Don't be mad, it will only let you know more about the rules of this forum.

even I feel good to have been warned so that I can correct mistakes

Remember, never beg because it will make other users ignore you.

Sorry, I don't mean to beg, but I'm trying to say that I haven't been able to share merit so far because I don't have it myself, and I apologize again if you think I'm begging, maybe I'm not good at writing good words or sentences to respond.

I feel wrong to be involved in discussing the problem that you consider finished, if it bothers you "I'm ready" to delete it especially after I see that the person in question is already a Jr.
Sometimes bumping into threads that are more than a month old become unnecessary if the quotes you take and the post you make are no longer relevant to the ongoing discussion. That can be considered spam and it's natural for someone to think you're just trying to fill your post quota. Don't be mad, it will only let you know more about the rules of this forum.

I will try to share it with the good ones and I have nothing to share, how do I share?
It is recommended to exercise your right to send merit on other users' quality post regardless of who made them. There is no rule stating that high ranked users are not entitled to get merit on their quality post so only low ranked users get a bigger share. However, because this merit system is not moderated, you have the right to send it to anyone, including if you want to send it only to newbie on quality post.

Create more quality post, start engaging in higher quality discussion thread and make post naturally and consistently and you will soon get the merit of allowing you to send them to other users. So far you have earned 15 merit and have submitted your 7 sMerit so you currently only have 0.5 sMerit. Get at least 1 merit and you can issue 1 sMerit. Remember, never beg because it will make other users ignore you.

Dude, I don't know why you had to exhume an issue that had been resolved and buried nearly after a month. Are you trying that hard to meet up with your post count or what? BTW, the user in quote is already a Jr Member with 74 merits. I guess you didn't bother to check their profile before now. You may want to check facts next time before posting.

It's visibility for me anyway that I got quoted by the user 😏.

I feel wrong to be involved in discussing the problem that you consider finished, if it bothers you "I'm ready" to delete it especially after I see that the person in question is already a Jr., and it will keep him from going up to member when he doesn't reach 60 posts/activity, even though he is now  already in the post number of activities, even the merit has touched the number 74 which will go up to 100 if it will go up to full member /120 activity.

I also forgot to mention in my last post that I'm glad ndalliard, the member Silver80 was referring to, is giving out merits as well as earning them.  It's important for members to not be stingy with their sMerits.

I don't know whether I should be proud or discouraged by this compliment and your defense of me.

I also forgot to mention in my last post that I'm glad ndalliard, the member Silver80 was referring to, is giving out merits as well as earning them.  It's important for members to not be stingy with their sMerits.
Thank you! I find that very important as well. I don't like meriting members who refuse to take part in the merit ecosystem. I check before meriting anyone. If you have merits to give, but you aren't doing it, I won't participate in increasing your stash. Those merits given to hoarders are thrown away even if their posts deserve it because they aren't going to be used by said members to award others.

I will try to share it with the good ones and I have nothing to share, how do I share?

sorry for the error and thanks for the input

The better place to follow these numbers is likely on this Tab, as @Rikafip pointed out (updated weekly):
Thank you as always, DdmrDdmr.  Sometimes I have to be bludgeoned over the head with a link before I figure out that it's useful and I should check it out.  That's why I'm always a chronic laggard when it comes to knowing how to search for data I'm interested in (and other things, too).

Overall sMerit awarded doubled, TXs rose nearly 63% (*), and the average merit/tx went from 1,65 to 1,99.
Now those are encouraging statistics, though as you pointed out they might peter out after the first month or so.  I'm hoping it won't drop off too much, but I think a lot of that depends on merit recipients spending their sMerits and not hoarding them.

<…> In any event, DdmrDdmr, are you planning on posting new data here as it comes out?  I'm really hoping the merit distribution went up overall this past month.
The better place to follow these numbers is likely on this Tab, as @Rikafip pointed out (updated weekly):
https://public.tableau.com/views/BitcointalkMeritDashboard/MeritSendersReceivers?:language=en-US&:display_count=n&:origin=viz_share_link
The above can also be filtered by board, allowing for insights to be drawn at a more local level.

