Any decent web wallets?
I dont like the official bitcoin wallet.

Don't trust web wallets. The best is blockchain.info but yesterday they were hit with a huge DDOS and no could access there coins. Stick with the official bitcoin wallet, it is trustless, and that is why you hate it. Convenience over security is never smart.

What about using the Ripple wallet?

Ripple wallets are just for ripples, and it is centralized at some points of the software, I wouldn't keep that many bitcoins on the system.

I'd say use the default client; the only downside is the initial blockchain download size.

I’m trying to teach a friend how to use Bitcoin securely using backups/cold storage, but know she is not going to want to play around with wallet.dat files.

Does anyone have recommendations on user friendly wallets that make backups/cold storage easy???

Thanks,
Lina
