You can power risers off Sata power. It's important to never use more than two connections per strand MAX. Since EVGA G2 PSU's have four connectors per strand, I would use a Sata splitter cable to distribute the load over two connectors and power up to two risers from each strand. You can also do the same with 4-pin molex connectors. MAX two connections per strand.

I use version 6 6-PIN PCI-E risers powered by a dual PSU setup that has all the risers and motherboard powered by the same PSU and the larger PSU only powers the VGA power inputs on the cards. Each riser uses between 45-50 W.
Awesome thanks. I'll see how they run off the 6 pin to sata with 2 risers per strand but I'll order those 6 pin to 2 sata adapters for peace of mind.

Thanks!

Seems to be a big no no to power risers off sata. My rig will consist 4x 1080 Ti's. only two are hooked up now directly to the mobo.

My risers are the version 7's that have a 6 pin PCIe on the pcb and come with 6 pin to sata adapters. Now I only plan on running the cards up to 60% power target max which is 150w. The 1080 ti's have 8+6 pin which is good for 225w. From what I gathered it seems so long as I stay below 225w the card won't draw power from the riser. Is this right?

I am using an EVGA 1300w PSU and was going to power 2 risers per PSU sata cable.