This thread should probably wither away soon. Nevertheless, I’ve update the Google Doc, adding a first tab that compares the basic monthly ratios for each profile:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Wjr8gz-0AyyW5Che8L_kLnGUDlO6MsalQigxA-oS1ec/edit#gid=296162209

The first tab compares 05/06/21 .. 04/07/21 (prior 30 days before changes in allocation) to 05/07/21 .. 03/08/21 (post 30 days). That roughly (give or take some hours) compares the Merit Source cycle before and after the changes, in 30 day intervals.

Whenever Merit allocation change, and are reset, there is a certain will to deplete the allocation with more ease, thus the comparison is really between a normal month to a hyped month, with all that entails.

Even so:
Overall sMerit awarded doubled, TXs rose nearly 63% (*), and the average merit/tx went from 1,65 to 1,99.

My data on the list shows that I awarded more 60,12% more sMerits (I remerited after the 30 day window, so my remeriting sMerits are not accounted for here), and my average merit/tx went from 1,11 to 1,93 (which seems to still fall short to deplete my allowance with ease).

(*) Two points off from what I posted before on another posts, but this post compares 30 day windows, whilst the other compared complete natural months.

Seeing such a detailed analysis, I can't make any other actions besides putting up my thumbs.

Behind the emergence of Merit is the crystallization of the wisdom of people who have been providing nutrition for the forum. Although I have not been here soon, I often see a lot of discussions by the seniors who are active in the forum. Sometimes the debate is very intense special Wonderful.
  • DdmrDdmr is really paying, seeing so many good content posts by fillippone, seeing Ratimov sincerely helping newbies, seeing the accurate reviews of The Pharmacist, seeing MK4 friendly reminding newcomers of the precautions,
It feels like I’m here late. I should have discovered this forum earlier. Only in the past few days have I discovered that Merit is the recognition of everyone's dedication. Only this mechanism can make the forum produce excellent content and help more people improve .

I'm really hoping the merit distribution went up overall this past month.
While waiting for a more detailed overview by DdmrDdmr, one thing is obvious; merit shared during July went up by almost 100% (from 13289 to 26411) when compared with June, and is the best result since January 2020 and one of the best  since introduction of merit.

Nice analysis.

I might add two points, still relevant to me, as I am focusing on the userbase:
  • Users receiving merits has increased: merit sources did their job, finding new users to merit and spreading their stash on the merit economy, trying to start a trickle down mechanism triggering an infinite series of merits: +1
  • Users sending merits has just rebounded off the lows, still on a downtrend, a sign that the aforementioned point had little effect:-1

That's a tie, for the moment.

I don't mind that he bumped this thread
Yep, I don't mind too but for the fact that the user quoted an already resolved issue. It's visibility for me anyway that I got quoted by the user 😏.

The screenshot he posted does look odd to me, and I had to check ndalliard's merit history.  Should he not have ranked up to Jr. Member by that time, or is it simply a case of looking at that snapshot at the wrong time?
At the time, ndalliard didn't have enough activities to rank up to Jr Member (required activity for ranking up to Jr is 30 but the user had 28 then) though they had enough merit for it. It also confused me until DdmrDdmr cleared it up. It's also the way it is now with the same user. ndalliard already has more than required merit to be Member rank (10 merits) but activities are holding them down to Jr Member as activities is at 56 instead of the required 60.

What I also learned is approximately when I was made a merit source (I couldn't remember the month before looking at those graphs), which was Oct/Nov 2019.  Previously I thought it was in September that Theymos had tapped a bunch of new sources.  Anyway, it's great to see the circulating merits increase so much for the past month.  I certainly did my best to use up my allotment, though I fell short.
If you wanna take a look into very  detailed overview of your merit activity, you might wanna check this Merit Dashboard tab. You can find there bunch of interesting stuff like merit shared per months, where you shared that merit, to which ranks etc.

