This might be a hot take, but to me, it really seems like the root of the spam, low quality or duplicate posts problem on the forum comes from the merit system. What was originally created to encourage the creation of high quality content has now turned into a way to attract spammers xD.
Most of them will try to get the merits they want, fail to do it, and give up. In the past, we used to have more of these bounty hunters who would find their way to technical bitcoin discussions. Just by reading one of their posts, you could immediately notice that they don't belong there. A quick look at their post history reveals that 99% of their posts are bounty reports and low-effort posts in altcoin discussions. Many needed a merit because campaign managers usually don't accept newbie ranks, hence their interest in suddenly write about Bitcoin.

I also don't understand why new or non established members feel the need to create those threads, when again, it's already been done countless times before. Anyways, I feel like I'm just going on a rant now, but I'm curious what other people have to say about this.

The hurt for merit that's what comes to my mind. When newbies or even already established members see similar threads getting appreciated by meriters, they too want to do something like that to receive the rewards. That's just human nature (following the blueprint that works) and for the ignorant ones, they're just too lazy to search if something similar has been done before so they just go ahead and create another compilation that the forum doesn't need. Just report when you encounter them and the moderators will do the needful.

If you believe it's a useless thread, you should report it and let the moderators decide whether to delete or lock it.

If it's a duplicate thread, you should report it as well. Everyone does not check if a similar thread regarding the same thing is available. For example, a similar thing was discussed a few days ago, which you can find here: Why There Are So Many Premier League 2024/2025 Threads In Gambling Discussion? Why are so many gambling discussion threads getting locked? but you also created a thread.

When a thread creator opens a thread, they usually do not check if a similar thread is available. Especially for those who have been there for a couple of months or did not explore the forum well, I understand it is a problem for a newbie looking for a help thread. But there is not much the moderators can do except lock them.

I trust our moderators and their speed in deleting useless or duplicate help threads that either has been repeated or is to be qualified as spamming.
I can't help but think though, isn't it possible that two different individuals may create similar threads or topics with identical story line and it won't be considered spamming?

Well, people will always try to cheat or test a system to know if it has flaws and am sure that with the constant moderating and organization of this forum, there won't be a hiding place for such useless posts to breed unnoticed.

For now the only thing you can do about this recent spam attacks with multiple created threads all with aim to either scam, phishing and the rest of the other attacks on members of this forum, just stop looking at you telegram notifications bots for now, and also online open link's that you are mentioned and not new topics.

At least untill we see a permanent solution to combat this spam attack, you should at least take personal responsibility to protect yourself from being bombarded with Spam thread's notifications, the moderators are already doing a great job by deleting and banning those users

Because they either don't know how to search or are simply lazy enough to ignore search or know all these things but want to create threads to get merit.
Yeah most of them are only to acquire merits, then have a line like "idk if someone made this already but here's mine..." or similar, well some threads just needs bumping but most of them have outdated lists, error images and needs fixing, so creating new thread and someone similar/duplicate is pretty normal.

The reason why they keep creating those threads is that they do not do proper research before starting any topic. Although for a newbie who is not invited by another member, I meant one who just stumbled across the internet and found his way here. I expect such persons to make such mistakes because most threads are relatively what someone would think if they first come to the forum. The only solution to this is if in the process of creating an account in the forum, there should be an onboarding showing the rules and regulations at first glance and what to do and not what to do.

For a large forum like this, I don't expect so much though.

Maybe those members might think that such type of threads may help them in gaining some merits. There's also possibility that they might be not aware that the same topics were created by someone else and there's no need to create it again. I'm not sure about the exact reason that why those members are creating those duplicate posts but for me it's not a good habit and the ones who're doing it should stop doing it. But to be honest, it's not really possible to track each new member and tell them why they're creating topics/threads which were previously created and thus it's better to let it be the way it's right now.

I have noticed the duplicate posts and have been guilty of this too. I try to lock the thread once it is pointed out. Also if a supposed duplicate thread has a new information and the OP is concerned about bumping. Aside this duplicate threads always attracts criticism and it is no fun at all. However, I don't think it is going to stop because newbies will keep doing it.
However, there is a few new user I noticed to have been spamming the forum with same topic, of which it seems moderators have been deleting those thread, be but they keep reposting it via using a different account as shown below
This is so annoying. You'd receive a notification of 40 new posts on your telegram only to check and see that it is from a group of spammers or definitely a bot. This is an attack on the and I really wish there was a way to block them out permanently even before they hit the post button. What they don't get is that no one is going to fall for this cheap trick .

Failure to use the forum search feature has been one of the major reasons why people make duplicate threads on the forum of recent, and I'm happy the community has always been active in that aspect, reporting such a duplicate threads to moderators to be either locked or deleted, which I think is the best approach that should be done on any new thread reported and proven to be a duplicate of an already existing thread on the forum. However, there is a few new user I noticed to have been spamming the forum with same topic, of which it seems moderators have been deleting those thread, be but they keep reposting it via using a different account as shown below

Those who enjoy receiving criticism on their topics about the imperfection of their eyes, hands, or mind will regularly create such topics.
Most often, those who rush to announce their arrival in the forum are not newcomers, and if so, they disappear as quickly as they arrived.
Dig into the history of posts of those people who have been on the forum for a long time. They practically do not have such stupid statements about their arrival. Since people who are interested in information on the forum are independent, How do people cope with searching on the Internet? What is difficult with searching on the forum?
However, those who answer topics from feeble newcomers also spread spam, filling dozens of topics with the same answers while posing as people ready to immediately come to the rescue.
But everyone understands that such answers with the same links are the most common filling of the quota signature.
And as long as there are answers, such topics will be created.

This is definitely not a big issue, but I'm thinking it'd be cool to have a single, collaborative space where this information can be compiled, I see no point in having 300 different threads like that.

There's not many solutions I can think about for this & I'm not sure if this has been pointed out before but I've been lurking the forum a lot and I noticed there's countless threads made by relatively new members which seek to compile resources / forum rules, the thing is, by making a single search query, I found a ton of these kind of threads, not only made by new members, but established ones as well. This is definitely not a big issue, but I'm thinking it'd be cool to have a single, collaborative space where this information can be compiled, I see no point in having 300 different threads like that.
