countries such as Russia or China should be offered with juicy amounts. Otherwise, the US might end up having hackers who may be of less quality, less brilliant and less knowledgeable than the ones who are hired by other governments to disrupt the country. If this happens, enemy countries could easily exploit the weaknesses and intervene in very vital government affairs such as elections. The US should step up and build a very strong cyber defense system with no less than the best hackers out there.

Any articles that support that claim because I want to read the full story regarding this bounty that US Government has put on hunting cybercriminals working from other countries, this is going to be difficult though since they might not even find the service and the people that they might be tracking are good at hiding. Also, how will the US Government eliminate or neutralize this cybercriminals especially if they are working for a state that's probably a close rival or enemy of the state?

U.S. government awards $10 million in cryptocurrency to track cybercriminals.
There's more: They might "relocate eligible sources".

should the trackers ask for escrow?
Since they're dealing directly with the government, then I don't see the point in using one.

I'm curious as to which digital currency is being used as payment by the US State Department.
Looks like they would allow eligible sources to "choose" for themselves.

This is quite special news that greatly affects the credibility and reputation of the US government, if you post this sensitive content you need to have some convincing information because this is a very important matter. It will affect a lot of people, for example, if they find a cybercriminal and bring it to the US government to ask for a reward of 10 million dollars, then you are actually spreading information that has no valid basis.

The government of the United States has confiscated bitcoin, it has a lot of bitcoin and so maybe they could have "some" bitcoin for this type of offers, in any case the "money" ($) is left over.

This is not new, computer crimes have always existed and the rewards have been there even job offers for this type of individuals.

One of those confiscations and that according to the Treasury Forfeiture Fund will be used to fight crime:

Quote
This Bitcoin was seamlessly transferred to a government-controlled wallet, which, if forfeited, will be moved to the Treasury Forfeiture Fund (TFF). The TFF finances innovative law enforcement programs, like blockchain analysis tools and training, which will help agents identify and seize more illicit funds. Earlier this year, law enforcement agencies filed similar civil forfeiture actions against cryptoassets related to terrorism financing and North Korean hacking activities with the help of Chainalysis tools and investigative assistance.

The government becomes owner with one of the addresses with more bitcoin:

Probably the rewards would come from the ceased assets in their operations or something. Maybe this could be one of the changes that could "reduce" possible hacks in the future in the cryptocurrency space.

Maybe after this, they can invest in educating people on how not to get hacked.

This kind of some good news required and we can see soon many countries will show positive view to bitcoin and all digital currency.

This seems to have happened a month ago, and no one can be sure that what you are saying is true when you have not posted the relevant information. Obtaining rewards paid in cryptocurrency is also to help protect the safety of any reminder, and any source that provides information can get rewards if they meet the conditions. I think the United States is already implementing a series of measures to find ways to solve the network problems that exist every year.

found this one https://www.rferl.org/a/russia-ransomware-us-rewards/31361313.html

US accuses Russia of the cyberattacks recently which they said they have evidence but in the interview of Putin, they only cited reports from the media. Putin had also challenged them to provide evidence. US giving rewards to those who can track only shows they are not really sure of their accusation.

$10M will be a big amount that white hackers will really want to. should the trackers ask for escrow?

There are two different statements there.
1. "U.S. government awards $10 million in cryptocurrency to track cybercriminals." - so they have done so given the phrasing.
2. The other one, is "plans" as in the future.  So they have not done so, given the phrasing.

Probably an error in translation, the titles I've got that are similar are using the term "offer" so that's probably where the "award" comes from.
That being said, indeed there are multiple programs and the rewards are "up to" it doesn't mean you will get 10 million for it but it doesn't also mean the budget is limited too.

But both those articles are in fact talking mainly about a single reward that is currently offered, the one for information on attacks on US infrastructure, what they might plan for other crimes, well...are just plants to date.
https://www.state.gov/rewards-for-justice-reward-offer-for-information-on-foreign-malicious-cyber-activity-against-u-s-critical-infrastructure/

Today i read one blog from CNN about this that the US Government are going to give $10 million for information that can find malicious cyber actors to target critical US infrastructure. This news has been published on Thursday.

The reward has been up on the gov website for more than a month, so I don't think you can really label it fresh news. But yeah, it's true as you can see from the official website.

Though you don't provide any source link. And we can't verify your statement. But if this news is true then it will be my point of view on this.

Whats a big news on this. This is like an eye wash to the users of crypto. Us government has a strong point of cybersecurity world. The whole world know that us has the world most intelligent cyber security agency whom are always aware and working to track all type of cyber criminal. And in my opinion they are enough capable to do it. Then why government need to hire others where the teacker can be more dangerous because the cyber criminal has also fund to buy those trackers who will track cyber criminal for multi million dollar money. I think its can be another type of money waste eye wash. Can't understand a single time in my whole life about government any decision or step. Though what can we do now best wishes for those who are going to do tracking cyber criminal. A best wish to you guys so that you can be success and grab this multi million dollar.

Don't offended guys its just my point of view your point of view can be different. Thanks for understand.