Now I'm wondering why merit circulation had declined from Jan. 2020 in the first place.  It could be that some merit sources have become inactive, I guess, but that's probably not a full explanation.  Any ideas?
Imho, its the combination of several big merit sources going AWOL and decreased forum activity. There was a topic that tracked bigger merit sources that were inactive for longer period of time, and when you add the ones with smaller allocation, no wonder that eventually merit shared hit the rock bottom in June. Luckily, theymos finally reacted so all good, at least for now.

I don't mind that he bumped this thread, since I figured it was going to get updated eventually as new data came in (and hopefully that'll still be the case, since I'm interested in seeing the next month's merit-increase impact).  But for the question he posed, this isn't the thread to do it in.

The screenshot he posted does look odd to me, and I had to check ndalliard's merit history.  Should he not have ranked up to Jr. Member by that time, or is it simply a case of looking at that snapshot at the wrong time?  In other words, I think it's possible ndalliard earned enough activity before he earned the required merit to go from Newbie to Jr. Member....but I'm not sure.

In any event, DdmrDdmr, are you planning on posting new data here as it comes out?  I'm really hoping the merit distribution went up overall this past month.

the requirement to become a jr.member - member- etc is not seen from the post but to the activities per 14 days that have been determined, for example on 28/7 to 11/8 he can get 14 activities with 14 posts without deletion if he has exceeded 14 posts then  activity does not increase

It’s not something that has been officially stated in a post from @theymos, but Merit Sources were PMd about their new quota (which was also topped-up), and the Merit Stats display a value of 111 Merit Sources (prior was 97) and 34139 sMerits per 30 days (before it was 21171). This took place on July the 5th (or at least it’s when all the buzz started).

You can read from this message onwards on the matter:

Can you please let me know what has changed in the Merit source allocations ? I am not aware of the change.

If you can give me the official link describing the change. Has the merit sources increased too or only the allocation?

I believe that there are a couple of Merit Sources that is above that range, but most are well below. The recently displayed 1K sMerit upgrade may nevertheless be what 10-15 Merits Sources now have (just a guess), and there is a fair share of variance between allowances.

Bear in mind that the 34139 sMerits per 30 days for the 111 Merit Sources averages 308 sMerits per capita. Taking into consideration that 1K is a figure that some now have, nearing the top of the range, there is bound to be a fair share of variance, with many well below that 1K figure, and a fair share below the average too.

Okay, thanks. So looks like the allocation amount differs per user.

That sounds fantastic to me, since I was fortunate enough to get 1000 sMerits airdropped to me by Theymos.  It wasn't quite at the beginning of the month, but I'm going to attempt to give them all away by the start of August.  We'll see how that turns out--and I was considering increasing my average number of merits given per post.  Right now I usually hand out 2-3, but that's become a habit due to me chronically running short.  I think with 1000 sMerits to play with each month, I could probably up that to 4 or 5.
1000 sMerits allocation every month is big.

The merit stat center for Most generous merit senders, all time -- shows you only sent 5873 sMerits.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=topsendat

Now you have about 25% of all what you've sent so far. It's a big increase and challenge for you.

Doh!  Yes, if I could take you up on that particular brew I would.  Maybe we'd have a nice crypto discussion over it, too.

For those that received an increased sMerit allocation, they also received their entire monthly allowance at the time of the increase. It is possible that some sources had zero or close to zero source sMerit prior to the increase.

Nicely written, I did miss reading your analysis as I wasn't that frequently on the boards you post them especially meta. I was surprised to get a notification especially as I saw the title of your post. Just to clear the air, I didn't receive any increase as other sources did. I didn't request for one either so I wasn't surprised but that didn't mean I don't get short on them.

Guess I enter your radar as a result of getting some of my monthly refill during last couple of days and also as a result of earning some smerits myself from this post resulting in me been very active with my smerits of recent.

For those that received an increased sMerit allocation, they also received their entire monthly allowance at the time of the increase. It is possible that some sources had zero or close to zero source sMerit prior to the increase. This means someone who had their sMerit allocation increased to 1000/month, would have received an additional 1000 sMerit to give out immediately

This is somewhat similar to what happened when the merit system was introduced (although on a smaller scale).

