Makes me wonder if the US marshals secretly auction off illegal drugs.

Normally this would sound like bad news, but in this case its actually good news because this is bringing more publicity to bitcoin, and any publicity is good publicity. Even bad publicity.

This would be good news as it brings more public awareness about Bitcoin

Bad publicity is generally not good for something like Bitcoin.

I would not say that this would be bad publicity. It is not any different then the publicity that real estate would get from an announcement that a house is being sold by the US Marshals, only that most people know what real estate is, most people don't know what bitcoin is.

Whoever wins any of the 3k blocks will likely tumble their coins many times over.
I'm not so sure I would. As it is, they're a bit famous, and completely pre-laundered (for some definition of "clean").

But your identity would be associated with those specific coins. I believe that the US marshals need to disclose the name of the person who buys property at auction.

Whoever wins the coins is going to be a major venture capitalist with absolutely no interest in dumping or laundering money. How many neckbeards have 200 grand lying around just to even register to bid?
