You might have a connection issue or your wallet might be a watch-only wallet.
This will make no difference to OP's issue.

Even if your wallet is watch only, you can still use the "Max" button, you can still open transaction previews, and you can still set custom fees. How else could a watch only wallet create a transaction to be signed by the matching full wallet on an airgapped machine?

they had to somehow integrate lightning into it. it's made the UI more complicated.

i don't find it slow though.

I tried to downgrade but for some reason the EXE won't run.
Because it's trying to open the last opened wallet but since it was upgraded to work for 4.0.3, 3.3.8 can't open it.

If you really want to downgrade:
  • Go to the wallet file's directory: default location/wallets
  • Rename the last opened wallet so Electrum wont find it.
  • Open 3.3.8, the wallet selection window should open, type a new wallet name and click "create".
  • Now, restore the wallet using the seed phrase because those previously opened wallets by 4.0+ wont work with 3.3.8.

Check the Electrum under this



If the wallet is in standard you should be work fine but if it show "watch-only wallet" then you don't have control of this wallet.

Do you have any backup of your wallet?
Try to import it again with Electrum and try again.

4.0.3 of Electrum is also works fine on my windows 7 ultimate.

What happened? It works fine at me and the "Max" sending button should be there.


Just go to the "Pay" button and click and you will choose either the fee rates in Mempool, Static, or ETA. And if you want to custom the fee setting just click "Advance". Everything works smoothly for me, the interface you've said will work fine too. Anyway, what OS you've used?

Otherwise try to check your internet connection and also the node of your wallet should be color green that indicates actively running.

There must be a valid address in the "Pay to" field before the "Max" button will become un-grayed.

If you go in to Tools -> Preferences -> Transactions, and check "Advanced preview", you get a better pop up box which shows you your transaction and lets you pick a fee. If you are sending "max", it will show you in real time how much "max" will be as you change the fee. You might find it preferable.

Anyone else really disappointed by v4 of Electrum?

Been using it for years. Worse upgrade.  The interface is slow.  The "MAX" send doesn't work at all for me (v4.0.3).  And the custom fee setting is now on that next page. And that Next Page when you send is really annoying and slightly confusing.  V3 of Electrum worked perfectly fine. I tried to downgrade but for some reason the EXE won't run. 

Anyone know why the MAX doesn't work?