Great analysis as usual.
Agree 100%, and I thank DdmrDdmr for the data--I was very curious as to how Theymos's addition of merit sources and his increase of sMerits to existing sources would play out, but I didn't expect any analysis so soon.  Happy to see most sources (or at least the ones listed in the OP) have increased their merit distribution.  And look at Ratimov!  That's an impressive jump in his generosity.

sMerit has so far gone up 45,23% with regards to the prior week, increasing the average merit/tx from 1,69 to 2,14, but without yet seeing a significant amount of newly merited profiles (93 so far this week).
That bolded part is kind of surprising to me, but perhaps it shouldn't.  The members who tend to earn merits are consistent, and I guess it's less common for someone to receive their first merit, although that probably means there haven't been that many Newbie members being merited this week.  Ah well, that'll probably change--and if it doesn't, I don't think it reflects badly on merit sources.  Some of us try to merit Newbies whenever we can, but more often than not they just don't make the grade.

Thanks again for the excellent data crunching, DdmrDdmr.

Besides, newly replenished sMerit allowances tend to create an atmosphere of excitement, and that translated to a heavy kick-start.

Great analysis as usual.
You are right to the point when you mention this excitement. As you know, I agree on this, and I think this is the exact reason why you saw me sprinting so quick out of the blocks.

Also agree that monitoring in the long run is the important thing, and your tool of course will be of great help doing so.

Glad you noticed I was also able to help a few newbies. I think this was part of the plan by @theymos.

Nevertheless, I though it interesting to take a sneak peek at how the first four days have rendered, in comparison to the prior week, simply to satisfy my curiosity, and knowing full well that what matters is the trend after a few months.

Being so, what I’ve done is compare everbody’s merit awarding summarized ratios for last week (28/06/2021 00:00:00 to 04/07/2021 23:59:59 UTC) to this current partial week (05/07/2021 00:00:00 to '09/07/2021 02:51:09 UTC – date of merit.txt release). That makes it a deliberate uneven comparison, as I wanted to see how this week’s newly topped sMerit allocations were being used, and expected the overall current partial week to surpass the prior complete week.

In global terms, the above is as I expected:
Code:
Week Nº	From	          Until	       nMerit	nTx	nFrom	nFromNew % FromNew	nTo	nToNew	% ToNew	Avg. Merit/Tx	Avg. Merit /nTo	nMeritVar
181 05/07/2021 11/07/2021 4.521 2.109 287 7        2,44% 699 93 13,30% 2,14         6,47        45,23%
180 28/06/2021 04/07/2021 3.113 1.847 388 19        4,90% 633 79 12,48% 1,69         4,92       -11,79%
sMerit has so far gone up 45,23% with regards to the prior week, increasing the average merit/tx from 1,69 to 2,14, but without yet seeing a significant amount of newly merited profiles (93 so far this week). This latter information will increase the remaining part of the week, but a global sMerit increase does not necessarily imply a massive broadness of newly people sMerited. In any case, I’d expect that the increase will broaden the range further, as recipients have more to further award other people down the chain.

Note that, as we know, meriting is for the most based on content, so an increase in global available sMerit does not necessarily translate to an increase in new merited profiles.

I’ve compared the number of awarded sMerits, number of TX and number of newly merited people (never merited before by anyone) for the prior week against the current week, and added an increase ratio to compare this week’s awarded sMerits vs last weeks. I've also included the average sMerit/TX ratio to compare.

For example, @fillippone has increased his distribution over 4,5 fold, more than doubled his sMerit TXs, and reached out to 5 profiles never merited before by anybody. His average sMerit/TX has more than doubled.
I’ve increased my awarding habits by 68%, but made less TXs so far, nearly doubling my sMerit/TX ratio.

We could create a bunch more ratios, but as I mentioned, this is just to get a brief idea of what is going on, so I won’t go into it. Besides, newly replenished sMerit allowances tend to create an atmosphere of excitement, and that translated to a heavy kick-start. The important thing to monitor is how it translates over time, which is easier to follow on the Merit Dashboard in tabs such as this one:
