I think it would be much convenient to check your balance if you have the Bitcoin address. Also, is there any reason why you refuse to import the private key to your wallet? :O
yes that better, view btc balance from bitcoin address is better and low risk,at least better than tyiping private key on online or offline services, its always have a risk,i dont want lost any bitcoin.

Have you lost the bitcoin address? is that why?  i think you can go to bitaddress.org and enter your privkey offline and it will tell you the public address
I will also suggest you to download offline version of bitaddress form here https://github.com/pointbiz/bitaddress.org
and than open it in offline computer and enter your private key in wallet details tab and enter private key. You should see your bitcoin address in that page.

EDIT: I think the bitcoin address compressed is the bitcoin address you looking for which will be displayed after you enter private key and click view in offline mode also. I have tried doing above step just now and successed to get my address.

do not type in your private key into any online servive purely to convert it to a public key to check the balance..

there are many websites that you can download the converter and use OFFLINE that will tell you the public key
which can then be used to check balances

it is not really the case,it's just for a small busnesse that i want to start, I know I can do it on the blockchaine.info Wallet with the sweep option but with this new wallet we can only import the private key.
