simply create a new Electrum-LTC wallet, move all your coins to that AFTER the fork, then use the private keys from the original wallet to claim the LitecoinCash.

That way, you only need to move your LTC once... and as an added bonus, you don't need to use Exodus Tongue

Thanks for the tip! I never knew how to do the private key/transfer thing. I usually claim the new forked coins by just leaving them on the exchange. Since i'm using the Electrum wallet, it's really convenient not to have to use another client.

Why would you need to move your coins around? Electrum-LTC (just like Electrum) gives you full access to your private keys...

On the "Addresses" tab (View -> Show Addresses), simply right click on the address you need/want the private key for... and select "Private Key" from the menu... easy! Smiley

Or are you saying that you can move the LTC to Exodus to put their LTC on a new private key, so they don't risk their LTC when claiming Litecoin Cash? If so, don't bother with Exodus... simply create a new Electrum-LTC wallet, move all your coins to that AFTER the fork, then use the private keys from the original wallet to claim the LitecoinCash.

You don't need to have a 2nd install...  Electrum allows a user to have multiple wallet files (You can even have multiple wallets open at the same time).

Simply go to: "File -> New\Restore" and create a new wallet... I'd suggest giving your wallets nice, clear, unique and descriptive names to help avoid confusion.

To re-open a wallet file after it has been closed, simply use "File -> Open"...

Note: By default, when you start Electrum, it will open the last wallet file that you had open (hence why it is a good idea to give them unique and descriptive names)

HCP:

In order to keep a new download of ltc electrum from overwriting an old ltc electrum installation so that a person can have two ltc electrum wallets on their computer, what steps do you suggest?

Can you give an order of steps to perform the operation of having two ltc wallets with different private keys in them on one computer?

Thank you

There were some mistakes in my first post that I have corrected.

Here is an idea.

A person who is holding their litecoin in their electrum wallet, could transfer their litecoin from electrum to an exodus wallet and after the fork, they could transfer the litecoin back to their electrum wallet.

They would use the litecoin private key they get from their Exodus wallet to obtain their litecoin cash coins in the wallet that litecoin cash provides its users.

since you said Electrum-ltc and litecoin is going to have a fork i am guessing what you had in mind was the Litecoin Cash fork of Litecoin.
in that case if you have your Litecoins in your Electrum-ltc wallet and you do have access to your private keys or seed and also if you have a balance before block #1,371,111 then you will have the 10x of that amount in Litecoin cash. you just have to find a way to access it through a different client.

as for the client, it will probably take a very long time or maybe never for an Electrum version of it to be released. they don't even have a full node client yet! there is no source code on their Github repo either.

here is the "reference" by the way: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/annlcc-litecoin-cash-sha256-ltc-fork-block-1371111-101-claim-ratio-2876538

I have heard that there will be a fork from Electrum to Electrum Cash.

Please tell us if the Electrum LTC wallet will support the fork and how to prepare the wallet for the fork.

Also, can I get the private keys from my electrum LTC wallet?  Is that possible?  Is that explained somewhere?

Electrum = Bitcoin
ElectronCash = Bitcoin Cash
Electrum-LTC = Litecoin

You mention three different wallet applications for three different cryptocurrencies!!?! Huh

Exactly what fork are you referring to and do you have any references? Huh
