Hey,
Thanks for the post. You raise some valid points but I think you have totally misunderstood the concept. The money being raised on indiegogo is not for the ex-offenders themselves. The money being raised initially is to set up a crowdfunding site that will give ex-offenders a platform to raise money for all sorts of different charity projects. They will receive no personal financial gain whatsoever.
The idea is that by being involved in these sort of projects they will feel a sense of personal satisfaction which in turn will reduce the chances of them re-offending.
The idea is most definitely not to line their pockets, but instead for them to work selflessly for the good of others. And the only reason the crypto-currency will be converted into GBP is so that indiegogo gets to take their fee and does not remove the project for accepting crypto donations.
I hope I helped clear things up a bit...
OK, so if I understand correctly, you will provide work in the form of community service to the ex-offenders. ??
If I get it right then it's not bad.
Will they volunteer for it or is it going to be an actual job for them?
Hey,
No we will not be providing work directly for them. Are you familiar with crowdfunding?
Basically the ex-offenders will use their own initiative to try and come up with creative ideas to raise money for charity. They will upload their projects to the site and hope that the projects are funded by the public. They will then use the money raised to carry out their individual charity projects or the money will be sent directly to the choosen charity.
Before any ex-offenders are allowed to post a project on the site they will have to provide identification which will be held on file incase of any wrong doing. Also all projects will be manually approved before they are published. They will also have to post updates of their projects progress and evidence of what the money has been used for.
If the ex-offender wanted to run a criminal or fraudulent campaign it would be a whole lot easier to do it on one of the hundreds of other crowdfunding sites that do not have these additional security measures in place and without advertising to the world that they are ex-offenders.
Nothing is totally full proof but we have tried to address the valid security concerns as best we can.
