Yup, the interface sucks, i agree. Using a client like multibit is suggested

About the second case, weird. If i close the client, change wallet.dat and start it again it automatically rescan it...

Hi everybody,

I'm new to this forum but first bought a few BitCoins a couple of years ago and was surprised that the usability of the (Windows) client hadn't improved that much.

For example, I thought I'd lost coins on two separate occasions in the last week, both times owing to "peculiarities" in the client.

In the first case, I transferred a small amount of coins from a wallet to another address (in another wallet) and, whilst the client correctly showed the small reduction in my balance, it didn't display the "new" address to which the "change" had been sent in the list of addresses in the "receive coins" tab.

So when I looked at the transaction on BlockChain, there was a mismatch....   BlockChain was showing my change being sent to an address I'd never seen before and which the client UI didn't list as mine....  really confusing (and concerning to a beginner)

In the second case, I transferred coins to a separate wallet and, a few hours later, restarted the Windows client with the new wallet as the wallet.dat.   Imagine my horror when my balance showed as zero - and remained at zero.   Restarting the client with the "-rescan" option sorted it out but, again, this behaviour is guaranteed to freak out a newbie!

Finally - switching wallets is really scary....  manually renaming files is a sure-fire recipe for disaster one day.... sure - backups can help but the ability to select a wallet file from the UI would be nice.

I'm not able to post on any other thread right now - hence the post here..... I'm sure these issues will have been discussed at length elsewhere but I have to generate four unique posts it seems so this seemed as good a topic as any....
