Thanks for the reply.

Just to make sure about the power, I am only running one erupter until i get it working how I want.

I tried your line, but it gives me the error: -G unrecognized option

---------------

Update:

-S bigpic:all   (instead of -G) worked for me.

FOR ANY NEWBIE...
Here is how I figured it out...
In all the different mining programs there is a help file.  BFG has an ASIC help file.  In it contains all the (tag) options

(tags are things you add onto your command line to get your device to work better... sort of like setting I (for intensity) between 10-20 )

ALSO a note on Zadig

I wasn't using it right.  I didn't know how to use it.  SO.. my fault.
Zadig wants you to go into the OPTIONS dropdown.  Then click LIST ALL
The list comes up and you have to REPLACE current driver with the USB driver listed there.

I hope this helps someone.  This took WAY too much time to figure all this stuff out.

I'm using BFGMiner with 15 USB block erupters.  BFGMiner needs the CP210x-VCP device driver.  Make sure you have enough power for the erupters (0.5A per erupter).  It is also a good idea to use a fan to keep them cool (they can get too hot to touch otherwise).

I'm using the following command line with BFGMiner 3.6.0:

bfgminer -o -u -p -G --no-adl --scan-serial erupter:all

This setup has been stable and runs continuously for days without a problem.

Alright!  That DID work.  It at least lets me know that the erupters are working.

I think that bitminter only allows you to mine in their pool though.

I was hoping to use coinotron.  Is there any miners LIKE bitminter but allows you to change the pool information?

Thanks very much by the way

Try using: https://bitminter.com/

It's GUI, graphic user interface, really easy setup.

Thank you for the reply.
Followed your steps.
First uninstalled the drivers again (with deleting the information)
installed cp210x VCP (this time it didn't tell me it already had a better driver)
Result: Same

Downgraded CGMiner to 3.5
Result: Same

All help appreciated

Sorry for the post here.  I am still a noob, so I can't post in the proper forum.

I have spent several hours working on this problem.  I have seen similar threads, but none that have come to a conclusion that would fix the problem I am experiencing.

I picked up some USB block eruptors 333 m.  I am running a windows 8 computer.  It is important to note that the usb devices install and are listed without a problem, in both the device manager and in the devices panel as they should be.  (Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (COM3))

(CGMiner 3.8.0) error USB init, open device failed, err -12, you need to install a WinUSB driver for -AMU device 4:7 failed to initialize (incorrect device?)

(BFGMIner 3.8.0) .rpc opens then closes automatically.

---
Things I have tried.
- I've installed zadig, CP210xVCP Windows, and the winusb driver.  Have done all sorts of restarting the computer after installing drivers.
- Have uninstalled the driver and checked delete the information box
- Tried doing these steps on another/older (xp) computer.  Results: Usbs recognised and installed properly, but the errors are the same in cgminer.
- Executing the command from cmd.exe
- Running in admin

I feel like I must be missing an obvious step.  Anyone ?

Downgrade to cgminer 3.5 - might help. I believe the driver you used to rename the devices to 'Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (COM3)' is used for bfgminer, not cgminer.

I wouldn't doubt that there is a conflict with the drivers. Uninstall all of them, then try again.
