the most profit margin option in gold mining is not the labour of the miners, its supplying the machinery/fuel
back in the days of the wild west the gold miners didnt always break even... but the pick-axe and dynamite salesmen always profited

You should be able to defend yourself when you think you are being taking advantage of by the whalers as the US.
In my own case, I will refer the position of the US here as a governmental entity who is in charge and position to decide what happens in the world because they holds the world power.
As as referred (government), they are fond of acting this way of harvesting where they don't invest.
Imagine government disclaimer to non resourceful commodities Such as lands, businesses and other unproductive sources of investments just because it is either non profitable or produces poor dividends (profits) but when they finds it productive and highily profiting then they (government/US) would bump in and takes over as general overruled.
That is why the poor regions does not have government attentions on then and no one cares about the state of the poor being while CNN takes up every inch steps of the riches for speculations.
