What's the deal on this? It'd be really nice to get xml back.

Can we make some changes to how signature campaigns are allowed to operate here as well? I wonder how much of the forum slowness is due to the increased traffic of hundreds of shitposters signing up with dozens of accounts each every day.
Posting and viewing topics (to a lesser extent) takes up little resources and is fairly easily scalable.

Any update on this? I could just parse the profile page and pull the info out of it, but that seems like way overkill for just getting some simple information.

2. action=.xml was totally disabled. I'm seeing some people request that it be reenabled, so I may bring it back up with stricter limits later.

Hi,

I was using xml feeds for my crypto news data aggregator. To be more precise, I was using 2 feeds (one for each of 2 subforums I'm interested in) and asking for data only once per 5 minutes per feed.

Taking xml feed down completely is a bit of drastic measure, it would be appreciated if you could bring it back (with whatever the limit you think is reasonable).

Regards

Also, can you restore the membersearch functionability? It was helpful in finding alts of bots and farmers and banning them before they even started to shit up the forum.

I totally agree with you. I think it should be looked into that a maximum of 1 or 2 accounts/ IP address. That would really cut down on the amount of alt accounts that are being used to bump threads as well as FUD and whatnot.

I keep seeing people ask about these things, so I'll summarize. A couple of weeks ago I made several changes to address forum slowness.

1. You now must be logged in to search.
2. action=.xml was totally disabled. I'm seeing some people request that it be reenabled, so I may bring it back up with stricter limits later.
3. action=printpage will no longer work if the topic has more than 500 posts. You'll get an error. If you used this for easily searching topics, note that the upper-right search box will search only the current thread if you're in a thread.
4. The 5-board limit on searching was removed.

In this and all instances where I remove functionality or impose limits, if you are prevented from doing something which should really be OK, you should describe your use-case in detail in a post to Meta (or a reply here). I may make changes.
