I think your Ram and SSD is not overkill at all for 8x1080 ti cards. In fact it is a good configuration as Windows updates especially in Windows 10 cannot really be disabled if you don't do it first thing after you install it.The paging file the more the better. The Ram the more the better.Always when you build a mining rig build it with a little more than the min spec requirements and you will have a great going performance.

On my 6 card 1080ti rig I had to up my vm to around 55gb to stop getting memory errors running neoscrypt with NiceHash

how did you increase your VM?

I thought I was going a little over board with the 256gb SSDs. They were only $100 so I'll try a smaller one to save some cash. I only have 8gb ram sticks. I read somewhere 1-2gb per card was sufficient.

For now I'll only be using nice hash but I want to go for stability and performance

That is a good tip on the virtual memory - thank you guys

Hi newbie here

I am wondering what the recommended paging file size should be - min/max. Is it 2x the ram?

Asus prime z270-p
16gb ram corsair cl14
windows 10
1080ti x 8
256gb ssd

Is my 2 x 8gb ram over kill?

Is the ssd sized appropriately? I want to go for stability and performance. I see people using 32gb usb sticks though...

Depends on what you are mining, but worst case is to make the pagefile the same size as the sum of your GPU VRAM; 1080 Ti has 11GB so 88GB.

Windows 10 definitely doesn't need 16GB of DRAM to run well, but having it will help avoid pagefile use on those algos that don't max out VRAM.

I think that even 4 GB would be enough to run this setup. You could also get rid of your SSD and use a bootable pendrive but then you would have to use Linux because Windows doesn't work well on cheap and slow USB devices. As far as I remember, 16 GB page file should be enough. You don't even need 256 GB SSD. Aren't there any 64 GB SSD available? Windows takes only about 20 GB of space.
