Apparently there are still plenty of folks paying for their porn.

And I'd say a significant portion of them don't even realise it... They've paid $4.95 for a trial and are now unwittingly paying $39 per month for a site they never visit anymore.

Youtube like site are killing the porn download model. Now everyone moves on to live cam to monetize.

Yeah, that makes sense. I wasn't arguing for the profitability of any one sort of business model. Those cam sites are part of the porn industry too, as far as I'm concerned. It's a question of what's being sold, not how it's being sold.

Hardly what I would call a small market. Apparently there are still plenty of folks paying for their porn.

Not to be overly pessimistic, but the audience for Xtube here is *not* accustomed to paying for anything.  My entire generation (born in the 1990s) has the mindset of "why pay for pr0n when you can find it for free elsewhere?"  Of course that mindset can be extended beyond the adult market, but that's not really the point.

True enough. I've never paid for my pr0n either.

Point is, while members of this forum are probably willing to donate towards something they feel is a worthy cause, the Internet as a whole does not share this same optimism.  A bitcoin-fueled site of this nature could only succeed if one is first to market (like MadHatter).  After that, well, you've already exhausted your already-small market of consumers.

Well, according to Forbes, the porn industry grosses as much as $3.9 billion:

we need a Bitcoin xtube clone, where the viewers can donate to the makers of the videos that they like...  Grin  I think that would work really well, and would be natural for bitcoin.

Just have to find something that people would like that's not already being done.
I haven't looked at his sites yet so I'm not sure how diverse it is but I'm sure there's room for more.

I'm still toying around with doing some videos if I can find the right people but I might just go the route you are and resell. Seems a bit easier.

For startups you are always better off reselling/licensing content. The only drawback to licensing content is that it isn't exclusive.

P.S. Good sites, btw. Very professional.

Thanks! Best of luck with your endeavors.

I run bitcoinxxx.com, bitcoingayxxx.com, and bitcoinsextoys.com. I'm just reselling. All of the content is self-shot, and I don't own a dildo factory. I leave that work to China. Tongue

I'm sure you've seen them before. I was the first one to start running adult sites. They started off as a proof of concept really, but now I actually do sales on them every day.

P.S. I was also the first to demo a signup-less affiliate program that has since been copied by many other sites. It was yet another proof of concept. (No expectation of profit.)

Interesting, Mad Hatter.  I think adult sites (especially 'specialty' adult sites) have a lot of potential within the bitcoin economy. I was going to do a few fetish and extreme videos (all shot in HD and all unique to the site) but I ran into the problem of getting people to work. I put a few ads on Craigslist looking for non-pro adult models to create some content but got very few bites. The ones that did all wanted to be paid like they were Jenna Jameson or Ron Jeremy and totally didn't get the whole concept of 'upstart site'.

I wish. Tried that for a bit, hard to make work with Bitcoin :-(

Works fine for me. Wink My pr0n is profitable.

Then I hate you. lol
Seriously, what kind of pr0n are you making/distributing? New stuff or just reselling? I tried to do new stuff with webcam shows, products, etc. Just flopped.

It's a 'specialty' business and not one I feel comfortable discussing publicly. :-)

Hello Everyone,

I've used Bitcoin for a good bit now and finally decided to register on the forums and connect with other users. I run a Bitcoin-only business that's doing fantastically well and am looking forward to getting to know everyone.
