For anyone wanting to mine the ASIC and multipool resistant Vertcoin (https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/vertcoin-first-scrypt-n-first-stealth-address-privacy-without-mixer-404364) I figured I'd post some pointers.

Due to the different algorithm in Vertcoin, you will need the custom cgminer:

Windows: http://kilovolt.co.uk/Vertcoin/VertCoin-CGMinerCPU-Aleks_N.zip
Source: https://github.com/Bufius/vertminer-gpu
Vertminer build howto: http://vertcoin.org/gpu-miner-build-howto.html

Because of the different algorithm in Vertcoin, you'll get at most around 50% of the hashrate you get when mining normal scrypt coins. Of course, so will everyone else, so you'll remain equally competitive with other miners. There is a GPU settings thread at https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/the-big-vtc-vertcoin-settings-thread-416572 - once you have optimized your settings, it would be great if you could contribute your GPU type, settings and hashrate achieved in that thread.

There is more information, including links to the CPU miner and wallets at http://www.vertcoin.org

Happy mining
