People have tried to sell BTC using this service.

However, it is easily reversible. This has resulted in people getting scammed hard. Venmo should never be used if selling BTC.

I don't think a social network based around payments would work

yes, its like "never let money come between friends"

people who are actually close that I want to send payments to; I set them up with a btc wallet and boom they are paid. introducing them to bitcoin mechanix is the second bird killed with the proverbial single stone.

people i know primarily from facebook/twitter/instagram...they are already cramming my feeds with entreaties to join their fundraiser/indigogo/kickstarter.

fuck them, fuckin beggers. No friends of mine! I foresee venmo becoming very quickly filled to capacity with nothing but.

This is the first I heard of it. I don't see the utility of it. These two things mean I'm practically a dinosaur.

Is it the social aspect that's so attractive, or is it a particularly easy way to transfer money that keeps them using it?

I have tried it. The concept is neat. It is social digital money.

I have just (belatedly) been introduced to Venmo.  I'd like to hear from users as to why they like it.  And if you could tell us your approximate age (under 30/over 30) too...
