Cool! And the mystery has now been solved. Smiley

The US has now two manufacturers for small form factor btc miners: GekkoScience and FutureBit.

I've heard from those in the medium/large scale mining business that an American manufacturer is starting up.  Does anyone here know anything about this?  Obvious benefits to that have had reliability issues and unfeasible warentee options.

Yes that was FutureBit  Grin

I contacted a major repair center out of the states that we use.  They have heard nothing but the usual rumors.

Samsung could spend north of $10 billion to bring its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities to the U.S., Bloomberg reported Friday.

The semiconductor giant is reportedly investigating building a chip fabrication facility in Austin, Texas, capable of producing silicon wafers based on the company’s forthcoming 3-nanometer manufacturing process.

The ASIC mining chips are highly customized designs done in-house  by Bitmain, MicroBt, Canaan and Innosilicon. The designs are then sourced out to TSMC and Samsung for production.

This brings up another topic.  The chinese has leapfrogged us in technology, and we have yet to realize it... in the mainstream its something we talk about happening "possibly" in the future. But looking at the miners: asia is at 7nm (such as  the latest SHA256 miners, and 5nm coming?)... and we can't make our own medical masks. jesus... im afraid.  I feel like we are just a system of finance, laws/patents.

This is probably why Taiwan is such a hot button topic. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Intel, AMD, and others are all ordering from TSMC.

Im happy to share the any information on the the actual mining manufactorer, and mining rig information.  Anything to move away from bitmains.  i just am not sure how my employers would feel about quoting companies we are on friendly terms (that aren't mining manufactorers), thats all.

Do you have any info on the actual chips? All I can ever find online are things like "It uses a BM1387 for hashing" etc, but never any specifics about these chips. Were they designed by Bitmain, then sent off to TSMC for mass production?

I'm curious, as I just started playing around with VHDL and FPGAs, so I'm pondering doing a design as a hobby/side project.

Who is this reliable mid size industrial mining outfit?

It seems You are giving Us far less information,
than you are expecting Us to give for You  Cheesy

I'm more interested to see if any US based foundries get into the game for the chips. Texas Instruments, maybe? Seems like most US based foundries are firmly settled in the military/rf space.

On that note, does anyone have the data/specs for these Samsung 8nm semis being used in the latest generation of miners? I can never seem to find any specifics.
Any prospective US based miner manufacturer would have to bulk order these things, big time.

such foundries that are capable of 7nm, and fine tuned to produce at an acceptable yield isn't easy to build.  Intel isn't at 7nm yet are they?

I would love for that to happen, any non-Chinese manufacturer is welcome, not that I have anything against China, but the more the better, however, I wouldn't keep my hopes high, competing with Bitmain, MicroBT, Avalon and the rest of the giant Chinese manufacturer isn't easy by any means, we all know what happened to Obelisk, took them so long to build a miner, Inno made a much cheaper and a dozen times faster gear in little to no time.

If your sources are correct, I hope these guys will be able to compete in terms of price and efficiency.

No.  I got it from a reliable mid size industrial mining outfit that we have some relationship with that is well connected, and they are reliable.  I do not have such connections myself.  Nothing on asicminer value or anything like that... if they got their marketing right, they would post their machine on there to build hype and anticipation.  I just know that they use taiwanese/chinese made chips.

Hoping that some of you have more info.
