EXCLUSIVE: FBI says John Boehner's West Chester bartender planned to poison him

DEER PARK, Ohio – Ebola, evil voices and the devil.

Those are just a few of the things a Butler County bartender cited as reasons he was going to kill House Speaker John Boehner this past fall, federal agents said.

Michael Robert Hoyt, 44, was indicted Jan. 7 on charges of threatening to murder the congressman in a plot police said included poisoning his drink at a country club.

Hoyt served drinks to Boehner for more than five years at the Wetherington Country Club in West Chester and was known as “Bartender Mike” to employees there.

Hoyt called police on Oct. 29, a week after being fired from the club, and blamed Boehner for his woes, police said.

Boehner's embrace of GOP rebels nudges House caucus to right

Quote
WASHINGTON (AP) — Die-hard House conservatives bungled a coup against House Speaker John Boehner but now look like winners, pushing Republicans farther right.

Rather than punish and isolate those who opposed him as leader, Boehner surprised many on Friday by embracing an immigration plan that's tougher than lawmakers had expected. It would block President Barack Obama's recent limits on deportations and undo protections for immigrants brought to the United States illegally as children.

The House is heading toward a vote Wednesday.

As the rebellious hard-liners celebrated, mainstream Republicans said Boehner's decision probably portends firmly conservative approaches to other issues. That would complicate life for some of the more moderate Senate Republicans and ensure fierce battles with the Democratic president.

Florida Rep. Richard Nugent, one of the 25 House Republicans who voted to oust Boehner, praised the Boehner-backed immigration plan.

We'll see at some point if this push to the right is for real or just smoke and mirrors. I have no reason to be optimistic until I see some action. Interesting times ahead not to mention what ends up happening in our bitcoinworld.

Boehner: I'm most 'anti-establishment' Speaker in history
Quote
After defeating a rebellion by 25 conservative Republicans this week, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) on Thursday declared himself “the most anti-establishment Speaker” in history.

“During my years here when I voted, I had the eighth-most conservative voting record in the Congress and it does pain me to be described as spineless or a squish,” Boehner told reporters. “But what pains me the most is when they describe me as the establishment.
“I’m the most anti-establishment Speaker we’ve ever had.

"Who was the guy who got rid of earmarks? Me. Who's the guy who believes in regular order? Me," Boehner continued. "Who believes in allowing more members to participate in the process, from both sides of the aisle? Me."

Boehner won his third term as Speaker on Tuesday, but with more defections from his own party than any Speaker in modern history. He chalked up the conservative opposition to widespread anger at Washington.

"The American people are very frustrated. They are frustrated in a struggling economy,” Boehner said. “This frustration that's out there, they need to take it out on somebody. They take it out on the president, they take it out on me. It comes with the territory.”

This happens pretty much every session of congress. It is no surprise that people are trying to replace Boehner as speaker of the house. This happened in 2012 and will most likely happen in 2016

Washington (CNN)At least two conservative hard-liners are now offering themselves up as candidates to unseat House Speaker John Boehner.

Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Florida, said this weekend that he won't support Boehner as speaker when lawmakers vote Tuesday, and offered himself up as an alternative. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, did the same thing on Fox News' "Fox and Friends Sunday."

"Well, we have heard from a lot of Republicans that, 'Gee, I would vote for somebody besides Speaker Boehner but nobody will put their name out there as running so there's nobody else to vote for,'" Gohmert said.

"Well that changed yesterday when my friend Ted Yoho said 'I'm putting my name out there. I'll be a candidate for speaker,'" he said. "And I'm putting my name out there also, today, to be another candidate for speaker. All people are welcome, unlike what some of the establishment people are saying."

His comments come as conservatives simmer over a 10-month government funding measure that both Boehner and President Barack Obama backed in December. Conservatives saw that measure -- in the wake of the GOP's major midterm election victories -- as the time to fight Obama on health care reform, his immigration executive action and more.

Gohmert's move comes after another Republican, Rep. Jim Bridenstine of Oklahoma, said that he'll be voting against Boehner as well. Bridenstine said Sunday that both Yoho and Gohmert are good alternatives.

"In my opinion, this vote is between continuing the status quo or moving in a new direction," Bridenstine said in a statement. "Members of Congress now have two good choices, neither one including a vote for the status quo."

This is where the new members of the GOP conference in the House can make themselves useful in reshaping the GOP brand  and not letting the status quo of the right do business as usual.
