I have just been on the Verge website. I typed in my key and pressed validate and nothing happened. If I change the first letter to my key to a 5 it says it is not a valid Verge Key. After this i retyped my original key in again and clicked validate and again nothing happens. No loading, nothing stating my key is wrong it just does nothing.
Hey mate! Don't change your keys to 5 or something similar. Let it be 6 and the 51 char key. Type the 51 char key with 6K as start chars. What do you mean by nothing happens? If we type a wrong key we receive the following message,

Quote
The text you entered does not appear to be a private Verge key.
Did you receive the message?

For example I generate a private key for reference : 6JtSC8N5t2rGNx3aCkYoAg34xeTr5iHGGS9hzg3Lk6ZWJ3EJB6L
Private key WIF compressed : QRx2C7W4YFASssxMYsDLmhJ8UcMVdoCnP81RwZKL9DYUJ7uvvgeJ

Copy this and paste in the code, and you might get access to your wallet only if the keys are right!

What i meant by nothing happens is when I type in my key and press the button to validate nothing happens..no message, nothing what so ever happens. If I change the numbers in the key and press the button to validate it says its not a valid verge key.

I used your example above to see what would happen and nothing like that comes up when I put my key in. Nothing happens.

I kind of got used to the fact that they have gone. Pretty annoying to see them with the address tho and not being able to do anything about it. Wont be writing things down in future. I made a few paper wallets at the time and thought I was being cautious. I've swept a few after this and they have all been fine. Just glad I didn't stick more and more money into that wallet, I'll invest in some hardware asap.

Despite this thanks for all your help,  very much appreciated Smiley

I think coinomi does not use standard private key format, its key consists of words but if you have a normal private key, you can use it on the official wallet.

Possible solution to your problem:

I am writing this assuming that you have created your paper wallet in vergecurrency paper wallet generator.

1. You might have encrypted your Private key using a pass phrase during the Christmas. This is a type of format which the wallets don't understand. Your private key need to be a WIF/BIP38 format to sweep the coins off.

Go to vergecurrency website which I stated below and enter your private key in Validate/Decrypt tab. Then enter the password which you entered during the creation. You will get a WIF compressed key, copy them and paste in the code.

2. You need to try out this website where you have created your wallet : http://vergecurrency.com/paper-wallet/

Here just press the Validate/Decrypt Tab. Enter your private key which starts with 6K. Once you have done press validate. Once it's done you will be presented with various formats of your private key for example WIF (compressed), Hexadecimal or Base64 mini Private key. Just copy the WIF compressed which starts Q and paste the key in the code which I gave in the above first post of mine. This might solve your problem.

3. You might be using an older version of your wallet in desktop. At sometime this might even create a problem to sweep your paper wallet. Reinstall your wallet and just try to import the private key without conversion.

4. If none of the above mentioned solutions have worked out, you might have written the key wrongly.

Use paper wallet storage only when you are holding your coins long term. They are too cumbersome to transfer your coins at a faster rate.

I have only downloaded the wallets in the last few days purely to try and get these coins back on the exchange so the wallets must be up to date?

Assuming that your private key has 51 characters, your private key starts with 5? Can you clearly say what are the starting letter of your private key? Is it 5, L or K?

My key starts with 6 then K  Undecided

I have been having a similar issue with Electroneum. I think that the paper wallet system is great for long-term holding but not so great for any situation where you might need to access your funds quickly. It is always quite a slow process to upload the wallet data.

Yeah the code above is what I wrote..

I have read read about these different key types but don't fully understand it yet.

The key I have is 51 digits long if that is of any help.

How would i convert the key?

I appreciate your time..thanks for your replies..

The private key you have entered might be right. But, as far my reading, Coinomi can sweep the funds from a wallet which has their private keys in the WIF or in Mini formats. Hence you need to convert them to wif in order to sweep your coins. I may even be wrong,

For the desktop wallet have you used this code?

Code:
importprivkey yourPrivateKeyInWalletImportFormat

Verge recently had a wallet update. You may be using an older version. you may find more information on which wallets have been upgraded on their discord channel. Also check you wallet version with the website:

Hi all

I just joined up as I have a bit of a problem. I do check in here now and then when I'm researching coins just to see what you guys have to say.

My problem is with a verge paper wallet. I cant sweep the wallet using Coinomi or the verge android app. When I put in my private key it says" Can not recognize the private key format"

Also when I use the verge desktop wallet I open the debug window and try to import the key and it says " Invalid Private Key code 5 "

I'm starting to think that I have wrote down the private key wrong tho I did check it and so did my wife.

The Address with 2500 Verge on is :
DUJGD5qP8ySne4XSezubtXQzJuTpGpcuJm

I started crypto just before christmas. Its not a massive amount of money. Verge actually dropped down in price after i bought them and was quite excited about putting them back on the exchange and selling them. This was the first time I would of sold some coins. Instead i spent 15 hours Sunday trying to sort this out with no luck.

If anyone can help me out il tip you with some verge.

If they have gone they have gone il have to take more care next time but it is annoying being able to see your coins and not do anything about them.

Thanks in advance.
