Since he already has a wallet, I think that he will have to start Electrum, then File->New/Restore, Standard wallet -> ....

that is the route for only when you want to create a new Electrum wallet either with seed or an empty one where you can import the key into. OP seems to want to sweep his key which is the more secure option so he has to link his hardware wallet there, get an address and send the funds there from that key.

which will require creating a new wallet file. neuroticfish is right

To be exact, it's create new wallet or restore old wallet. Well, the best choice that the op has is what tryninja provided which is to connect the ledger to electrum before the op able to sweep his funds in the previous wallet. The steps when sweeping the funds that will be stored in new wallet and it may cost a miner fee.

Connect your Ledger, go to the Bitcoin app in the device, then in Electrum select: Standard Wallet -> Use a hardware device -> Next.

Connect your Ledger, go to the Bitcoin app in the device, then in Electrum select: Standard Wallet -> Use a hardware device -> Next.

Then, go to Wallet -> Private keys -> Sweep -> Paste your open dime private key -> Sweep.

With Electrum you can create as many wallets as you can. Just forget about the first attempt you made. Close the application and start it over again. This time use "Use a hardware device" instead of "create new seed".

What is this "open dime"?

And I think you got this topic in the wrong board. Since you are seeking help related to Electrum then I suggest to move it in Electrum section to get more exposure to the users who has good knowledge about your case.

Hi all . I have installed Electrum wallet ,so i can send bitcoin from my open dime . My slight problem is, i clicked on option to create new seed ,instead of option to add /connect to hardwear wallet [ my ledger nano s] .So , can i still SAFELY sweep private key of my open dime, then send btc funds to my nanos s ? There doesn't seem to be a way of going back and changing option ,on set up of electrum , to link to ledger..? Thanks for any advice. Smiley
