how is that scamming?
You're trying to sell private keys.

well i mean you're really taking me a bit out of context there but ok. yeah it is selling a private key but i wouldn't think anyone would buy a vanity bitcoin address from someone that also knows the private key and actually attempt to ever use it. its only for entertainment purposes only. somehow i feel that this argument with you is a losing battle though. Sad

Instructions
I can just create an address, and send you the private key. This means you have to trust me, my computer, my cat, both our email clients, and by definition it can no longer be used for cold storage. So let's not. Instead, use split key:
Step 1: Goto https://www.bitaddress.org/ move your mouse/type in the field until it shows 100% and wait a second.
Step 1.5: Optional but highly recommended. Download the page, verify the download and run it locally*.
Step 2: Click Vanity Wallet click the Generate button next to Generate your "Step1 Key Pair"
Step 3: Reply to this thread with your public key and the prefix for your address. Save the private key somewhere safe. You will need it later when I generated your partial private key. Also, let me know if your preferred prefix is case sensitive, or any case is okay (the latter is much faster)
Step 4: Once you received your partial private key, go back to bitaddress.org and click on Vanity Wallet.
Step 5: Go to step 2 Calculate your vanity wallet. In the first field put the private key you saved and in the second field put the partial private key I gave you. Click Add and Calculate Vanity Wallet
Step 6: Copy the Vanity Private Key (WIF) and import it into your preferred wallet.
Credits to shorena for most of these instructions!
If something doesn't work as expected, have a look at this example.

i wasn't aware of that but it doesn't fit my operating mode anyway though. for generating these "vanity" addresses. i don't cater to what someone wants. i take what i get. kind of like someone mining for gold out of the ground. they don't get to pick and choose what size nugget they want. they take what they can get.

i'll lock down this thread and do that instead since apparently people don't buy vanity addresses like this. and they get scolded pretty hard for trying. Lips sealed

Quote
It's not the (ridiculous) price that makes this look scammy.

i woulda probably taken $50 for the kobe address but it's not something that comes along everyday. you wanna hold on to something like that and use it yourself if not. thanks for your guidance. i'll leave the thread open for a few days if you wanna get the last word in.

I thought you were a more or less serious user. Now you're just trolling, and possibly trying to scam a naive user. Not cool.

The kobe bryant address was serious. But I can see that no one would want to buy it. No problem. i'm not trying to make money off a naive user. but if someone wants one of these addresses, they can do so.

just thought i would post some of my "creations" here and let others pipe in what they thought. how is that scamming? i'm letting people have their say about what they think each address is really worth. i set my prices however I choose, is that ok?

Hell my guess is you are using an online one not even your own airgapped system…

your guess would be wrong. but nice try.

what do you think about this one, since i got your attention:

17UPf74Jj61aSZntrHWaVJH7bmNtkYtFkD

If you drink 7up you might be FkD. Coke is better.

i'll let this one go for 0.35 btc but it's only for 24 hours then it goes up to 0.5. just the way economics works... Smiley

Yours doesnt have his first name either. Yes you have a K but also have it jammed in the middle of the last name - makes it look more random than an actual attempt - doing 1KBryant would have been better - I actually thought it was random on yours

Selling for more than a few bucks is a rip off - you put zero effort, type a few chars and watch tv or sleep or whatever while it works

You took a freak accident and expect to get rich from that bullshit.

No one should trust keys made by anyone unless they are well known and the person can be trusted - even then it is a risk.

Your usmc has 12GoUSMC not PT

But even if it did - it still isnt hard to generate.

No key generation is worth more than a few bucks let alone .5 btc

Gtfo with that bullshit - prolly sweep their funds as well if they ever use it.

Hell my guess is you are using an online one not even your own airgapped system…

Half a BTC? I can generate that for 20 USD.

good for u then.

Quote
And i'm willing to generate that for free. Here's the private key/address.

Code:
p2pkh:L1UiDswRWaE3EDQG5W9Vb37ZHiaSXZSuweGxHj68HVAZDVV8N1B5
1GoUSMc6qN5c7r7Pm5pVWGdto2Z19MfbP9

mine came first.

Quote
Both of these pre-fixes are easy to generate.
it's not just about the "pre-fixes"...

Quote
I set two instances to run - one for each prefix - 1BRYANT and 1GoUSMC

they ran for 4 hours and I got 5 of the 1BRYANT and 2 of the 1GoUSMC addresses

1BRYANTpQST5NyXCebPX7bBb9uF8iScGNT
1BRYANTVCuyyJ9DJBd6TL4J3LG6F7mK4wX
1BRYANTS5Gvs3iGviMfY8oigcNXgGEwuAt
1BRYANT92yAp2ZExCweeD6NSCzdafs6kLd
1BRYANT1Sn3EmPgRzrzPFpiansGPdKPshk
pretty worthless though since they don't contain Kobe's first name well the last one has a k at the very end but I don't think it's as good as mine. keep trying tho. you just need a few more characters right there in front.

If you find people willing to pay .5 btc that's insane.
yeah it is. but that's how it is. Cheesy

Quote
I charge $5 to generate vanity addresses up to 7 characters - after that it is a bit more expensive as it takes quite a bit longer. But no where near .5 btc
then this thread can maybe help you get some new customer because i'm not selling mine that cheap.

but your usmc vanity addresses aren't as good as mine. mine has the letters PT in it for "physical training" and the word "mud" in it. marines get dirty you know.

I haven't played around with Vanitygen for a very long time but IIRC, capital letters had/have a lower difficulty than lowercase letters and I have a feeling you just went with the case-insensitive prefix search and got lucky with the result.
well not exactly, but nice guess.

Besides the fact that yes you can generate an address like that, but in the case that someone can't why would they want the private keys to this address.  It can never be used, what's the point?

No disrespect but no one is going to buy a personal vanity address that is based on some private individuals name or something. but a public celebrity that's a different story maybe. just my opinion.

i'm not seriously thinking anyone here in this forum would buy it but i might like to sell it to someone someday somehow. along with some others I seem to be finding lately. there is a us marine corp one...anyone interest in that one? Grin

Ask Kobe Bryant family first, maybe they are willing to offer you millions of dollar worth of Bitcoin for it  :/

the "kobe bryant" bitcoin address. how much u guys think it's worth? maybe $10? keep in mind, i know its private key so if you buy it, then that makes 2 of us. but i'll delete my copy, pinky swear.
How much time you needed to create this non-special bitcoin address?
I would never guess this is related with Kobe Bryant in any way, and sorry but I wouldn't pay a single sat for that.
Some time ago I generated few vanity addresses in memory of member Lauda, it only took few minutes, and it was totally free.

It's probably worth somewhere between $0 and a red tag.
I wouldn't red tag him for this, just let him sell his creation Smiley

If you like this address, I suggest you use it for yourself.  It's literally worthless to anyone else.

I could find 1KoBEBRYAN... easily enough, the last T might be a bit tricky and take some time.  Maybe a few months.  Still, the address being offered is dog water.  Nobody would pay for that and it takes some creative thinking to ever come to the conclusion that it's at all related to Kobe Bryant.  Then you add in the fact that it's being offered by someone with the lack of a long trust history and you have all the makings for a worthless address.

OP - If you like this address, I suggest you use it for yourself.  It's literally worthless to anyone else.
