I am just curious when the thread is so long some of the reply i see is the answer to the first post or the start of the thread. I am just curious of how users here view thread. How they reply to thread. Did they read the first post only? Or they read the whole thread? At some of my post I observe that many reply on my thread only reply at the first post. I thing they did not read the other reply that is why the answers or the reply on the thread are somewhat redundant. My question is this, How do you read thread do you read the first post or the start of the thread only, or do you read all before you make your reply?

It is pretty difficult to read the whole posts when a thread is too long. I normally read few posts or the first page of the thread before replying. There are times I don't read replies at all especially when I do not want member's views to influence my thoughts/replies. This usually happens when I am grounded in the subject of discussions.

Basically people running to make posts to get rewards from their campaigns so they don't even replies or in first posts, many of them will answer from the title itself. If you see irrelavant replies then you should report them to moderator so these posts will be deleted, you can also do that by creating self moderated thread.

It is advisable to read the main post and replies first. Well actually, that's how it should be imo.

2 scenarios though:

1st example : The topic is a question that needs a specific answer, when the answer is already given, there's no need to repeat it, so don't reply if you will be saying the same thing. The thread starter MUST lock the topic too once he got the answer he's looking for.

2nd example : The topic is opinion based, meaning there's no right or wrong answer. It's okay to discuss with other members or just reply in the OP. Having the same opinion with other members is okay (plagiarizing any answer is a different story).

Always check the date of the main post too. Sometimes people are replying to a thread (mostly an opinion based threads) that are inactive for years. Many of them are to spam their sigs, just report if that's the case.
