www.everbank.com is a US based online bank that allows holding Canadian dollar accounts (among many other foreign currencies).

Among other things I'm one of a million dual citizens who does business on both sides of the imaginary line and it's convenient to be able to handle Loonies and Greenbacks in one FDIC known institution. They also do metals trading and various other things.

You were looking for ideas, that's one I could think of.

I started the application but I don't meet the MINIMUM.

There is more to Bitcoin than bitcoins.
Do check with US banks about CAD accounts. Specifically, look for Toronto-Dominion Bank and see what they've got.

I have about $400 in CAD that I haven't exchanged due to my bank giving me some crazy unfair totally not true exchange rate ( even though they tell me they don't charge a fee ).
I'd be willing to exchange any amount up to that you want but I am not comfortable sending $400 upfront to a stranger.
I am sure your not either, and I am aware I am a rather new member.

If there is a comfortable way for us to do the exchange feel free to let me know.
I typically don't do these sorts of transactions online and am not sure how this would be done.

I could possibly link you to my ebay business, and msg you there to prove my identity if that would make you feel more comfortable in dealing with me?

Let me know because I have been looking for a better way to convert these funds as well, seems like we could help eachother out.

I was thinking it could be sent by courier to you.  My only concern would be cash going across border, even by courier not sure if it can be trusted.  It would be much better to send it to you from within the states, which I cannot do.  But if you can find a Canadian that lives close to the border they could cross over and send it from a courier within your country.

If i was looking to buy barrel fulls of CAD then that is an idea. I am only looking to buy a handful at a time since this is all i can afford at this moment.

Stupid customs.

Thank you for the help Smiley

How much Canadian cash do you need?  How close to the border are you?

I live in Texas and I was thinking of buying CAD a little here and there like I am with Bitcoin.

currency exchange rate is not cheap in those places
In fact, it's a downright fucking ripoff.

Do you have any other ideas? I am open to suggestions.

Exchanging BTC for USD and vice versa is pretty common now. How does one go about exchanging for OTHER currencies that are not their home currency?

https://www.cavirtex.com
https://mtgox.com/

These two offer BTC/CAD: http://www.bitcoincharts.com/markets/

How am I able to withdraw into the actual currency?

Oh, I thought you only wanted to do the trade not actually get the Loonies in your hand. My bad!  Cheesy

The management at the exchanges would probably give you a better answer. But without you making a run for the Canadian border, getting a US bank with a CAD denominated account is going to be a PITA. You can always find someplace (bank, intl airport, local exchanges) to trade USD/CAD though.

Well that's an idea. There is a currency exchange booth in the local airport but man you know what a PITA it is to find parking, etc. Well it is worth a shot.

Thanks for reminding me!

I don't think the local Chase bank carries the loon. Maybe I will search for currency exchange offices too.

You have been a big help. Thank you!
